"Dustin was outstanding, timely and thorough in an inspection of my gas fireplace. He went above and beyond when he found significant problems around the exterior of my chimney. He identified several areas and detailed a solution to fix the roof areas around the chimney that would prevent any leaks or future problems. He was willing to work with my timeline to get the work quickly scheduled and completed. I highly recommend Dustin and this company."

"I've used American Professional several times at various houses I've lived in or owned. They are an honest and professional company that does good work and stands behind it. I recently got them to give me an estimate on rebuilding the top portion of a chimney that needs brickwork. They inspected the chimney, told me it was safe to use, and gave me a very reasonable estimate for the chimney rebuild, saying that it can wait until spring if I wish. From my experience, they will do everything they can to satisfy the customer, whether it's a simple chimney cleaning or custom work. This is the best chimney company in the DC area by far."

"Although the work is not completed yet the American Chimney Sweep Pros explained the process they were going to use to accomplish all phases of the work. And due to me changing the scope of the work it was necessary to rescheduled the work for three days to get required parts. So far they've showed a high degree of knowledge. I look forward to their return to complete my work."

Chimney Sweep questions, answered by experts

Professionals remove soot, restore structural integrity, and eliminate smoke odors safely.

Baking soda is an effective fire reduction method. However, flour and baking powder are very dangerous around flames. Flour is flammable and it can also conduct electricity. The combination can cause serious injury from electrical shock and worsen the situation by adding fuel to the fire. Baking powder is also not an option as it's also highly flammable.

Burning a single palm tree stump, if you’re careful, is technically doable DIY. However, you should always take precautions to control the fire and do research if you’re burning multiple types of trees.

Some trees, such as ornamental trees, black cherry, and some oak trees, release toxins into the air when burned that can be irritating to your lungs (or even dangerous) to breathe in.

Depending on who’s doing the estimating, about 22,000 to 25,000 chimney fires happen each year in the United States. Given the fact that millions of Americans have fireplaces (and chimneys), that means chimney fires aren’t exactly common—but they’re not rare, either. Since they’re so dangerous, it’s important to take precautions to prevent them.

Just about anything that can damage your roof can damage a solar panel. It’s common for panels to sustain damage from hail or falling branches. Critters can chew through the wires. Snow and heavy rainfall can cause additional wear, along with extreme temperatures, which can degrade or stress the individual components. Even the UV rays that create electricity slowly damage your panel over time.
