Amazing. I am a project manager by trade, and I demand very high standards of professionalism, follow-up, communication, punctuality and follow-through. Dave Hope at HRH Construction met every single criteria I would have for an excellent project manager. Specifically, Dave did the following: - Showed up at 8am every single weekday. When he said the job would take 3 weeks, he meant he would work every single day until it was done. - Dave's staff was friendly, professional, and helpful. They even wore a uniform T-shirt with the company name (unusual for non-enterprise sized companies) - I received a text message from Dave, unprompted, every night with an update of what is done, what is coming, any changes we may foresee and opportunity to make decisions in advance. In other words, I did not have to guess about progress and status, and I did not have to chase after him to give it to me or to show up the next day. - Dave was also very upfront about any unforeseen items that may hike the price. We were always well educated and informed about what could come up in order to avoid surprises. We credit Dave's incredible project management and communication skills for keeping us informed and prepared for what may come. - In terms of budget, the amount was agreed upon in advance and any increases were communicated and approved by a signed change order well in advance. Dave kept a milestone schedule and we would submit payment after each milestone was met. This created an environment of trust: he and his team do the work, we pay him for work done. Just as it should be. - Dave performs a background check (including a drug test) on all the contractors he employs, guaranteeing you will not have a bad experience. - At one point Dave sent in a contractor to do the wall work. The contractor did an excellent job, but happened to show up unannounced (to us or Dave) on a Saturday morning. We were taken aback, but did not mind since work was getting done. We notified Dave of the unannounced arrival, and, after apologizing for the lack of heads-up, he immediately sent his foreman, who waited around for 2 hours on a Saturday of a long weekend for the contractors to finish. Once the contractors were gone, the foreman spent the next hour cleaning up the entire worksite (living room, dining room and hallway) so that there was no plaster, dirt, dust, or work materials around. We credit Dave for knowing who works for him so well that he was prepared to come back and clean up after them. We were very impressed. In short, Dave and his team were a delight to work with. Dave earned our trust very quickly and I was able to let my guard down -- I'm not known for being easy to please, but Dave sure made it look like a breeze. Dave was on top of it. We were impressed, delighted, and would certainly hire him again and again for any job we have around the house. It's a great feeling to have found someone so knowledgeable and professional to trust your home matters to.
Description of Work: Structural work to a Victorian house built in 1900. New beams were put into the first floor ceiling to support the structures of the house, with lally columns and framed walls in the basement to support in all the right places. HRH brought in a structural engineer to make sure decisions were based on professional review of the structures of the house. In addition, the living room was gutted and new insulation, electrical and walls were put in place. Finally, a built-in bookcase was added to the same room. New light fixtures put in 5 different areas, and mount TV up on wall. Ethernet wire passed through from basement to TV and upper floors.

Dave explained the sun porch product that he would install, all of the variables and customize-able features. He patiently answered our questions about the demolition and construction process, as well as gave us an overview of the current building codes that would impact certain decisions. He worked out a range of pricing on options for us to consider. We had previously met with a few other contractors about this project. We very much enjoyed talking with Dave. We were impressed with the detailed information he gave us and the pricing he worked out. We felt it would be good to work with Dave and his firm. Unfortunately, we had an unexpected expense come up that have caused us to put the project on hold, at least for this year.
Description of Work: We met with Dave Hope twice recently to discuss a sunroom addition to our house. I had seen photos of his company's work online which all looked elegant, thoughtfully crafted and in line with what we were hoping to achieve in our home. Despite a busy schedule, and the fact that it was the holiday season, Dave came to us to see our house and review options for the addition.

This was a very large project and complex requiring many heavy timbers, hydraulic jacks, and some real innovative solutions to structural problems. It went extremely well. The jacked up the roof, section by section, removed the old timbers as needed and installed all new. It took many weeks and in the end we were both very impressed and quite satisfied with the result.
Description of Work: We have an antique house, over 200 years old, whose roof structure was failing. HRH jacked up and rebuilt the entire roof structure from the inside out, worked with the insulators, plumbers and electricians, then completely finished it into a studio and storage room.

Dave has excellent follow through, selection and coordination of all aspects of subcontracting. He was here when he promised and when we hit a snag due to unanticipated structural problems, he accommodated us into his schedule as soon as possible to finish the job. He was always punctual and kept the inevitable chaos of a remodel with the homeowner inhabiting the dwelling to a minimum. He completed the job in a timely way and as quickly as possible. We never felt neglected or abandoned, but were sure we were in good hands. He negotiated with our insurance agent as the original issues were due to ice damage and he advocated on our behalf for that settlement. He and his assistant did some very fine reconstructive work on our rotted front entryway, piecing together the antique aspects we could salvage with new materials and it looked great! After the reconstruction of our house, it was left in excellent condition. He was receptive to client input and always respectful of our desires. We would not want to use anyone else for any future projects.
Description of Work: Consulted with structural engineer and reframed our living room, kitchen and attic Weather shielded exterior of structure and resided those areas of our house Reinstalled Trex on two decking areas Re roofed those areas and replastered the walls and replaced faux beams Rebuilt our front door and entryway and threshold

Dave Hope, was a great advisor through the whole process. Kept both projects on schedule and on budget.
Description of Work: Over the last two years HRH Construction have helped and advised me on improvements to my property, both planned upgrades and repairs due to ice dam damage and a water leak. HRH have installed in 2015 a new water heater, central air and boiler. Removed windows, gas fireplace. Repaired walls and painted. Then in 2016 repaired roof and replaced shingles, added spray foam insulation to limited the possibility of ice dams in the future. Replaced complete kitchen (walls, flooring and cabinets) due to water leak.

The whole process was stress-free once underway. The job was completed while I was away on a long 5 week vacation. Kept up to date with progress by text if urgent, email, via video link (FaceTime) so was able to 'walk' around my house and see progress as well as a couple of unforeseen items that needed to be addressed. Dave worked tirelessly to keep the project on time, even with the weather having different idea. Dave and the sub-contractors were respectful of my neighbors and kept disruption in the street to a minimum.
Description of Work: Move and upgrade electrical panel. Move and replace boiler and HW tank with high efficiency units, install SpacePak system with heat exchanger. Remove unwanted gas fireplace from master bedroom. Close up two window openings in family room, install customer supplied in wall speaker cables, relocate cable and power outlets so the TV location could be stitched to a different wall.

I contracted with HRH for Mass Save insulating work. unfortunately, when they came out to do the install, my furnace failed the combustion test. after i had the furnace cleaned, and was assured that it passed the test, Dave made a second trip out to assess., all without charge to me, and without him getting visibly frustrated.

Excellent contractors - I'd hire them again in an instant. I contracted with HRH Construction to replace two exterior doors and to build me a customized wooden awning that matched the modern design of my house. Dave Hope not only came in under budget on all projects, but was also more responsive than any of the other three contractors I approached. The job was done quickly and exceeded my expectations - both doors were perfectly installed and the custom-sized bulkhead door was effectively waterproofed using materials and techniques I would never have heard of. The awning, however, was their crowning achievement! Made from red cedar and based on a design I saw in a home magazine, Dave put the thing up in record time and it looks fantastic. It's incredibly solid and it fits the house like it was always a part of it. All through the process Dave was reliable, responsive, polite, honest and extremely helpful. I can't recommend HRH highly enough. Mark
Description of Work: I contracted with HRH Construction to replace two exterior doors and to build me a customized wooden awning that matched the modern design of my house. One door was a standard exterior screen door, but the other was a bulkhead door that was rotting out due to being constantly under a snow drift all winter. This door was a non-standard size and needed to be replaced (along with its frame) with something that would be rust and rot proof. The awning was a construction project from scratch based on a design I found in a home magazine.

Dave showed up on time as promised every day and every evening or the next morning he would update me on where they were in the project and what to expect the next day. It was a very good experience. Dave promised me the kitchen and family room would be done in time for me to host Thanksgiving at my house and he delivered.
Description of Work: I did a gut rehab of my kitchen and family room. I showed Dave a picture of a fireplace mantle and surround that I hoped he could replicate--which he did perfectly. I still get complements from people who see my house for the first time. A couple of years after my kitchen and family room rehab I had Dave back to renovate my dining room. He raised and created a tray ceiling and remodeled a brick fireplace. Again, I showed him a picture of what I wanted and he did a terrific job. He also build a small linen closet based on my own drawing.

Response from HRH Construction Inc
This member is correct, we have not provided him with a free estimate. We have however, undertaken work on his behalf at no expense to him. This member contacted us to obtain a free proposal to build an addition to his home. During the site visit I discovered potential set back and wetland issues. At no expense to the homeowner I met with the planning department and conservation department of the town he lives in and found that the proposed addition would be extremely close to the wetland boundary. I informed the homeowner of this fact and recommended that he have a complete survey performed to confirm the exact location of the wetland boundary in relation to his home before continuing with plans to expand. This would be required as part of the permitting process so doing it now and adjusting the addition design accordingly, if required, simply makes sense. Until now we have had no further communication with the homeowner. While I wish this member all the best with his addition some consideration for the time and effort made on his behalf at our own expense would have been nice and if there was some confusion on his part as to what stage in the process we were at, a simple phone call could have cleared things up rather than an unpleasant and unfair rating for a service that was being provided to him for free and was on hold awaiting more information from him. Description of Work: Dave and his crew came and blew-in insulation in our 1930s Colonial in Marblehead through the MassSAVE program. They did a great job - Dave was a great communicator via telephone and also in person. He kept me updated on every aspect of the project and they were very professional. One of my storm windows was damaged by the crew and they quickly and efficiently replaced the glass and put it back in the window. My only wish is that he worked closer to Marblehead as I would have him do more work on my house. I definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a great contractor.

HRH construction was assigned to us through the MassSaves energy program, to carry out the work suggested by the energy-efficiency auditing company (Conservation Services Group - the State's auditor contracted for this program). HRH construction was timely in contacting us for setting up an appointment, arriving on the job, and completing the work. As they worked, they encountered numerous items that the auditing company had missed, and were able to contact the appropriate parties to get cost estimates and approval for completing the additional work. Due to the extra items they encountered, the work took longer than they had anticipated, but they stayed through the early evening until the work was done. The owner even called his daughter to purchase and bring him a part required to complete one of the unanticipated projects. We were very impressed! We were sad to learn that, due to past improprieties by previous contractors for the MassSaves work, the contractor who completes the MassSaves work for you cannot work with you again on any other project for a full year. We would have certainly enjoyed working with these folks on our many other home-improvement projects.
Description of Work: Supplementary insulation blown in (approx 10" across the entire house), connecting three bathroom air vents to the exterior of the house, foam-sealing of all cracks and openings, testing of water heater & boiler, advice on future use of the MassSaves program.

HRH was the contractor assigned to us under the NStar rebate program and we could not have been happier with their work. They were very helpful in accommodating the urgency of our situation into their schedule. They were extremely courteous, professional and cleaned up everything after they were done. I would not hesitate to use this company again.

I needed to do renovation work that included tearing out a wall shared between a bedroom and a bathroom, building a space that could hold a heater, and redoing portions of my bathroom including the shower. HRH did great work start to finish--always prompt and clean with a willingness to explain the process. The work itself is carefully done with an eye for detail. (In fact, they were more worried about the door trim than I was.) I'd use them again and recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: HRH redid a shower, rebuilt a door, and built a closet for my heater.
