"Mark at NW Arbor Care followed up promptly and came out to see my project which involved trimming several very large branches from 80 feet maples. He gave me a bid on the spot which seemed very reasonable. He clearly trusted his team to work with me, and was he ever right! They were great! Four people who knew what they were doing and worked together like clockwork. They were pleasant, good communicators, knowledgable, and really good at what they did. I'm so happy with the work which exceeded my expectations. They were flexible and thorough. They cleaned up so it looked better than when they came. I will hire them for any tree trimming needs in the future."

"These guys are fantastic. We met with several arborists, and Brenda & Jose impressed us from the moment we met them. One tree was a problematic situation because it was our neighbor's tree that we needed to have the branches removed from our property, and our neighbor was not cooperating. Originally we planned to have the tree cut with a hedge trimer right up the property line. Jose cared enough and hand-cut each branch individually. This tree is at least 75' tall. The other two trees we in our back yard and again, the team at Altaview performed to perfection."

"They responded quickly to my job request: received an estimate within 24 hours and did the work within the same week. Mathew and team not did an excellent job pruning and shaping our trees, Mathew involved me (with explanations) on the different options in how to approach the pruning and showed me how to care for my Japanese maple. Thank you Shelby Miller and team!!"

"4th time hiring American Tree Care and once again they showed up on-time, did all of the promised work - plus some - matched the estimate and was polite, courteous and very efficient. Removed a died-all-of-a-sudden tree plus another heavy-leaning tree near the telephone and power lines and then trimmed huge cedar limbs that were rubbing on the roof. In the end, there is a nice pile of shavings for the walkway, a neat stack of logs for my neighbor to have - and that's it... nothing more to clean up, nothing damaged and no surprises. Don't hire another tree service without talking to American Tree Care first - it's not too good to be true."

"Mark was very professional and they did a great job of cleaning up the site afterward. Only concern was the cost $675 seemed quite high for tree trimming and taking out old branches. But got bids, and Bushman was the most competitive. So tree trimming appears to be one of those more expensive services for some reason."

"I highly recommend Suave and Sons Tree Work for anyone in need of tree services. They did an excellent job removing a large, difficult tree that was located VERY close to our house. The process was smooth and efficient, and the crew was clean and professional. The owner, Joel, was a pleasure to work with. He was easy to contact and was onsite working along the guys during the job. All of the guys were also very friendly and respectful. Overall, we had a great experience with this company and would not hesitate to use them again in the future."

"I have to remove a tree stump for my house addition project so I called several tree services for a quote, either no one anwsering my phone call or the job was too small. When I talked to Matt he really listened to me about the work and he explained to me very professionally on how they work on such job to make sure no damage for underground utility lines. His quote is very resonable. I anticipated this can take a week to get them on site but it came out that Jim called me next day and he was very professional and did excellent job to remove the stump completely. Jim cleaned up the site after the job is done. I will definitely use them again."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Cutting down a dead tree is always strongly advisable. Aside from being an eyesore, a dead tree can be extremely hazardous, especially when it’s near people or structures. Even if the tree isn’t near your home, it can still harbor pests and diseases that can potentially spread to nearby plants and homes.

Unfortunately, most of the time you’re out of luck if a neighbor’s tree blocks your view. You don’t have a right to a view, so if you have a tree that’s near the property line but on your neighbor’s property, you can’t cut it to be able to take in a majestic mountain or a beautiful sunrise. In some communities, however, there are ordinances protecting scenic views. Checking into your local laws can help you determine your rights in this situation.

The depth of tree roots depends on the species. Trees like oaks and maples can have root systems that grow down 20 feet or more. However, trees that grow in shallow soils will have roots that go only a few feet down. Research how your tree species grows in your climate area to estimate root depth.

Early signs that a tree is struggling include premature leaf shedding and lesions or other strange markings. Peeling bark, dead or rotten branches on the ground, and a conspicuous lack of leaves can all be signs that a tree has started to die. By the time a tree starts leaning, it’s usually too far gone to save.

In some states and municipalities, you will need a permit to remove a tree on your property. In many cases where permits are required, a tree must reach a maximum height before a permit is required to remove it. You can either ask your local building department or a tree removal professional if you’ll need a permit. If you do, you can expect to pay between $50 and $150 for the permit alone. Your tree removal company should pull the permit for you and include the permit fee in your total.
