Jack Kratcha made a proposal after touring the house to see what we needed to have painted. He explained to us the choices we had in paint. He and his crew arrived on the agreed date. They did all the cleaning and prep work carefully. They were careful not to spill or splash paint or other materials. They paid careful attention to detail. They cleaned up thoroughly afterwards. We are very pleased with the results

I would have had them scrap and caulk more. Also, they need to cover under work performed as mulch was full of paint chips. Keith answered problems promptly and was easy to work with.

What happened was the local rep quit the company so nobody showed up. I spent a great deal of time trying to track someone down and i got the name of a local re, he did not respond, his mailbox was full. I called the corporate in California and they gave me another name and made arrangements. So about 3 months late the painting got done. The work was satisfactory, but it was about 3.5 months late. The price was right, they ran into some organizational problems, did not handle them right and left me hanging. Price was ok, work was good.
Response from College Works Painting Wisconsin
"Thank you for sharing your feedback. Despite the delays, we're glad to hear that the work was satisfactory and that the price was reasonable."

Working with College Works Painting has been very disappointing. When the college student came out to give us an estimate, she didn't give an accurate quote with the right type of paint. It wasn't until after we signed a contract and we did our "design consultation" that she told us we either needed two coats of the paint she quoted us for or needed to choose a more expensive paint. She expected the job to take 3-4 days. It was nearly two weeks before the job was done. There is also a huge paint spot in my grass on my front lawn where they rinsed out all of their brushes, etc at the end of every day. When I asked her about it she said, "it should grow back next year". Before we started the job, someone from the College Works Carpentry department called and offered to do a free estimate of any woodwork that needs to be replaced before the painters started. He found several areas of rotten wood around some windows and a sliding glass door. This didn't come as a surprise to me and we agreed to have those pieces replaced before the painters came. They couldn't get the work done before the painting job so they assured me the carpenters would paint the pieces they replaced. I had the carpentry team say they were coming and then not show up two times before I called the team and one man gave me every excuse in the book for not showing up. He said he'd be there the next day, they would do a great job, it would be beautiful, I would love it, etc. I really was understanding - life happens. They came the next day, were at the job for less than two hours, and did an absolutely terrible job. I have photos. The removed a piece of wood from the bottom of my sliding glass door that left space between the wood and the glass - you could put your finger in it (and risk cutting your finger on the glass). I called the man who set up the carpentry job and he came out to take a look. He agreed that the job was absolutely unacceptable. I requested my down payment back and he said he would take care of it. He also said would have them come back and fix everything. I wasn't comfortable with the same team coming back and requested a different team. He agreed. That new team came and shared with me what had been done to the sliding glass door damaged it too badly for him to fix or finish the repair and if he tried, the entire panel could fall out. He said he could put a temporary fix in, just to keep bugs out and keep air from flowing in and out, but the door would need to be replaced. He finished the rest of the repairs but didn't have time to paint it because he had so many jobs with College Works - most of which were repair jobs like ours. At this point, I still hadn't gotten my down payment back. I called the man who set the job up again and explained the situation. He eventually called me back with a "settlement" that they would take $400 off the cost of the whole job - still not having refunded my down payment. Again, I said this was unacceptable. My door has been damaged beyond repair and based on my research, I'm going to have to pay close to $2000 to replace it. He said he was stuck in the middle and would have someone from their corporate office get back to me that day (Friday) or the following Monday. It's now late in the day Wednesday and I still haven't heard back from them. In the meantime, I have to finish my own painting job on the trim where the carpentry work was done. Working with College Works has been a headache and a disappointment from the start. i was really hoping to support an organization that helps teach students business skills and what working in the real world is like. However, the person in charge of my painting job never spoke with the carpentry department in regards to scheduling work or when I had concerns. Her response was, "yeah I have other jobs that aren't happy either". No one is taking responsibility and making things right. What's sad to me is these college kids have no skin in this game. They don't care if their summer job gets a bad review - they're back to school in the fall and on to the next thing. This company needs some serious oversight to assure jobs are quoted correctly from the start and are finished completely.

They were coming around thru the neighborhood, door to door, quoted us  We were interested in their prep work. He came before the carpenters came, squeeze us in a week it was the hottest week in Wisconsin which rained everyday.  I ended up calling his managers once because she was the one who originally came who quoted us with the bid and I told her that he is rushing through this he is not doing what we paid for, so she came here and sat down with him and still he rushed thru the prep work. They did a fine job overall, the prep work, scrapping, the peeling, the painting of the facia and the soffit, that he didn't do too well.  They needed to use an electric sander to sand down old peeling paint, that they didn't do too well.

They were thorough and quick, but did not sacrifice quality. CWP was particularly careful to mitigate any lead-based paint issues. They had me look over the work done and I pointed out spots to be redone. They fixed those few small spots without any hesitation.

Everything went according to plan. House staining of cedar siding was completed in one day with prior steam cleaning. Absolutely no complaints. Catrina was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and motivated. She was able to answer all our questions and concerns.

Started on time. When the preparation took longer than expected, did a good job of explaining that the condition of the wood required extra effort and time which were necessary to do the job right.  After painting was completed we noticed the wood was still showing through, They came out immediately, applied another coat and everything looks great!

"It's great to hear about your positive experience with our team! We're glad that our explanation regarding the additional effort and time needed for wood preparation was helpful."

The consultation was thorough and the work was done well. We had some
issues with paint running due to rainy weather during the job, but after
we pointed it out, they were happy to come out and fix those areas. The
house looks great and we have received tons of compliments on it!

The interns in this company are great, however the people above them have unrealistic expectations and this usually ends with customers being upset. The work is very labor intensive and roof and ladder work is pretty terrible. We do provide great paint jobs, but interns and painters are not treated the best.

College Works did a great job. The crew chief, Manny, was very professional, and along with his crew went above and beyond to make sure that the job was done to our specifications and satisfaction. Finished result was excellent, with complete clean-up afterward.

Overall, the experience as a painter was average. The work was very hard and you are working outside so it's not too comfortable. You are doing a lot of ladder and roof work, and that is not very pleasant in the heat of the summer. The pay is decent for the skill level required for this position. I would recommend this job to anyone that is looking to make a little bit of money during the summer and don't want to keep the job beyond the summer months. However, CWP is not the best company to work for. The people up above put a lot of pressure for jobs to be done unrealistically quick and customers often get upset with the protocols of the company.

Liz Gerber did a really good job explaining the different types of stains to use on our deck, color options, and what the job would entail.  We were given advanced notice to when they were going to do the work and it got done in the time frame given to us.  The workers that were at our house acted in a professional manner.  Liz made sure to follow up daily and walk the job site to explain what was done to us.  She also came back to touch up some spots that needed it.  We would definitely recommend working with Liz.
