"We hired them to build a wood deck and pergola in our backyard. Jarrod was assigned to our project. He helped us choose materials that would last and stay within our budget. The deck turned out beautiful. The pergola adds just the right amount of shade and really makes the space feel like an outdoor room. The whole process took about 2 weeks and they kept us updated throughout. Great company that delivers what they promise!"

"Cleaned gutters on two story colonial and also gutters on addition and two car garage.  Several gutters were badly in need of cleaning/unclogging.  Also, Vince adjusted several downspouts, added support brackets, and repaired a few supports on gutters.  We are very pleased with the work."

"

First off - we LOVE our deck. It's a great product and we couldn't be happier with how it turned out. I would definitely recommend Deckorators to people if they want to have a deck installed.

I have done program/project management for many years. When it comes to developing a product, we always concentrated on three things - Cost, Schedule, Performance (i.e. product). We would always say "you can have it good, fast and cheap; but you can only have two". I took this view into our project. So, let me comment on those three areas.

Cost: Deckorators was one of three bid we received.  Deckorators was the only company that fit our budget and gave us what we wanted.  They were 20% less than anything else we asked about. We were a bit reserved about that - you sometimes get what you pay for. But, that never was an issue. We signed a contract for a deck, for a set price, and we assumed we would receive what we asked for. And, we did

Product - We LOVE our deck. We met with Jon Parsons in late February 2015. We described what we wanted, and he drafted plans for what we outlined. They were exactly what we wanted, and we signed a contract soon after. We had to have a concrete patio removed (they did) and had a VERY large Trex deck installed. We wanted river rock under the deck; that was done. The deck we wanted was all Trex, with all posts wrapped. That was done.  They put more posts in than was required, since we wanted to add an outdoor enclosure later on.  All the lights and electrical outlets were installed.  As I said up front - the deck we envisioned and was presented - we got it.

The patio removal - it was a big project. What looked like a standard patio took 5 days to remove. And, they worked EVERY day. With jack hammers.  They needed 2 dumpsters to haul it away. They removed it all by wheel barrow.  It was NOT an easy task. But, they did it. There were 3 WM bags that had to be hauled. They did that too. And, they were able to preserve our brick and sump pump irrigation without fault. The left the area looking great. Was some grass in disrepair? Sure! That is to be expected with the amount of work they did. I don't care about that.

Also, we had a couple of issues that we noticed, things that we had discussed upfront. They were rectified immediately and without complaint. That was appreciated.

Schedule - this was the one issue of contention, and it didn't need to be.  When I asked Jon how long it would take to install the deck, he told me "5 days". I didn't believe it, not will I ever.  I told him "tell me it'll take 3 weeks, that's fine".  He stuck to his 5 days.  In the end, it took 23 days. Am I upset? Not in the least! I knew it would take longer. It took 5 days to tear up the existing patio (it was like a pillbox on a hill in WW2).  We lost days to weather. We lost days to inspection.  We lost days to waiting on material. We lost days to the workers having other things to do. That's par for the course.  Ultimately, we got our deck done. Done right. Done as we expected it. And, done in 3 weeks like we assumed it would be done.

Lastly, let me say this, something that I told Jon.  We lost all of March to weather and needing to get HOA approval, which we knew we would. We're not unsympathetic to that. Finally, we had approval in mid April, along with a property survey. Then - nothing. No conversation. We reached out via text and email, and got little in response. It made us very frustrated. I told Jon about this on several occasions. I understand that he's busy. The one thing I would recommend to them - be honest and up front with your customers. If you're going to lose days to weather, material delivery, holidays, other projects - say so. If you're busy and can't get back immediately, that's ok too.  Just be up front. I think a lot of reviewers are giving them poor reviews because of lack of communication and unrealistic expectations.

Deckorators did a wonderful job of giving us exactly what we envisioned. It took awhile, but with anyone contractor that's to be expected. We had to keep in contact, but that wasn't as frustrating in retrospection as it was at the time. They met our budget. The final product is outstanding and passed inspection immediately. Their workers were polite and professional.  I would do work with them in the future, without hesitation.

"Excellent job cleaning house siding, front porch, sidewalk, driveway, basement steps, gutters, and windows in/out, including screens. Santos and teammate arrived timely, were friendly and courteous, and worked efficiently around the house to complete this job. They performed quality work on all portions of this large project. Highly recommend a&c services and would hire them again."

"Painters arrived exactly on time and accomplished all tasks the same day. The manually stripped the deck and applied two coats of stain. They carefully cleaned and then painted the foundation concrete as it had got dirty over the years. They also scraped, caulked and painted a large bump-out window off our living room.

"Travis and Chris were a delightful team, arriving on time, staying with the job, and completing work as promised.  Even though I was at work during most of the job, Travis communicated routinely on email regarding status of the job. Also, Travis and Chris were careful not to recoat the deck during two days when rain threatened, and it did rain. I was surprised on how much sanding and prep work was accomplished before they applied the stain, but every home handyman knows 60-80 percent of the time associated with any repair or maintenance is in the preparation.  Three coats of stain were applied and work was completed on a Saturday, as Travis wanted to take advantage of good weather before the threat of rain came back into the forecast.  In addition deck re-coating, Travis repaired several spots on the underneath patio at minimal cost.  The price of the job was extremely fair - 50% paid before the work started and the balance after completion.  We would not hesitate to call on Graham Restoration for future work.

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Because adding a deck will yield a higher property value, you may have higher insurance costs. It’s important to follow the codes and regulations set by your local and state governments, so your insurance rates can be properly calculated. You may need an insurance revaluation after your deck is completed. The best course of action is to speak with an insurance professional to understand how adding a deck will impact your home’s insurance costs before you begin.

Yes, deck footings typically require an inspection before laying down concrete. While not all local building codes require footing inspection, proper placement ensures a safe and structurally sound deck. An inspector will verify that the deck can adequately hold what you put on top of it., and that the footings have been dug to the correct dimensions.

The best direction for a gate to swing depends on its location and purpose, but swinging inward is the general rule. An inward swing is often considered safer, prevents the gate from opening into public spaces like a sidewalk, and may be required by local building codes.

There are exceptions and specific considerations. If your property is on a slope, an inward swing might not be possible. For a deck gate, it's safest to have it swing away from any steps. In a backyard, the direction can be a matter of preference, though an inward swing can be helpful when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

Regardless of direction, ensure the gate can open fully without hitting any objects or blocking spaces. While an inward swing is standard, a gate that can swing both in and out offers the most flexibility if your setup allows for it.

Yes, you can attach a deck to a mobile home, but it’s important that the work be done correctly to avoid the potential for major damage to your home. Many building codes require that any additions to mobile homes—including decks—be either freestanding or have their own support structures. Getting permits may require submitting the home's original floor plan, the proposed floor plan, framing details, and more.

Building a deck is often worth the investment, not only because it provides more utility to your yard and gives you more space to entertain but also because decks tend to add value to your home. Keep in mind that second-story decks often require concrete footings, which means they will bump up your property taxes, while decks built on the first story generally don’t require a permanent foundation and won’t affect your taxes. Even with the tax increase, decks are usually a good investment in the long run.
