"They started each day at 8:00 AM and worked until 5:00 or later. They were very polite and professional. The lead person George would explain what they would be doing each day and then perform the tasks. The deck looks like it is brand new and the redwood has the original color and grain. Note: the bill included 4 hours of setting the deck screws so they could sand. Otherwise they performed to the bid."

"There is always a sense of uneasiness and dread when encountering a task such as this. I mean to paint the exterior of a two story home in San Francisco? What about the cost? The time? You can bet there was a high level of anxiety while searching for prospective painting companies. However, Omar and his son Junior completed the project without any setbacks. The quote provided was quite a surprise in comparison to the others we received. Omar and Junior could not have been nicer and the job was done within the stated time frame. In addition, on very short notice, Junior was able to sand and stain our back porch/stairs and did a terrific job. We are very happy with the finished product and would highly recommend Indigo Painting."

"Jeff and his crew were professional, prompt, did an excellent job of prepping our deck that was in bad shape, and painting the deck, posts and railings and making it look beautiful again. They cleaned everything up and helped put things back together again for us. We highly recommend Jeff and his very nice and efficient crew."

"Cristoff is a very fair and honest person. He's upfront and very detailed. I had my exterior and stairway walls painted. Mesha was able to do some woodwork for some areas that had wood rot. I appreciated that. I recommend them."

"From beginning through completion Gene exceeded my expectations. I normally do all my own work, but due to my schedule I did not have time to compete the project. Gene arrived when he said he would to give me an estimate. The price and scope of work were reasonable and fair. We set a start date. The night before I received a text to confirm. At 8:00 AM The door bell rang. They were here. The gentleman who pressure washed they house did a great job. Even cleaned the stairs and sidewalk. The paint crew also arrived on time. They did a super job. Clean and quick. Those guys worked really hard during some hot, smokey weather. The place looks great."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

By applying protective finishes and using durable materials that withstand weather and time.

Yes, it is important to wash your deck before painting to ensure the paint applies well and adheres properly. While you don't have to use a pressure washer, it is one of the most efficient cleaning methods. Pressure washing can quickly remove dirt, wood fibers, and flaked paint, getting deeper into the wood than manual scrubbing. You can also clean the deck with a stiff broom and a cleaning solution. Regardless of the method, a clean surface is essential for good paint adhesion. Make sure the deck is completely dry before applying any paint.

Satin paint is generally considered a better choice for woodwork—including trim, baseboards, cabinets, and doors—than flatter finishes like eggshell or matte. Its soft sheen enhances architectural details and stands up well to frequent cleaning and daily wear. Compared to eggshell and matte finishes, satin is more durable for high-touch areas because it is less porous and doesn't absorb dirt as easily. Matte finishes, in particular, are prone to scuffs and are harder to clean, making them less practical for surfaces like doors and cabinets.

The best way to protect a deck is to prevent damage from UV light, water, mold, mildew, insects, and abrasive cleaning methods. Sweep regularly to prevent debris that hides bugs and traps moisture that can result in mold or mildew growth. Use a deck cleaner once a year to remove algae, mold, and mildew. Avoid using pressure washers on high, as they can damage the wood. Applying a deck sealant can protect the wood from UV and water damage, and adding shade can also reduce sunlight damage.

The best temperature to paint a pool deck is between 50 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit, because many paints and sealers require temperatures warm enough for the chemical reaction to take place for proper curing. The paint should not be allowed to freeze, and temperatures above 90 degrees can cause the paint to dry too quickly, also preventing the chemical reaction from following through to completion.
