"Problem was rain water penetrating the foundation cement blocks and being forced up to wet the subfloor. Foundation blocks also had cracked in one location. Solution was to apply plastic and sealant to the outside foundation wall and to pipe water away. Also Ever-Dry workers installed sump pumps and perforated pipe around the inside foundation wall (in crawl space), drilled the blocks on the inside to allow any water in the blocks to escape to the sump pumps. The foundation vents were sealed, a dehumidifying system was installed, and heavy vinyl was installed over the floor. The workers were very punctual and courteous. The only improvement would have been if they had done a little better job of removing the building rubble that was uncovered during the foundation trenching."

"I hired Smart Crawl for a basement waterproofing project. The good thing was that they honored a quote from over 12 months prior conditional on me providing my own project financing. This was really great of them. They also paid for the plumbing services required (see below). The negatives: 1. they kept delaying the start of the project due to other projects taking longer than they expected. This conflicted with vacation schedules, family events at our house, and other plans. We had to push the project back almost two months as a result. The dispatcher communicated that the project would take approximately two days to complete. I believe it took 6 days of actual work. 2. The teams would often show up at 10:30 am and leave by 3:00 pm. I am not sure what they did before and after their time at my house. They did not communicate they had other projects or commitments to work on during the time they worked on my project. They would just show up late and leave early. It makes sense their other projects ran long if they used this work schedule. 3. They did not communicate that there would be two teams to complete the project (one to encapsulate the crawl spaces and one to actually install the drain system). The encapsulation team took four days (partial workdays as noted previously) to complete their work. Once they were complete, I believed the project to be done, however, the encapsulation team said another team would be out to complete the drain system. I was not told prior to the work beginning that they could not work on both parts of the project on the same day. This caused more issues with scheduling and the project to drag out longer. 4. Their encapsulation team did not communicate potential issues that the space may provide to the drain installation team, neither did the sales representative. As a result, I had to incur additional plumbing fees (at short notice) to have the space prepared so that they could install the system and then re-installed it after their work was completed. This was not communicated to me ahead of time and the significant expense to me could have been reduced if the sales rep or the crawl space team communicated with the drain install team. Once the drain team finally arrived, they looked for issues the whole time, and not solutions. I got the sense they did not want to do this project as it clearly was not simple. We eventually found solutions, but not without more conversations that caused more delays in getting the project done. Their drain team leader also tried to sell me plumbing services from a family member on short notice to try to resolve the plumbing issues they needed to be resolved before they could begin. I found this to be very unprofessional and felt gauged and pushed into using his family members service. I ultimately did not use the family member but it did not feel right how they went about it. 5. The drain team uninstalled some limited plumbing on their own and then did not put it back upon their project completion. They left the drainage pipe from my Heating unit to just drain onto the basement floor and the pipe that directed it to the drain was never replaced. They literally caused more water to come into my basement as a result. 6. The drain team never communicated to me that they had no way to plug in the sump pump to an electrical outlet. They just told me the project was complete. I went down to inspect the work after they had left and noticed the sump pump was not even working. I understand the limitations of the space, but at least let me know nothing is working until it is plugged in. 7. A couple of days after the completion of the project there was a massive storm. Water came into my basement (I had run an extension cord to the sump pump as a temp fix). They said the issue was my wall leaking and not the hydrostatic water they had said was t..."

"The crews were extraordinarily polite, friendly, efficient, and very energetic. They ran into a lot of underground water when digging the trench for the buckled wall repair, but were able to put in the necessary reinforcements from inside the basement extending out to the trenched area. We live in an area with a lot of underground springs and artesian water, and when they began work the dirt under the foundation and crawl space was just wet mud, and water poured in at 36 inches deep as they created an outlet for the water to be safely drained away from the house. The basement is completely dry and we have a back up sump pump. My basement is surrounded by a crawl space since it was added after the house was built. The sump pumps and dehumidifier are warrantied for 5 years and the waterproofing has a lifetime warranty. Our house had problems because the basement was added after the house was built, but Indiana Foundation was able to make the house safe, and completely dry and usable. Since we live on a hillside, we will be adding a French drain behind the house and garage, far enough away to not further damage any of the foundations, but at the natural flow of the hillside where water collects to run down hill or underground. If we go at least 36 inches deep, it should help reduce some of the water that flows into the house area. This was some advice given by the supervisor at Indiana Foundation. They don't install French drains any longer, as they don't carry away all water and don't carry a guarantee, but in our situation it will probably help and is something I will be contracting out in the near future. The French drain is similar to what farmers install in fields to drain away excess water to a creek or deep ditch. It isn't something we have to do, but it will put a lot less strain on the sump pumps and other equipment, and in case of a long term power outage, would likely save our other appliances too (furnace, water heater, walls, etc.). I love the battery back up pump and it has already been in use twice when we had two separate power outages from storms. The workmen from Indiana Foundation were delightful to have in my home, running in and out with loads of materials, cheerfully hammering the walls and floors to install their system. Second: My electrician was able to repair a line running to our garage after the water problem was resolved. Water poured in over the connections in the basement without our realizing it, and no electricity was live in the back room of the garage. New basement, New Electric, New Plumbing - we are very happy with the results!"

Drain Pipe Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes, continuing to flush a clogged toilet is not likely to break up the clog. Instead, it will continue to put pressure on the clog while filling the bowl with more water, which can potentially cause the toilet to overflow—leading to an even bigger mess. Rather than repeatedly flushing, use a toilet plunger or plumber’s snake to dislodge the clog.

It is not advisable to use drain cleaner in a washing machine. Drain cleaners contain harsh chemicals that can damage the internal components of your washer, including rubber seals, hoses, and even the drum. These chemicals can also react with any residual detergent or fabric softener, potentially leading to noxious fumes. If your washing machine is experiencing drainage issues, it's best to address the problem directly by inspecting and cleaning the lint filter, checking for clogs in the drain hose, or seeking professional repair services. Using drain cleaner in a washing machine is a risky solution that can cause more harm than good.

Professional plumbers use many high-grade chemicals to unclog drains. Many use hydrochloric acid, known as muriatic acid, when it comes to extreme blockages.

Regardless of the drain cleaner type you choose to use, they all work through chemical reactions that create heat. Thanks to the heat, the clogged hair begins to dissolve until it is able to be flushed away. To avoid clogs in your drain due to hair, use hair catchers and empty them out after every shower.

Yes, many services include camera inspections to identify the cause of the blockage. Confirm with your provider.
