"We moved and bought an as-is home. The bathroom tub/shower area was a throwback to the early 1950s or earlier and was disgusting!! The old iron tub had huge patches of rust, the shower head was calcified in place, the grab bar was positioned at a 90° angle(?), and the tub was PINK (yuk)!! Even with shower shoes we couldn't bring ourselves to bathe there!! We started calling pros right away. Bath Planet gave us the BEST EXPERIENCE ever for an entire tub and shower area remodel!! Doug came out to our home and simply explained why Bath Planet was the company we were looking for to do the job. We chose Bath Planet not only because of their knowledge and expertise in the field, but also because they offered what no other bathroom remodel company can offer (hint, hint)!! That is what sealed the deal for us!! Our installers were very kind and accommodating, got everything done to our satisfaction in just ONE DAY, and cleaned up!! A second bathroom is in the planning stages for Bath Planet!!!"

"We had some strange symptoms and Joe responding quickly. After hearing that we had sewer gas smells and a toilet overflow, he quickly determined that our sewer line needed to be cleared. He rodded out the line from our clean out pipe, and checked that the line was flowing well. This resolved our problems."

Customers say: Quality work

"Jeff and his son, Matt, did an outstanding job updating my bathroom. Their workmanship was of the highest quality and, if you believe that details are important, then be advised that not one was overlooked or left undone. Jeff also alerted me to several problems with the merchandise I ordered, rather than just trying to make due. He sincerely puts the interests of his customer ahead of his own. When my budget allows, I plan on rehiring Jeff and Matt for my next project."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

Many parts of your plumbing system can fail, but clogged drains are one of the biggest plumbing problems you’ll likely encounter. From your kitchen sink, bathroom sink, or bathtub, there are plenty of opportunities for gunk, hair, food scraps, and more to get stuck in drains. When this happens, water will slowly drain, leading to standing water, bad odors, drain flies, and other issues.

Many homeowners can handle a minor clog themselves, but if you have a clog in your main line, you’re best off hiring a local plumber to get the drain back to its normal flow rate.

According to the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), the distance between your trap and the vent should be no more than 6 feet. For your vent to work properly, it needs to feed into the drain line within 6 feet of trapways that connect to it. Using this formula, you should be able to determine whether you will need multiple vent lines.

Yes, and no. Your shower, toilet, and sink all connect to the same main drain, but the secondary drains going from each fixture to the main drain are usually separate. This isn’t always the case—especially in older homes—but since toilets contain black water and showers, tubs, and sinks have grey water, toilets are more regulated and come at a greater risk of contamination. It’s best to keep these drains separate using individual waste collection for this reason.

Emergency plumbers charge a significantly higher rate than for standard service, typically 1.5 to 3 times the normal hourly cost. You can expect to pay between $100 and $500 per hour, with an average of around $200 per hour. In addition to the higher hourly rate, many plumbers charge a flat emergency service or trip fee, which can be between $150 and $300. The final cost depends on the timing of the call; prices are highest for major holidays, followed by weekends and after-hours service on weekdays. For a complex job on a major holiday, a master plumber's rate could reach as high as $600 per hour.

The lifespan of a toilet can vary significantly. While the porcelain body itself can last up to 50 years or more with proper care, most plumbers suggest an average functional lifespan of 10 to 25 years, and many homeowners replace their toilets after about 20 years.

A toilet's longevity is influenced by factors like maintenance quality, hard water buildup, and damage to the finish. It's also important to note that internal components have much shorter lifespans than the bowl; for example, flappers may last only a few years, while fill valves can last around 10 years.

Even if an older toilet is still functional, consider upgrading to a high-efficiency model to save on water costs.
