"We started looking for exterior house painters last winter and after completing our due diligence and reading reviews we selected PHP to perform the task. They just completed the home and it looks stunning. It is very challenging to select from so many choices and proposals presented by companies - especially since once of us is somewhat obsessive about workmanship details. We are so pleased with our results and relieved to have made the right choice! Every encounter with this company was a pleasure. Elia and Alex were onsite several times during the course of the project providing oversight and even brought lunch for their crew. We believe that how a company treats employees is a true reflection of their core values and were impressed with the interactions we observed. Communication was excellent. Alex explained the process from start to finish and provided us with a bid. Elia handled communication providing updates for work days around weather forecasts. They worked with us to select the best paint for our ”tree house” environment, and provided two walk around inspections to make certain the job was completed to our satisfaction. The two year guarantee on their work is an additional bonus. If you are considering hiring a company to paint your home, we recommend this company without reservation. Every step of the way and each contact was handled with utmost courtesy and professionalism with us and within the work crew. This family run business takes customer service to a new level and the results are impressive."

"The company is certified to deal with lead paint. They did an excellent job. with a 3 color Victorian home in NE. They have a good guarantee and came back and fixed a couple areas the following year. They also do pressure washing and did an excellent job on soft wood(cedar) decking and pavement."

Small jobs welcome

"Carlos painted my home and shop 3 years ago and did an excellent job. I got a bid for painting my deck railing and staining the deck itself. The bid came quickly and very reasonable. The job was done quickly and just as we had agreed upon. You wonâ t be disappointed."

Small jobs welcome

"Baltazar and his crew did an outstanding job restoring my decks and repairing and staining the stairs and railings on my home. Because my house was built in 1900, it has plenty of unique quirks and intricate details that required extra care and attention. Their workmanship was exceptional, and it was clear they take pride in producing high-quality, detail-oriented results. Baltazar communicated with me clearly throughout every stage of the project, keeping me informed and making the entire process stress-free. He was also very respectful of my budget and timeline, working with me to ensure everything stayed on track. The entire crew was professional, friendly, and a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend Baltazar and his team to anyone looking for quality craftsmanship and reliable service for a deck restoration, repair, or staining project."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Staining or sealing a cedar deck or fence is highly recommended to extend its lifespan and protect it from the elements. While cedar is naturally resistant to mold and mildew, it is not impervious to damage from moisture, sun exposure, splintering, fading, and rot over time. Applying a protective finish creates a shield that preserves the wood's strength and appearance, potentially extending its life by five to 10 years.

When choosing a finish, it's helpful to understand the difference between a sealer and a stain. A sealer sits on top of the wood, whereas a combination stain and sealer soaks into the top layer. Because it penetrates the wood, a stain generally offers better protection against UV damage and rot and lasts significantly longer. For the best results that also preserve the wood's natural color, consider using a near-translucent stain.

To maintain protection, plan on reapplying the stain or sealer every two to three years, either as a DIY project or by hiring a professional.

A wood deck requires annual cleaning and regular inspections for loose or broken boards, nails, and screws. It should be refinished by applying a stain or sealer every two to three years to protect the wood from water damage, rot, mildew, and sun fading. The exact frequency can depend on the climate and the deck's exposure to sun and moisture. If your deck is painted, it will need repainting approximately every 10 years. Signs that your deck needs refinishing include faded, splintering, or warping boards.

DIY staining or painting is manageable with proper preparation, including safety measures, necessary tools, and adherence to safe weather conditions for application.

Whether you can paint over your existing paint depends on what’s on there. Most of the time, you’ll want to sand down or scrape off the paint that’s currently coating your surface. Epoxy paint, for example, won’t let new paint stick to the surface. Latex paint is more forgiving and will accept a new coat, but a primer is recommended if you’re switching colors.
