"Aldridge Enterprises provided meticulous customer and technical services throughout the deck building process. I conducted a best value proposal evaluation to select Aldridge over three other quotes from reputable contractors. Aldridge, represented by its owner, Fred, provided a comprehensive, fair, and fixed-price quote that exceeded my expectations in terms of value. Aldridge used much higher quality products than competitors quoted for a much more reasonable overall cost. Sure, I could have paid more for less, but why would anybody do that? My homework paid off and Aldridge further proved that I made a very wise decision selecting them as my contractor. Fred is the consummate professional and remained fair, focused, and flexible from the initial quote to completion. He quickly earned my trust and confidence and retained it throughout the process. The two on-site “craftsmen” who built the deck, Justin and Mike, were the most professional, technically competent, and thorough contractors I have ever hired. From digging the footing holes to final County inspection, Justin and Mike maintained an exceptionally professional decorum, kept me informed of progress, and represented the absolute best in technical and customer service. I could not be happier with the final product and the entire project was incredibly successful and pleasurable throughout. Amazing work Aldridge Enterprises! Thank you!"

We chose the red brick design and they got It done efficiently and very quick with no problems at a very affordable price. "Very well. Work was scheduled over several days to meet our complex schedule and was completed according to the schedule. Painting crew was very professional and did excellent work. Owner of GS Custom Remodelers visited each morning, was always available for consultation, and inspected and approved all work. On several occasions he directed the crew to retouch areas I had not noticed. His prices were not inexpensive, but he was worth every penny we paid and then some. I recommend him highly, have used him on more than one job, and will use him again."

"Two By Four Construction did an excellent job designing and building the front porch that my wife and I always wanted. The crew showed up as promised and were prepared. They kept the worksite clean and safe. Gary kept us up-to-date on the work and deliveries. that he had scheduled. The quality of the work was well beyond our expectations. I would highly recommend Two By Four Construction LLC."

"Talha is amazing! He contacted me within the hour of my request and we scheduled a time for him to come by and tackle a couple of things. Well, he came and put together a new desk, two bookcases, hung curtains and mounted a TV. Superior work! He’ll be back soon with one of his team members to take on a couple of projects, including building out two closets. I’m so glad we connected! He’s definitely my go-to handyman!"

"Tristan showed up promptly, described what he wanted to do, and was a great sounding board for future projects. We will be using Soss' Services and Tristan for many more projects to come. I would highly recommend at least giving them a call for a quote for any housing needs."

"The work went quite well and as advertised. I rated the price as fair because they were not the lowest cost option. However, the blend of thoughtful consultation, design and professional installation made the slightly higher cost worth it."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

If you remove a load-bearing wall to create an entrance to a carport or covered patio, you can expect to pay between $3,200 and $9,500, with an average cost of $6,400. Factors such as the type of addition and if that area needs additional work will add to the price.

Yes, you can find ceiling joists using simple tools if a stud finder isn't available.

Using a hammer requires patience and a keen ear. Gently tap the ceiling in a grid pattern, listening for sound changes. A hollow sound indicates space between joists, while a solid, dull thud suggests a joist. Mark the location with a pencil and confirm by tapping from different angles.

Alternatively, you can use a nail, but this method will leave small holes. You'll feel increased resistance when the nail hits a joist. Mark the spot and repeat the process every 16 or 24 inches to map the joist locations. This method is considered less reliable than using a stud finder.

Most load-bearing walls are exterior, though they can also be interior.

Duration varies by project size, but average-sized homes typically take a weeks.

Begin by analyzing the blueprints and gathering the proper materials before framing a house. With the prep stages behind you, begin by framing the floor of a house on the newly set foundation. Exterior and interior walls come next, along with rough openings for doors and windows. Contractors will then add ceiling and roof rafters to finish things off.
