"This was a terrible experience. We chose them because they were the cheapest but that was a mistake. The gutters look good and work (now). But two weeks after installation it started leaking water down the front of the house and I called and wrote many times asking for someone to come out. When someone did about a month or two later, it did not fix it. So now 7 months later after many calls and requests we finally got them to come out and fix their mistake. I do not recommend it."

A good subfloor can last 30 years or even longer, depending on the material. OSB should last a bit longer than plywood. However, OSB isn’t the best option for heavy flooring types like ceramic tile or stone. It’s also worth noting that regular moisture exposure will drastically reduce any subfloor's life span.

Yes, carpeted stairs are safer because carpet helps reduce the chances of slips and falls compared to harder materials like wood, vinyl, tile, or steel staircases, which lack the friction needed for a secure tread. And, if you do happen to fall, carpeted stairs also have more cushioning in the case of an accident.

There are a few different types of finishes to choose from for the final step of the project. 

Water-based polyurethane sealants emit fewer odors and fumes but dry quickly, which can pose a challenge when trying to get a smooth coat. Oil-based polyurethane sealants let out more odors and fumes into the air (it’s especially important to wear a respirator if you choose this type), but they take longer to dry, which can be more forgiving during the finishing step. 

Some may prefer wood oil to polyurethane because rather than creating a layer, it becomes part of the wood. Wood oil takes longer to dry, and is less resistant to wear and tear; however, it creates a natural-looking result by enhancing the grain of the wood. 

If you’re doing a full bathroom remodel, the flooring will go in before the vanity and any other bathroom cabinetry. This will ensure that the same floor is present across your whole bathroom should you ever tear out your vanity and start again. 

If you can only budget for one or the other, you can still replace just the vanity in your bathroom. Just keep in mind that if you decide to replace your flooring later, you’ll need to tear out the vanity to avoid having mismatched floors.

You can use underfloor heating with most kinds of flooring. However, particularly thick carpet will create problems, since it will absorb a lot of the heat and make it difficult to feel. Also, there are some concerns that underfloor heating can dry out natural wood over time, so if you have wood flooring, get an expert opinion on whether radiant heating is appropriate.
