"Darren worked on my AC unit. He called ahead to let us know exactly when he would arrive, and did so. He systematically analyzed and found the cause of the problem (air handler not functioning properly). He first checked the thermostat and found nothing coming on, then checked the attic to check for power, line and low voltages, then the breakers for indoor and outdoor unit in the main panel. He then found that the previous company had a hose stuck in drain clean out allowing air handler to pull water into air handler and cause the safety switch to short cycle system and cause compressor to hum. He then removed the hose and poured water down the line and capped the clean out. He cycled the system on and checked for system operation, and then went to the rear of the home to check drain line and found it did not have a proper trap. He then turned existing piping on all drain lines to create a trap. He did this not only for the unit at issue but also did the same for the other adjacent AC units (the drains for which were also not trapped). He then checked to confirm that the drain was operating normally. Darren is a true professional. He went above and beyond. I would highly recommend him !"

"I called At Your Service A/C as my a/c was not working. Matt arrived during the time frame he said he would he discovered the problem was my evap coil, gave me the price to replace, I made a couple of quick calls to make sure the price was in line, and it was better than what I was given on the phone. I agreed, and that same day I had cool a/c again. I could not have been happier."

"We searched for months on a workable and cost effective method for climate control in our garage. LPAC was the only company that gave us several viable and affordable options without trying to sell us something we did not need. They came out the same day we called to assess our situation and determine solutions. We experienced the highest level of professionalism, service and responsiveness from the salesman (Jim), office staff (Carol) and the owner/president (Wayne). The installation team was extremely knowledgeable, competent and meticulous. In addition, the electrician (Matt) went beyond to ensure we had the proper connections in place. All making this experience an A+"

"I called Temperature Patrol to have them perform any necessary preventative maintenance on the 9 year old A/C system at our new home. Jeremy did a thorough job going through our system, but there was no pressure whatsoever to buy anything. I now feel far more comfortable about calling when we DO have an issue....which we all know is not an "if" scenario here in Florida, but a given "when"! If you're going to hire someone to work on your HVAC system, it just make sense to me to establish a relationship based on trust with them first!"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

If your AC condenser is nearing the end of its life, it might leak fluid or make loud or unusual sounds (like grinding or hissing). You might also notice that it isn’t heating your home as evenly or effectively as it once did. Also, an aging condenser will have to work harder to cool your home, which may force it to use more power and drive up your utility bills.

Not if you have a standard unit. Because portable AC units actually work to dehumidify the room, you’ll likely need to drain the unit from time to time—but you won’t have to put water into it. There is, however, another type of air conditioner called a swamp cooler that requires water to operate. If you have a swamp cooler, you may need to fill a reservoir with water and potentially ice. But a swamp cooler is different from a standard portable AC unit.

You should plan to change your AC unit's filter every one to three months, depending on the manufacturer's recommendations. You should also clean the coils at least once per year, but if you have pets or someone in your household has allergies, you might need to clean them more often. Fortunately, many pros will clean the coils and change the filter for you during an inspection, which you should schedule once or twice per year.

ACs don't run on water. They're not connected to drain pipes or any part of your plumbing system. However, they need refrigerant to run. Refrigerant is a gas or liquid that has a low boiling point and absorbs the heat in your home. ACs need this in order to be functional and cool your home. If you suspect your AC is low on refrigerant, you need to contact a licensed HVAC professional. Refrigerant is a dangerous chemical that requires specialized training and permits to work with.

The length of an AC cycle depends on the settings in your thermostat and the unit you have. Central AC doesn't constantly run at full blast the way that a window unit does. A cooling cycle in most homes is 15 to 20 minutes. Then, the unit stays off for seven to 10 minutes to circulate the cold air in the house before the cycle repeats. It should repeat two or three times per hour. A short cycle lasts less than 10 minutes and then turns off.
