"We recently hired Dan Muir and his crew from Muir Painting to paint the exterior of our home, and we couldn't be happier with the results. The attention to detail was outstanding. His foreman, Matt, and the rest of the crew did meticulous prep work and painting all the way up to the final clean-up. Dan is professional, easy to communicate with, and clearly takes pride in his work. If you want a high-quality paint job that looks like it will last, look no further!""

"Fine. Power washed front of house, came back the next day to do a detailed re-paint and re-stain of a complex area consisting of shingles, weathered wood accent sections, plaster areas and eaves. All had to be color-matched which Mark (owner) had done earlier. Mark’s two ace painters, Michael and Steven, were meticulous and their work was outstanding. The re-done areas look terrific and blend in perfectly with the original areas. Clean up was thorough."

Small jobs welcome

"I hired JJM construction to repair my large deck from a recommendation of a friend of mine who had met him at church. Jared provided me with a bid and recommendations on how he would repair my deck and preserve portions of the existing deck. His bid was very reasonable, and he also included a couple other jobs that I needed to have done at the same time. When Jared and Jeremy came out to do the work, they had the deck repair done within three days. They did an outstanding job. I feel as though I have a brand new deck. The workmanship was very meticulous and they were very thoughtful of my property and left it cleaner than what they started with. I would definitely hire Jared and his company again should I have a need for any other work. I will say that I have been screwed over by other general contractors in the past on work on my house, but this time I think I found the diamond of contractors. Clarification I will be doing the painting and staining myself."

"

Paul, who owns Sunshine Painting and Contracting, provided a bid at no charge to paint all four of the townhomes in our complex. We do not have a HOA because each home and the land beneath it is owned individually. His price was fair and he agreed to bill each individual owner separately.

Paul was here each day as the work was done. He worked along with his helpers. All of them were pleasant and patient as they worked on the job. Paul, especially, explained exactly what was to be done and answered any questions we had during the process. He was friendly and professional.

After we were no longer under contract (which went into effect on 6/18/2007), I noticed paint chipping in a number of places. Thinking it had been about three years since the work was completed, when in reality it had been much longer, I called Paul and he said he would be glad to come out and look at the situation, even though the contract was no longer valid. It had expired in 2009 or 10. When he arrived, I explained that I had not experienced paint chipping on other homes I have owned until a longer period of time.. He offered to remedy the situation. As a result, he came out to my home, scraped, sanded, primed and painted areas that needed attention at no cost to me. He even went to more than one paint store to find a particular paint he thought would be the best for coverage on railings that had some rust, not an unusual situation in Oregon because of rainy weather west of the Cascades.

While Paul was at my house, my neighbors wandered over to see what Paul was doing. They had some rust problems as well, and he agreed to touch up their railings, also at no cost.

Altogether, Paul worked for more than a half a day and satisfied all four owners. He was phenomenal and provided outstanding service far beyond his guarantee and our expectation since we were no longer under contract. I recommend him completely and without reservation. I don't know how people are chosen for a Page of Happiness, but if I were to judge him as an owner, operator, and worker, I would certainly see that he received one. It was a pleasure doing business with him, during the original job and during the additional service he provided today.

"They did a great job from start to finish. Proper scraping and prepping was done by one crew. When weather permitted another crew came in and taped, and sealed off different parts of the house as they progressed through the painting. We did the same house color and trim but Elia figured better ways to accent parts of the front of our house which looks great. They restored the front door to make it look new. They do not do carpentry so we had another company replace deck boards before PHP started. Overall we are very pleased with the communication through Elia and effort on PHP to get the job done by a certain deadline which helped us. The price was very reasonable, they work very hard and long hours."

"Tyler and crew did an amazing job from bid to finish.  They told me to
call if I saw any issues, I looked around closely and they had missed a
couple of spots on a gutter and under they awning (which was only
visible from inside the house), but came back promptly to fix the issue
when I called.  Job was on house with lead based paint, so they scraped
but could not sand.  We did not explore full removal because paint was
generally in decent shape, only one side of house needed moderate
scraping.  Excellent service and quality of work was exceptional.

"We requested quotes from four contractors to paint our single-level 1,300 square foot house and 8'x12' shed. Not only was Ric the only one to respond, but he emailed us less than an hour after we requested quotes and came over that same day...and it was on a Sunday. Talk about a great first impression! He sent his quote the very next day, and it was about what we expected to pay. We are very happy with the work that Ric and his crew did. Ric is very personable and professional. He listened to what we had to say, and made some recommendations such as caulking the siding where necessary, which we agreed to have him do. His crew came over a couple of days before they were scheduled to start work to pressure-wash our house and shed. The actual painting took only two days, and there is absolutely no overspray or paint drips on the concrete or on our deck. They cleaned up after themselves and the house looks brand new. We've already referred them to two friends who are thinking about having their houses painted next year."

"So happy we chose D&N Colors Painting, LLC when we decided to have our house painted. They pressure washed the house, our ramp, and the carport. We had them stain our ramp, too. Everything is just beautiful. And to top things off the price was very reasonable. We would recommend this company to all our friends and family."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Deck staining or painting safeguards wood against the elements through its protective layer, enhancing decay resistance, prolonging structural integrity, and improving visual appeal.

There are more pros than cons when staining a deck. Deck stain is more affordable than paint, it protects the wood and allows the natural textures to shine through, and it can revive the appearance of your home. However, deck stain also requires prep work (sometimes days or more), carries more upkeep than a painted deck, and can fade over time if not cared for.

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.

Ensure gutters and downspouts remain clean, monitor wall integrity, and promptly address any arising imperfections or peels concept permanence rooted.

It’s necessary for paint to completely dry before exposure to rain, and that drying time varies by the type of paint used. Oil-based paint takes 6 to 8 hours to dry on average, meaning that’s the minimum time needed between the last brush stroke and the first raindrop. Latex paint dries faster at around 1 hour, and acrylic paint is even quicker, usually drying in about 30 minutes. If rain is in the forecast, check the paint manufacturer's details before laying on a new coat.
