"My wife and I acted as GC’s for a large home project; painting inside and out, opening a wall, new kitchen cabinets and floors. Dave and his Team were by far the most professional and provided the highest quality of all the 5 contractors. To say it simply, Concept Flooring is a provider that I would recommend to my elderly parents."

"This is a first class company - Johnny and his team are true professionals. They were courteous, results-oriented, efficient, hard working, and the final work product was beautiful. I would highly recommend them for both hardwood floors and carpets. Within a week of Johnny's visit to our home to discuss our flooring needs, the project was completed. I can't say enough good things about this company."

"Simon saved my floors! I had another contractor install real bamboo flooring on slab which they glued down. They didn't clean the glue as they were laying down the floor. They cleaned the glue at the end by which time the glue had cured and the cleaning off the glue completely ruined the finish. I tried to refinish the floor myself and made it worse. When I called around, most contractors refused to take the job saying they won't touch a bamboo floor. Simon agreed to come to take a look. He said he will do his own testing and will only take the job if his testing confirms that my situation is salvageable. He came that night, took a board with him to do his own testing overnight at home and then came back with an extremely reasonable quote next day. He did not charge for any of his time for testing itself. Then he managed to squeeze in my work over next 3-4 days to finish the job with 2 coats. The floor looks amazing now. He is upfront an honest and clearly extremely skilled at what he does. I would not hesitate to hire him for flooring work again."

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

Whether or not transition pieces go under the baseboard depends on a few different factors. If the transitions are being installed with the flooring and before the baseboards, then they will go under the baseboards. If the baseboards are already installed, then it depends on whether or not you want to remove them or undercut them. If not, the transition pieces can butt up against the baseboard.

Door transitions can work with virtually any flooring type; however, different transition strips lend themselves better to specific flooring types. For instance, if you are bridging the gap between a taller floor, like carpet, to a shorter floor, like hardwood, then you will want a transition strip with a slight slope to bridge the height difference. These transition strips are called reducer molding. On the other hand, if you are bridging two floors of the same height, you can use flat transition strips, such as T-strips and seam binders.

When installing carpeting on your steps, start at the top and work your way to the bottom. That way, you can easily control the carpet and create a better seal. This approach prevents the carpet from bunching up or creating wrinkles as you work. You’ll have better leverage over it as gravity helps guide it down each step.

In addition to local hardware stores, many big-box chains and national equipment rental companies carry floor sanders for rent. Additionally, U-Sand, manufacturers of a random orbital floor sander, operate a rental program in partnership with a number of different regional chains and local outlets. Make sure to thoroughly compare the prices at all the stores nearest you—while the costs average out to a similar range across dealerships, some of them offer significantly better rates for long-term rentals than others.

Honestly, very few things in life are 100% anything—and that rule stands when it comes to waterproof flooring, too. Options like porcelain or ceramic tile are a lot closer to 100% waterproof than tiles and planks that have a fiberboard backing, like waterproof laminate or cork flooring. In all cases, it’s a good idea to wipe up wet spills as quickly as you can after they happen in order to avoid water damage.
