"The tenant in my rental property stated she had no cold air blowing. That day I called around for estimates and times to get to it, in busy hot July. I spoke with Moncrief early in the afternoon, and they were able to come out that evening and fix the issue - for a reasonable price, with honesty and integrity. Thanks.

"I found Cool Air via web search for AC Tune Up. They were offering a $39 system check which worked for me. Setting the appointment was very easy and straight forward. Jerry came out the next day and called 30 minutes prior to arriving. He was gloved masked and had booties covering his shoes before entering my home. He was very knowledgeable and made a number of no pressure recommendations and system additions that I didn't feel compelled to have installed. Jerry's approach was more as a consultant vs service person. I like this and would use Cool Air in the future."

"Excellent. Called Steve West and within 24 hours, he was at my home and he immediately identified the problem as a bad condenser coil. We talked through options (repair vs replacement) and within 24 hours of that, my new unit was installed and working beautifully. Will purchase a service agreement with them as well! Cannot say enough about their customer service and responsiveness! Would definitely recommend to anyone."

"Brant Sturgill is the owner. He came to look at my AC which was diagnosed to have a bad compressor by another company. I was in the market of replacing my AC. Brant diagnosed that the unit had a Kick start capacitor circuit that had failed which kept the compressor from starting properly. The compressor was fine. This saved me from spending $4k needlessly. He knows his AC equipment."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

In some cases, yes, portable air conditioners are worth buying. They’re a relatively affordable option for cooling small spaces. (On average, they cost between $100 and $500 per unit.) Plus, they’re easy to set up, and you can move them around to cool various parts of your home as needed. However, they aren’t the most efficient AC option, and they tend to be noisy.

The decision to put your AC unit on the roof or ground depends on the climate in your area, the roof shape, accessibility, and budget. If you live in a warm climate or don’t have existing ductwork, it’s likely best to stick to a traditional AC unit that sits on the ground. However, if you lack yard space, live in a mild climate, and have easy access to the roof, your home may benefit from a rooftop AC unit.

DIY is possible for basic cleaning. Professional services handle advanced maintenance like recharging the refrigerant.

If your whole house is cold that’s one thing, but what if you only have a few rooms that are cold? First, you need to determine why this may be happening. A good place to start is to investigate the potential causes listed in this article—heat transfer, airflow, thermostat problems, humidity, and insulation. Once you’ve narrowed down the issue, you’d apply the same principles to the cold rooms as you would to the entire home.

The DOE is phasing out AC units with SEER ratings that fall below 14 or 15. The exact minimum rating depends on your region. In the northern United States, new ACs must have a minimum SEER rating of 14, though you can still buy and install older systems as long as they were compliant when they were manufactured. In the southern and southwestern United States, you cannot buy or install older air conditioners with lower SEER ratings. The minimum rating is between 14.5 and 15, depending on the power of the unit.
