"We bought our own water heated and had Mr. Boesche install it. Not only did he outbid the other quotes we got, he was the ultimate professional from first contact to answering our calls and texts after the installation when we forgot to ask questions while he was here. He handled ever aspect of the installation including disposing of all the packaging and the old water heater. Not only will we be calling him for all future plumbing needs, we will be calling him for referrals for any home repairs. If Mr. Boesche trusts them, I know I can trust them. The only flaw was that he didn't ask me to write a review and should have. I had to offer. Found him on Angi's and so glad that I did. Getting the heater ourselves and having installing it we saved $1000 versus the companies who would only quote us with a water heater included. We made appointment at noon, and he showed up at 6 PM as promised. Thank you, Mr. Boesch for the excellent service. It was truly a pleasure doing business with you."

"Chad from Cosmic Plumbing did a great job communicating throughout the process. He came in and diagnosed the situation, explained it to me, and suggested how he was planning to resolve the issue. He then did the work and in less than 30 minutes he was done. The price seem fair and I would definitely hire him again."

"We are new homeowners and had a hole in our septic tank made of concrete block, which was sending wastewater into the foundation/basement of the home. It was my first time using Angie's List, and I would recommend Illinois Sewer and Drain to anyone. Joe and his team of experts solved our issue immediately at an affordable price. They even went above and beyond to install a sump pump in our basement to help with the rain water. Quality work!!"

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

A small sump pump running infrequently uses an average of 10 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per month. The average cost for electricity is $0.171 per kWh. The size and use frequency affect how much electricity it uses. Sump pumps average one-third to one horsepower (hp) motors. One hp is equal to 745.7 watts. Watts multiplied by the time your pump is running divided by 1,000 equals your average kWh. Multiply kWh by your average cost of electricity. In areas with high rain or a marsh basin, the average cost can be as high as $15-$25 a month.

A sewage ejector pump is necessary if you have any plumbing fixtures, such as a bathroom, laundry room, or sink, located below the level of your home's main sewer line. Standard plumbing relies on gravity to move wastewater and solid waste to the municipal sewer or septic tank. However, for fixtures located below grade (e.g., in a basement), gravity is not sufficient.

The purpose of a sewage ejector pump is to actively pump this wastewater and solid waste upward into the main sewer line. Without an ejector pump in this situation, wastewater would have no way to exit and would eventually back up, causing a sewage overflow or flooding in your basement. If all of your home's plumbing is on the main floor or higher, gravity can handle the drainage, and an ejector pump is not needed.

You shouldn’t shower while a sump pump isn’t working. Although household wastewater isn’t supposed to go into the sump pit, it’s best to wait to shower until your sump pump is running properly and able to move excess water out of the basement. If you need to shower when the sump pump isn’t working, aim for a short shower.

Grinder pumps alone cost $300 on average. The average cost to install a new grinder pump is between $2,000 and $4,000, including the pump and labor. This price can also change based on the exact type of grinder pump you choose, labor costs in your area, and the power system your home currently has.

When a backflow valve fails, wastewater will flow back into your system, contaminating your drinking water. You’ll immediately notice backflow valve failure from a rotten smell and brown water coming from faucets. Get in contact with a septic pro or a plumber immediately if you suspect this has happened to you.
