"Efficient crew. They had excellent communication skills. I was apprised of needed alterations to the deck as they laid trex Composite flooring. All my questions were answered. I was given ideas on hanging my Shepard's hook that holds my bird feeder to the railing after the installation of Trex. The crew of 2 persons worked 3 days to give me a beautiful new flooring, stairs and railing look. I will be staining the wood tines myself."

"Great job! They did the work they promised on schedule at the agreed upon price. We have some bay windows that were original construction and the floor was not insulated. They put in insulation and proper soffit. Looks great! And for the first time in 7 seven years, our house main floor is not cold this winter! I have other projects that I will have them do as well!"

"Curtis, our project manager, was great! He was responsive to our requests and concerns â very easy to work with. I thought he managed the varied trades necessary for the building of our sunroom well. The whole project went smoothly after the county finally issued the building permits. I would definitely recommend Stoneridge and would use their services again â especially with Curtis as the project manager. And, Curtis had a crew clean up after all construction was done leaving us with a sparkling new sunroom. Thank you Stoneridge!"

"He repaired our railings so that they were stronger than they were the day they were initially installed 20 years ago. He completed the work in less than an hour, charged a very reasonable fee, and when he left the area was as clean as it was when he got there. I could not possibly ask for anything more from a repair."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Bump-out additions can extend anywhere from 2 to 15 feet from an existing room. The right size will depend on how you plan to use the new space. For a cantilever bump-out, which doesn't require additional foundation support, the limit is typically 24 inches (2 feet). If a footing and foundation are part of the project, a bump-out can be much larger, even encompassing a whole room. It's also important to remember that many residential properties have limits on the total house size relative to the lot size.

New builds, remodels, and additions often necessitate professional framing expertise.

The easiest way to tell if a wall is load bearing is to check if it’s an exterior wall or if it runs perpendicular to the joists above and below it (or parallel to beams). Exterior walls are almost always load-bearing, and walls that run under beams or parallel to them are also usually load-bearing. There are exceptions to these rules, and walls that don’t fit into these categories can still be load-bearing. If you’re unsure, hire a structural engineer to look at your home to assess whether or not the wall is structural.

There are a few easy ways to locate a wall stud without a stud finder. First, try knocking on the wall with your knuckles. Most parts of the wall will sound hollow, but when you tap over a stud, it will sound more solid. Alternatively, since studs are spaced 16 or 24 inches apart, you can measure those distances from a corner of the room, which will always have a stud.

Yes, walls on the top floor can be load-bearing if stacked on the floor’s foundation.
