"CJ Pedroza was the A1 technician sent to replace my garbage disposal. He arrived on time, was pleasant and neatly dressed in uniform shirt and had a badge clearly identifying himself. He got to work immediately, had some issues removing the old disposal which he resolved quickly and completed the new customer furnished disposal in about 45 minutes. He vacuumed up and took away all the old unit and trash. I would give him 5 stars."

"We are more than pleased with our bathroom we just had done. Thanks to the team at Quality Remodeling. 5-Star service is what you get from this company and their prices are more that great if you are like me and didn't have the largest budget. They worked with me to get my bathroom done at a price I could afford. Will us this company again. Thanks!"

"Very knowledgeable staff. Do a water test! You'd be shocked to find all the nasty stuff lurking in your water. I had a water softener and clean start installed. We've all been there, busy week with clothes forgotten in the wash that start to stink. I rewashed them with no detergent and they came out smelling fresh!! The softener has made such a huge difference in my family's hair and skin!"

Install Garbage Disposal questions, answered by experts

Soil is just one of the items you shouldn't put down a garbage disposal. Garbage disposals are only meant for soft, non-fibrous foods. Large amounts of topsoil, dirt, or rocks will damage the blades of your garbage disposal or clog the pipes. If a small amount of dirt goes down the drain as you repot a plant, you shouldn't have to worry, but never dump a whole pot of soil in the sink for fast disposal.

On average, it takes one to four hours for a professional to install a garbage disposal. This includes removing the old unit, taking necessary measurements for positioning, removing and fitting new pipes, and installing the brand-new disposal system. If there are unforeseen issues, such as accessibility concerns, the process takes longer.

Replacing a garbage disposal costs anywhere from $150 to $950, but the average cost is somewhere around $550. There are two types of garbage disposal units, and continuous feed disposals tend to cost more than batch feed disposals. Going for an aluminum garbage disposal is also significantly cheaper than choosing a stainless steel garbage disposal. You'll also need to factor in the horsepower of the motor, labor, and the removal and disposal of your old unit.

When a dishwasher discharges its wastewater, it uses a pump to quickly move a lot of water. If anything in the drain line or the garbage disposal impedes the high volume of water, it will back up into the sink through the drain or the garbage disposal. Following regular dishwasher maintenance tips like clearing clogs, keeping them cleared, and occasionally running the disposal will eliminate the problem.

While unplugging your garbage disposal and plugging it back in may help, most units have an actual reset button, a bright red switch found on the underside of your unit. If your garbage disposal needs resetting, you may notice this button sticking out about a quarter of an inch from the surface of the unit, with which it’s usually flush. Simply depress this reset button to reset the unit, and then test to ensure it’s working about 10 minutes later.
