"I forgot to do this review but am glad I did because I am two years out having waterproofing services by this company. The drain and sump pump recommended by Robert Ellis is absolutely worth it. I no longer am anxious about weather forecasts because of the work done. Robert evaluated my home, gave me options and soft recommendations then allowed me space to make the best long term decision. Completely satisfied and would recommend."

"They had to replace the sump pump for the basement bathroom. The service and work were great, and the system works better than the original. I appreciate that they are very conscious about social distancing."

"My sump pump was starting to fail. Shane was able to confirm the problem and replace the sump pump. From initial call to replacement was one day. Excellent service! After work was complete, everything was cleaned up. Overall, professional service and efficient billing/invoicing/etc. I highly recommend DB. This is the second time I have used DB and both times have been great."

"Installed an awning purchased through Lowes for $300 and also for my neighbor, who I referred him to, and he sold them a Sunsetter awning and installed as well.

The first awning from Lowes ended up being defective and had to be returned two weeks later after being installed by RBI.   Hired them to come back, take it down to replace the defective awning with the replacement - paid them another $300 + $60 for materials due to a different type of bracketing system for an upgraded version of the awning.   Actually RBI did a nice job of installing on both installations.  However during the second installation it was determined that on the end caps was damaged in shipment as was a piece of plastic protective trim.   Also, awning manufacturer failed to send to proper instructions for manual retracting device, so it was agreed that Ryan would return upon receipt of those items from the manufacturer to install these parts.

After receiving word from Lowes that the damaged awning replacement parts were on the way Ryan at RBI was notified; about a day or two after texting him I got back a text that he was out of town and he would TRY to contact me the following week to schedule a time to come by.

The following week came and went with no contact so I emailed again and a couple of days later he wrote back he was extremely busy and would get to me when he could.  That was about two weeks ago.   A few days ago I again emailed RBI, twice last week, to see if we could at least get on their schedule - ZERO RESPONSE TO BOTH EMAILS AND A TEXT - so while he did a good job and the awning being defective is not his issue, he was paid for his time at his standard rates both times and this return visit was also to be billed at his standard rate, of which Lowes is partially reimbursing me - however best I can tell is RBI is either not interested in coming back for a small job (estimate would be a couple of hours for these fixes) at a time and date of his choosing OR perhaps he just has poor communications skills - not sure which but when a contractor fails to at least make an effort to get me on his schedule after nearly a month of back and forth (and ultimately ignoring us) then it's time to move on.   While Ryan and RBI does competent work, it's negated by ignoring a past customer and not returning their calls or messages after PROMISING to do so.

RBI seems to be interested in only larger jobs, in the moment, and not referrals or future jobs - VERY SHORT SIGHTED because big jobs often come from little jobs and referrals.   We like Ryan, he is very friendly and pleasant but I don't think he understands "relationships" and business building.  We had hoped to use them to finish our basement and add a screened in porch.  Not now. We even posted him on our community network as a recommended contractor however I decided to remove him due to his poor communications skills, something I cannot tolerate."

"This company was very professional. The communication with the office about arrival times the best I’ve ever had with any company previously. The technicians were top notch experts, they explained everything in detail, they provided options that were adjustable to my needs. The only thing that was truly a downside was the cost. I felt the cost of the labor and the markup on the items being installed was on the high side. The quality of work was top notch. I had both electrical and plumbing work done. Two separate technicians were scheduled a day apart to handle the work. The electrician installed 4 GFCI outlets (one was an alarm sounding outlet on the sump pump), 5 regular outlets, 1 light switch, 2 smoke alarms, a new breaker in the box, and a surge protector on the breaker box. He also checked the polarity on all the outlets and found three that were wired with reverse polarity and corrected them. Cost $2,500. The plumber replaced an outside faucet, replaced the pressure reducing valve on the main water line, replaced a main water shut off valve, installed hammer arrestors on the washing machine water lines and replaced the lines. Cost $2,100."

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

A small sump pump running infrequently uses an average of 10 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per month. The average cost for electricity is $0.171 per kWh. The size and use frequency affect how much electricity it uses. Sump pumps average one-third to one horsepower (hp) motors. One hp is equal to 745.7 watts. Watts multiplied by the time your pump is running divided by 1,000 equals your average kWh. Multiply kWh by your average cost of electricity. In areas with high rain or a marsh basin, the average cost can be as high as $15-$25 a month.

A sump pump can be plugged into a regular, 110-volt outlet with three-prong openings, but it must have GFCI protections per the NEC, meaning you’ll need a GFCI outlet and circuit. Sump pumps require two outlet openings, one for the plug to the motor and one for the float switch.

Sump pump repairs are typically handled by plumbers or waterproofing specialists who are experienced in handling basement and foundation-related issues. Plumbers can address issues like clogs, electrical problems, and mechanical failures, and waterproofing professionals may be ideal if the sump pump is part of a larger drainage or waterproofing system.

Some people may also call on a general handyperson for minor sump pump repairs. However, for complex problems, hiring a certified plumber or waterproofing expert ensures the work is done correctly and prevents further issues.

Yes, it’s normal (and beneficial) to have a small amount of water in the bottom of your sump pit. It shows that your system is collecting groundwater, rain, and excess water from around your property—just like it’s supposed to. However, if the sump pit is always full, you might have a leak or a faulty sump pump.

There are a couple of similar alternatives you may consider for a sewage ejector pump, including a grinder pump or a submersible sump pump. Submersible sump pumps protect your home from flooding from outside water, though, rather than handling wastewater from inside. A grinder pump macerates, or shreds, solid waste before pumping it onward to the sewer line.
