"Paul with Sunshine Painting Crew was amazing! We were waiting to have windows installed at our house and Paul was very understanding when they were delayed multiple times. He came over a total of 2 times. he first time by himself and painted the entire exterior like a spider. Speedily up and down on ladders. The second time it was Paul with the help of his so to do the trim and patio. Very efficient crew. Sunshine Painting Crew did an amazing job with the exterior of my house, I would absolutely recommend them. Not to mention, Paul is just wonderful to work with as he is so very nice."

Small jobs welcome

"We hired Sunnyside Painting to clean and stain our Deck. They did such an amazing job we hired them to repair and stain another deck that we had at our rental property. They are very focused on quality and provide a very professional service at a VERY competitive price. I plan to hire them for another painting project later this summer. I highly recommend them."

Customers say: True professional

"From working with Patty on the phone scheduling our job during Covid-19 to working with Shad and his crew, everyone has been exceptional and pleasant! On top of that, our home was treated with care as if it were their own. From power washing, caulking, to painting and staining, they took extreme care to not disturb our many plants or get paint/stain on anything other than where it belonged. I can not say enough about the friendliness and professionalism shown by the entire crew. Without a doubt, we would hire them again and highly recommend them for any paint work needed to be done, Several of our neighbors asked for business cards and we won't be surprised to see 5 Star in our neighborhood painting more homes!"

"Tyler and his crew were very professional and easy to work with and did an excellent job repainting our 1930s tudor-style home and garage. He patiently helped us pick colors and provided many samples, and we couldn't be happier with the results.
Shades of Rose made a very competitive bid and, more importantly, demonstrated that they could safely and competently handle the lead-abatement issues that are so common among older homes like ours. Several other bidders whined and moaned about the recent regulations for lead treatment -- one bidder even recommended that we completely replace our cedar siding!  Shades of Rose provided real solutions and put us at ease.

"Vadim and Skavic take great pride in their work and are very proffessional. We had two very large Exterior Wood doors restored and re-stained. They communicated every step of the process well and clearly took a vested interest in the final result. They were incredibly respectful of our time and property and I would highly recommend them."

"Zachary responded to our request for a quote promptly and came out personally to take a look at what needed to be painted. He gave us a reasonable quote with no hidden fees. He and his assistant showed up a few minutes early on the agreed upon date with all needed supplies. They moved and draped furniture along with covering the flooring and carpet to prevent any damage. They were extremely neat and careful with everything. Zachary and his assistant worked together very professionally and did a beautiful job! When they were finished we were asked to come look at their work making sure that we were pleased before they took away all the protective draping and runners. We are so pleased with the workmanship and professionalism. We happily recommend Mi Caza LLC!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Ultimately, overapplication of stain can compromise the deck's appearance, durability, and longevity. It may result in an uneven finish, with excess stain pooling, dripping, or drying into thick patches. It can also obscure the wood's natural grain and texture, detracting from the desired aesthetic. Moreover, excessive staining may not fully penetrate the wood, leading to poor adhesion and premature wear. Additionally, thick layers of stain are prone to peeling, cracking, and blistering as they struggle to bond with the surface.

Applying a sealer or topcoat after staining wood is highly recommended, though not always strictly required. A sealer protects the wood from moisture, UV rays, and weather-related issues, which is especially important for outdoor surfaces like decks and fences. It also enhances the stain's durability, prevents fading over time, and gives the wood a cleaner, more professional-looking finish. For some indoor applications, a sealer may not be necessary, depending on the type of stain used and the level of protection needed. It's always best to check the stain manufacturer's recommendations and consider the wood's intended use and exposure when deciding whether to apply a sealer.

Whitewashing isn’t permanent, but it can last for a long, long time. When you apply it correctly or have a seasoned pro whitewash your brick, whitewashing can last for 20 to 30 years or longer. Whitewash is very durable and typically requires little maintenance, making it a great project for most DIYers.

No, you don't need to stain Ipe decking, although you can if you want to change the color. You will, however, need to apply a UV coating if you don't want the natural color to fade. Speak to a deck staining specialist near you to discuss the best options if you want to stain your decking. And remember that you’ll need to seal your Ipe wood deck annually to protect it from scratches and Mother Nature.

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.
