If you are buying a residential or commercial property and need to know the condition of the property, it is important to check out the credentials of the inspector you are considering. Is the inspector well trained? Does he stay current with continuing education? Does he have a passion for his work and a commitment to high ethical and professional standards? While there are some good inspectors out there, why wouldn't you want the best inspector you can find? Bill Loden is the only inspector at Insight Home Inspection and we encourage you to check out his credentials before you go any further. Here are some highlights: Nationally recognized home inspection expert and was the 2014 National President of the American Society of Home Inspectors. Bill was recently featured in an ABC Nightline Special Report on new home construction titled "New Home Heartbreak." (Nov. 2016) Other publications who have used Bill Loden as an expert include Consumer Reports, Bob Villa, New York Times, Wall Street Journal. Bill has a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction from Miss. St. Over the years he has worked extensively at both the state and national level to raise the standards for professional home inspectors. Bill currently works as a consultant with the Alabama Building Commission to review complaints against home inspectors. At the national level Bill has been heavily involved with the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) since 2003 serving in various capacities including chairing the Ethics Committee, serving on the Board of Directors and serving as national President in 2014. Bill has also worked as an expert for the Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors (EBPHI) to define and write test questions for the National Home Inspector Examination (NHIE) This is the licensing exam for the State of Alabama and 24 other states. Bottom Line: If you can find a home inspector with stronger credentials in North Alabama, hire them.

"I did research to find the most qualified inspector in the area and between his certifications, Angies' List, I chose Bill. When I called his assistant told me he was available the next morning! Scheduled the home inspection for 8:30 AM but since there were early storms rolling in he had completed the inspection before I arrived. He is extremely thorough and professional, and is a former president of the National Society of Home Inspectors. His inspection was detailed, with many pictures, and found issues that saved me from thousands of dollars in repairs. Bill noticed a structural issue with the house which the seller disputed. I had to hire a structural engineer to resolve the issue and he agreed with Bill. A load bearing beam had been removed from the house and it was structurally unsafe and I have no idea how much it would have cost me to have it resolved and then repainted to be ready to sell. Ultimately, the deal on the house did not go through due to damage that occurred after the contract was signed and I hired Bill again when my wife and I chose a new home. He is worth every penny and realtors rarely recommend him to clients because he is so thorough."

When it comes to powering your home or business, you need an electrician you can trust. Mister Sparky provides high quality electrical services you can count on every time. We provide safe and reliable wiring and electrical work for residential and commercial buildings. Our certified electricians are high voltage experts. No residential job is too big or too small. Each member of our staff is friendly, professional and knowledgeable and together we have built our reputation on business integrity.

"This is the second time we have use Mister Sparky of Huntsville for our electrical repair needs. What a terrific company to work with. So courteous and professional. We needed to repair an electrical outlet for our pool light. Turns out the cost was more than we had anticipated due to the original outlet installed by the pool company was totally not up to code. As a result, the outlet had shorted out and could have put electricity in the pool. Scary! Matt and his co-worker did a fantastic job, adding new breakers to the pool breaker box and a new 'sealed' outlet box next to the pool deck. I highly recommend Mister Sparky of Huntsville for any and all electrical needs you might have."

If you have a crack, leak, damage, or just want to update your living space, or even build your dream home; we want to be your contractor!!! We take pride in what we do and want our customers to sleep at night knowing their house is the best it can be!

"It took several months before they got to me, because they are quite busy, but I was not in a big hurry. They did an excellent job; it looks great! They re-used my brick and did a good job of matching the mortar. They removed the whole area around the cracks, cleaned it up, and then re-assembled it. They also redid some brickwork under a downspout and that looks nice as well. They put new molding and lintel around the garage."

Home Inspection questions, answered by experts

There are some instances where a buyer may want to skip a home inspection, but this is not usually recommended. While home inspections are not always required as part of the homebuying or selling process, they are in the best interest of buyers. If you choose to skip the home inspection, be prepared to discover a home’s hidden secrets on your own over time.

Mold inspections cost anywhere from $300 to $1,025, depending on the type of mold, the extent of the area that requires testing, your location, and the accessibility of the affected area. A mold inspection is an important part of the overall process, helping determine the scope of the problem and understanding the best remediation method based on the type of mold discovered.

Federal law doesn’t require homeowners to disclose the presence of asbestos in their home, but some states and local municipalities may require it. That is why it’s important to test an older home for asbestos and other health hazards before moving forward with a sale.

If you intend to do the majority of the work yourself, you can pay to hire an architect or a structural engineer to ensure your home remains structurally sound. They can help with the planning to make sure everything is up to code and safe for your family. On the other hand, if you’re not sure your home will be completely safe when you’ve completed the project, let a pro do the job.

While you can waive a home inspection when buying a house as-is, it’s not a good idea. An inspection will identify any current and potential problems with the home and give you a starting point to budget for repairs. An inspection will also alert you to any major problems with the house that may make you not want to proceed with the purchase.
