"Davon from NextDay Inspect did a very thorough inspection of the home. The day of Davon explained what to expect during the inspection, providing us a verbal summary as he completed review of each section of the home. The report he completed was detailed reiterating the issues he came across noting the risk to the home and health. The report also linked to clear photos of the issues."

"Great customer service, Rick scheduled me a appointment to my convenience. Rick and Kim showed up on time and were very professional and friendly. They listened to my concerns, scouted the house from inch to inch and not only pointed out the possible bad issues but also pointed out the good things with the property. They took pictures of everything which let me know they were very detailed. The inspection was about 2.5 hours but Rick and Kim stayed after to answer some of our questions, and we received our detailed inspection report within 48 hours. Also his pricing was very competitive compared to other inspectors"

"I had Troy Vogt at Royal T Home Inspection do a home maintenance check-up — kind of like a multipoint inspection for your car — and he did a great job. He gave me peace of mind and a clear idea of what to do next. His report was thorough, easy to read, and simple to share with my contractor. He pointed out important safety issues but also reassured me that things like cracked brick veneer and uneven floors weren’t too serious. He was available for follow-up questions and very responsive, which made the whole process easier. I would recommend him to any homeowner."

"This is the second time I am using Val and his company. Thanks to Val we were able to identify a semi-hidden mold issue in our home from a long-term, slow leak. He was very professional and thorough. I was thankful for the easy-to-read report/test results we received. I would highly recommend Val for your mold testing needs."

Home Inspection questions, answered by experts

While home mold tests can provide a simple identification of mold presence, they lack accuracy and reliability. These kits may detect mold spores but can't pinpoint the source or identify the type. Professional testing, combined with an inspection, is more comprehensive and leads to actionable next steps.

While a hygrometer is the most accurate tool for measuring humidity, you can gauge the levels in your home using simpler methods that provide rough estimations. One way is to observe physical clues. Signs of high humidity include mold growth, condensation on windows, or feeling sticky and clammy indoors. Conversely, dry skin or dry furniture can indicate that the humidity is too low. You can also try DIY tests, such as the ice cube test, using two different thermometers, or the “hair method,” which involves placing a few strands of human hair in a closed container with salt for several hours—if the hair becomes limp, humidity is likely high.

Homeowners insurance may cover shower pan leaks, but it depends on the type of coverage you’re looking for. Typically, home insurance policies cover sudden or accidental water damage, for example, if it comes from a busted pipe or malfunctioning appliance. Damage to a shower pan is usually gradual. A repair or replacement of your shower pan usually won’t be covered by your policy. If your shower pan leak causes water damage, chances are your standard policy—if it includes water damage—will cover the repair.

There are a few different types of flues out there, including throat dampers and top-mounted dampers. A throat damper will look like a piece of metal inside the chimney that is either opened or closed, while a top-mounted damper will simply make it so that you can see the daylight streaming in through your chimney from inside if it’s open.

The three main types of home inspections you should always carry out for new construction include a pre-drywall inspection, a post-drywall inspection, and a one-year inspection. The pre-drywall inspection can identify building code violations, issues with plumbing, electrical, and HVAC components, and structural issues. The post-drywall inspection can identify damaged building materials, insufficient insulation, and more. An inspection at the one-year mark after construction will identify problems your builder must fix under their comprehensive one-year warranty.
