It can even seep right through perfect brick & mortar, in which case a very thorough application of the best water repellent is indicated. I've used American Professional several times at various houses I've lived in or owned. They are an honest and professional company that does good work and stands behind it. I recently got them to give me an estimate on rebuilding the top portion of a chimney that needs brickwork. They inspected the chimney, told me it was safe to use, and gave me a very reasonable estimate for the chimney rebuild, saying that it can wait until spring if I wish. From my experience, they will do everything they can to satisfy the customer, whether it's a simple chimney cleaning or custom work. This is the best chimney company in the DC area by far.

We contacted at least half a dozen companies prior and they either 1) did not show up or 2) never sent quote or 3) came up with ridiculous amount of work and 4) overpriced. Welcome to this team. Courteous, professional, gave us for the first time a real understanding of the different options and we were able to understand what was best for us. They even had brochures to see the options in finer detail. Between the first appointment and the job done, we were done in no time. Something that took us over a year to begin with others! Payment options was also perfect for us. Tip: Let them know what use you want for the chimney (decorative, to heat the home? Etc.). Anything else you want to do to that chimney aesthetics wise? I have used American Professional Chimney and Masonry on three different occasions and I am very happy with the work and the service. They are my "go to". I had the upper 40% of my chimney rebuilt, I had chimney liners installed, and I recently had a couple of smart solutions done to prevent smoke from going up and out of one flue, and down the one right next to it. I'm confident that this problem has been eliminated in advance of the upcoming fall/winter wood burning season. I will continue to use APCM for maintenance.

Second year owning a fireplace and I wish I'd gone with these guys again. The rates went up across the board in the area and I went with a group that was 30 dollars cheaper this year. Where American Professional did an excellent job explaining and cleaning, this other group wanted $1900 to replace hairline cracks and ultimately left the fireplace dusty and a mess. Next year I'll definitely spend a little more to get it cleaned and inspected by American Professional again, because they just did a much better job.

We had work done from them several years ago and we noticed water damage in our fireplace. They came out and honored the warranty with no issues or gotchas. They made it right and fixed all the issues including repairing the water damaged fireplace insert. Stefan was a pleasure to work with and explained everything. We had American Professional Chimney and Masonry perform repairs to the brickwork of our chimney and flue, inside and and out. We met with 3 chimney companies and selected APCM on the strength of their detailed analysis of our needs and full explanation of their proposed service. Their representative was very professional and offered no gimmicky "one day only" or "manager special" price quotes. He was knowledgeable on all aspects of chimney repair and walked us through the process and options of installing a gas fireplace. We also appreciated that APCM would do all necessary electrical, gas, and masonry work for a complete installation. All of their staff was friendly, professional, punctual and efficient. We were pleased with all aspects of our experience with APCM, from first visit to final installation.

Charged $99 for initial estimate in December. Told a part was needed, and we agreed to order it. A month later second appointment was cancelled because they said they obtained the wrong part. Then a third appointment was cancelled because of "inclement" weather -- slight rain and snow. Attempts to connect subsequent ignored. Net result: out nearly $100 bucks! And no fireplace this winter. Insufficient explanations. No apologies. Subsequent to review, American Professional Chimney manager contacted us and personally took charge of ordering and installing the part — indeed with extraordinary evening effort. The company also adjusted its charges to compensate us for our trouble. Management's effort to rectify our situation has restored our confidence in this enterprise.

"Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. I can see you weren’t entirely happy, but you were nice enough to give us a C. I’d like to offer an explanation for you and other people who might read this review. What our estimator was basing his proposal on was that you had a complaint regarding cold air coming down your chimney and ta bad smell. Throat dampers, like yours, typically leak cold air and odors. Yours was broken out of its track and apparently somebody was able to get it back up in there but I’m sure you’ll notice that you still have some cold air and odor. Throat dampers like yours come with two holes in them for different sorts of rotary control mechanisms and are not made airtight. We were offering you a throat damper with a 1 inch thick gasket that seals perfectly and stops all cold air and odor and saves quite a bit of energy. We tend not to like to do projects to leave the people feeling unhappy with the quality of our work. I’m glad you got the situation straightened out enough to partially prevent the heat loss and if you still want to get an airtight damper system I believe are the only company in the area that offers it. Some of the fireplace stores offer gasketed glass doors that they claim or air tight, but they’re not nearly as airtight as our dampers and cost considerably more. The project went really well! The team that came out for the estimate and inspection were very prompt and friendly. They walked us through the issues that needed resolving and even uncovered an issue with the roof and gutters.
