Amazing. I am a project manager by trade, and I demand very high standards of professionalism, follow-up, communication, punctuality and follow-through. Dave Hope at HRH Construction met every single criteria I would have for an excellent project manager. Specifically, Dave did the following: - Showed up at 8am every single weekday. When he said the job would take 3 weeks, he meant he would work every single day until it was done. - Dave's staff was friendly, professional, and helpful. They even wore a uniform T-shirt with the company name (unusual for non-enterprise sized companies) - I received a text message from Dave, unprompted, every night with an update of what is done, what is coming, any changes we may foresee and opportunity to make decisions in advance. In other words, I did not have to guess about progress and status, and I did not have to chase after him to give it to me or to show up the next day. - Dave was also very upfront about any unforeseen items that may hike the price. We were always well educated and informed about what could come up in order to avoid surprises. We credit Dave's incredible project management and communication skills for keeping us informed and prepared for what may come. - In terms of budget, the amount was agreed upon in advance and any increases were communicated and approved by a signed change order well in advance. Dave kept a milestone schedule and we would submit payment after each milestone was met. This created an environment of trust: he and his team do the work, we pay him for work done. Just as it should be. - Dave performs a background check (including a drug test) on all the contractors he employs, guaranteeing you will not have a bad experience. - At one point Dave sent in a contractor to do the wall work. The contractor did an excellent job, but happened to show up unannounced (to us or Dave) on a Saturday morning. We were taken aback, but did not mind since work was getting done. We notified Dave of the unannounced arrival, and, after apologizing for the lack of heads-up, he immediately sent his foreman, who waited around for 2 hours on a Saturday of a long weekend for the contractors to finish. Once the contractors were gone, the foreman spent the next hour cleaning up the entire worksite (living room, dining room and hallway) so that there was no plaster, dirt, dust, or work materials around. We credit Dave for knowing who works for him so well that he was prepared to come back and clean up after them. We were very impressed. In short, Dave and his team were a delight to work with. Dave earned our trust very quickly and I was able to let my guard down -- I'm not known for being easy to please, but Dave sure made it look like a breeze. Dave was on top of it. We were impressed, delighted, and would certainly hire him again and again for any job we have around the house. It's a great feeling to have found someone so knowledgeable and professional to trust your home matters to.

This was a very large project  and complex requiring many heavy timbers, hydraulic jacks, and some real innovative solutions to structural problems. It went extremely well. The jacked up the roof, section by section, removed the old timbers as needed and installed all new.

It took many weeks and in the end we were both very impressed and quite satisfied with the result.

Dave has excellent follow through, selection and coordination of all aspects of subcontracting. He was here when he promised and when we hit a snag due to unanticipated structural problems, he accommodated us into his schedule as soon as possible to finish the job.  He was always punctual and kept the inevitable chaos of a remodel with the homeowner inhabiting the dwelling to a minimum. He completed the job in a timely way and as quickly as possible. We never felt neglected or abandoned, but were sure we were in good hands. He negotiated with our insurance agent as the original issues were due to ice damage and he advocated on our behalf for that settlement.  He and his assistant did some very fine reconstructive work on our rotted front entryway, piecing together the antique aspects we could salvage with new materials and it looked great! After the reconstruction of our house, it was left in excellent condition. He was receptive to client input and always respectful of our desires. We would not want to use anyone else for any future projects.

The whole process was stress-free once underway.  The job was completed while I was away on a long 5 week vacation.  Kept up to date with progress by text if urgent, email, via video link (FaceTime) so was able to 'walk' around my house and see progress as well as a couple of unforeseen items that needed to be addressed. Dave worked tirelessly to keep the project on time, even with the weather having different idea. Dave and the sub-contractors were respectful of my neighbors and kept disruption in the street to a minimum.

Excellent contractors - I'd hire them again in an instant. I contracted with HRH Construction to replace two exterior doors and to build me a customized wooden awning that matched the modern design of my house. Dave Hope not only came in under budget on all projects, but was also more responsive than any of the other three contractors I approached. The job was done quickly and exceeded my expectations - both doors were perfectly installed and the custom-sized bulkhead door was effectively waterproofed using materials and techniques I would never have heard of. The awning, however, was their crowning achievement! Made from red cedar and based on a design I saw in a home magazine, Dave put the thing up in record time and it looks fantastic. It's incredibly solid and it fits the house like it was always a part of it. All through the process Dave was reliable, responsive, polite, honest and extremely helpful. I can't recommend HRH highly enough.

Dave showed up on time as promised every day and every evening or the next morning he would update me on where they were in the project and what to expect the next day.  It was a very good experience.  Dave promised me the kitchen and family room would be done in time for me to host Thanksgiving at my house and he delivered.

HRH construction was assigned to us through the MassSaves energy program, to carry out the work suggested by the energy-efficiency auditing company (Conservation Services Group - the State's auditor contracted for this program). HRH construction was timely in contacting us for setting up an appointment, arriving on the job, and completing the work. As they worked, they encountered numerous items that the auditing company had missed, and were able to contact the appropriate parties to get cost estimates and approval for completing the additional work. Due to the extra items they encountered, the work took longer than they had anticipated, but they stayed through the early evening until the work was done. The owner even called his daughter to purchase and bring him a part required to complete one of the unanticipated projects. We were very impressed! We were sad to learn that, due to past improprieties by previous contractors for the MassSaves work, the contractor who completes the MassSaves work for you cannot work with you again on any other project for a full year. We would have certainly enjoyed working with these folks on our many other home-improvement projects.

HRH was the contractor assigned to us under the NStar rebate program and we could not have been happier with their work.  They were very helpful in accommodating the urgency of our situation into their schedule.  They were extremely courteous, professional and cleaned up everything after they were done. I would not hesitate to use this company again.

I needed to do renovation work that included tearing out a wall shared between a bedroom and a bathroom, building a space that could hold a heater, and redoing portions of my bathroom including the shower. HRH did great work start to finish--always prompt and clean with a willingness to explain the process. The work itself is carefully done with an eye for detail. (In fact, they were more worried about the door trim than I was.) I'd use them again and recommend them to anyone.
