"From start to finish S & S are great to work with. Robert did a wonderful job with our interior painting. He was knowledgeable, careful, prompt and overall very professional. The finished job looks great. Cleanup was done very well. We will have this company back for other projects we have. I would highly recommend them."

"Absolutely the best place to use. I don't think anyone else could have done the work they did in the amount of time. We had huge cracks in our walls from settling and previous poor repairs before we bought the home. I am beyond pleased with the work they did."

"Bob stopped over to look at the job and provided a quote on site.  He also left us a color wheel to use for over a week in order to allow us to choose our colors which was very helpful.  Bob was very flexible in working around our schedule, arrived promptly in the morning as promised, and the project budget was exactly as quoted.  Upon completion of the work, everything was spotless.   We would not hesitate to use him again and have requested a quote for some exterior painting work to be done.

"Britt was amazing !! She painted our home when we purchased it sight unseen from California, when we relocated to Wisconsin. She walked me through the entire project from start to finish. Because I wasn’t there, she took on everything and made it so easy for me. She helped me pick out all of the colors for the bedrooms, mud-room and bathroom. She listened to everything I wanted and brought all of my dreams to life. Her work was so precise and clean. It was everything I imagined. We decided to hire her to come back again two more times to paint our family room, hallways and stairwells. Again, the lines were crisp and precise and the paint came out perfectly. Each room now has so much warmth and a great homey feel. We are beyond pleased with her work. She was professional and kind. Friendly and so helpful throughout the entire process. We have small children and she was so sweet making sure their rooms were just right. She now has become like family, and we will be hiring her to be finishing more projects at our home. If you’re looking for a painter or interior designer for your home, look no further ! Britt will help bring all your dreams to life. Thank you 920 Interior Painting & Design !!"

Interior Painting questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can pressure wash epoxy floors, but you must take precautions to avoid damaging the surface. While most epoxy floors can be cleaned with a mop, you might choose to pressure wash if the floor is stained, has ground-in dirt, or is covered with mold or mildew. To do so safely, first soak any stains or dirty areas with a gentle cleanser. Use a lower pressure setting with a gentle nozzle, such as a green, white, or black tip, or a 45-degree angled tip. Keep the spray nozzle at least 18 inches away from the floor to protect the surface. Using a surface cleaner attachment or a rotary scrubber can also help prevent overspray. Be cautious if using a power washer that heats the water, as the combination of heat and pressure may be too powerful and could damage the epoxy coating.

Yes, you can paint over old exterior paint, but success depends on the condition of the existing paint and proper surface preparation. If the previous coating is in good shape (not cracked, peeling, or flaky), you can paint over it with less prep work. However, for the most durable and professional-looking results, follow these key preparation steps:

  • Clean the Surface: Thoroughly clean the exterior to remove all dirt, grime, and mildew. A pressure washer can be very effective for this.

  • Scrape and Sand: If the old paint is peeling, cracked, or flaky, you must scrape off all loose paint. After scraping, sand the surface to create a smooth, even base for the new paint. Sanding is especially important for wood siding.

  • Apply Primer: Using a quality exterior primer is highly recommended. It ensures the new paint adheres properly, improves durability, and provides a uniform finish. If you are painting a lighter color over a dark one, a tinted primer will help cover the old color more effectively.

Some brands offer paint-and-primer-in-one products for convenience. Taking the time to prepare the surface properly will not only increase your home's curb appeal but also help protect your siding and extend its life.

Yes, paint thinner can damage some surfaces. Specifically, it can cause a lot of damage to laminate flooring if applied incorrectly.

You can apply stain over peeling stain, but it’s not a good idea. Your old stain will get in the way of your new stain bonding to the wood, so you’re likely going to see the same issue again shortly after application. Your best option is to sand off the old stain and clean the surface thoroughly before applying new stain.

While the EPA provides guidelines for homeowners to perform DIY lead paint removal, it is a risky process and generally not recommended due to serious health risks and strict regulatory requirements. The process requires precise safety precautions, such as wearing a respirator and protective eyeglasses, creating sealed exits, and using a HEPA vacuum for cleanup. To ensure the job is done safely, effectively, and in compliance with regulations, it is highly recommended to hire a professional lead abatement company. Certified professionals have the necessary training, experience, and specialized equipment (like chemical strippers and HEPA vacuums) to handle and dispose of hazardous materials safely.
