"I have never been happier with a painter and I have hired several. After going onto Angi's list, I received a prompt reply from Ruben of Ruben Roman Painting. He came out soon after and emailed a competitive quote. Once started, Ruben kept me informed during each step of the process. Ruben completed the job in a timely manner, but was also a perfectionist. He took extreme pride in his work. He moved furniture, taped and covered parts of the deck, removed old stain down to the bare wood using a chemical cleaner, power washed, sanded and applied the new stain. My deck never looked better! I am that thrilled and highly recommend Ruben for any painting job."

This included locating a vendor that still had access to the out-dated sized siding. He inspected the siding delivered and sent back what was not of good quality. He also worked with our schedule, because we were going out of town. He has also been very willing to do some touch up work. He also provided us with options in selecting the stain for the house and decks. Highly recommend."

"Needed my deck sealed after a year of curing. Quote was high, but I decided it was worth it. Lots of positive reviews. Had some water marks from pots on the deck. After the first brightening there were still watermarks. I sent Bruce pictures and asked that the guys coming to seal make sure the watermarks were taken care of. He told me to point out the spots and they would take care of it. When the sealers came, I pointed out the marks and asked that they make sure they were taken care of before the sealing. They told me that the water marks were the result of leaving pots on the deck...duh. Obviously this is what happened, but was why I was paying Cal Preserving to take care of it. I don't appreciate having to convince my contractors I want something done the right way. I ended up calling Bruce and explaining that I felt like this was being done in a rush, but he assured me his team was professional and that it would get done properly. Placated, I decided to trust it would be OK, despite the static. That was my first mistake. After they were done sealing they asked for the check (before it had a chance to dry and for me to inspect the work). I told Bruce I didn't feel comfortable with this (over the phone), but he reassured me that they weren't that kind of company and any mistakes or issues would be taken care of. I gave the sealers the check. Mistake number 2. The next day I inspected the work to find huge sections of the hand rail completely unsealed and with power-washer damage. Also the water marks were still there and now sealed in. I took pictures and sent them to Bruce. He came out and we discussed the issues. He was nice and told me not to worry and that his guys would take care of it. Another iteration and the handrail was fixed, but the watermarks are still there. At this point I feel like I didn't get the full value of what I paid, and the hassle I went through to get to where I am now, which is barely passable should be avoided by others so I am writing this review. I don't mind paying premium prices, but when I do, I expect premium work. And if I find something wrong with the work, I expect it to be fixed without contention. The fact is I feel like the job was rushed, and I was pressured into paying early. I am a relatively new homeowner and this whole experience has just been a lesson learned. If the watermarks were taken care of, and the rail done right the first time, and nobody gave me static, I would be rating Cal Preserving with five stars. Take warning!"

"Luis is a skilled, hard-working, thorough, and trustworthy professional craftsman who takes pride in doing an excellent job. He cleaned and restained 3 redwood decks for me, along with wood shingling around my house, repainting the white trims. I was deeply impressed with his noteworthy attention to detail in his estimate, pointing out to me many things I hadn't seen, discovering dry rot and other serious deteriorations in the woodwork that was built in the late 1970's. Too many contractors would just paint over the problems, but every step of the way Luis pointed out the situation and gave me options for repair and replacement. I feel so fortunate to have hired Luis and his team to work on restaining, repainting, repair and/or replacing all the defective wood in my structures. He did an outstanding job, and I have full confidence in his trustworthy integrity and skill. I'm already hiring him again for additional work. "I have worked with Ceres Construction on multiple residential projects that have spanned several years in duration. Adrian is one of the most reliable and upstanding contractors I have worked with in Marin and his attention to quality is rare. Our first project was a historic home in Mill Valley where Adrian and team built my children a treehouse that’s right out of a storybook nestled into a large tree. Next he rebuilt several decks/railings, re-sided our ADU, and installed new outdoor electrical. At our next home in San Anselmo, we called Ceres to completely rebuild a large outdoor deck that leaked and caused damage to the living spaces below. We also had them prep the house for sale by replacing banisters, remodeling the kitchen, and finishing the garage. We purchased a very old home that needed lots of work while maintaining the charm. Ceres worked for 18 months and handled everything from foundations to plumbing to drywall. You name it, they can do it all. Best in the business."
