Have used Joe twice now, most recently to replace fallen drywall in a garage ceiling, align hallway doors, and install updated molding on my entry doors. Excellent, quality work -- he also provides excellent advice on how to approach a repair. Works quickly, cleans up beautifully. Highly recommend.

We hired Joe to build some built-in bookshelves into the knotty pine-lined walls of our basement. We couldn't be happier with the work he did. The bookshelves look beautiful, are very functional, and are exactly what we wanted. And his rates are very reasonable. What's more, Joe was an absolute joy to work with. He was very communicative about the project and provided a valuable pre-project consultation. He was incredibly pleasant and professional. He provided helpful advice, and helped us to work through the various options that would work in our space. We would absolutely love to work with Joe again and highly recommend him.

I'm editing this review to respond to the provider's comment "This lady was very rude in little comments she made to me - she kept it up so I told her I would not be interested in any future work - I am not obligated to work for people who are rude and snippy with me and do not appreciate my skills or time - she needs to work on her people skills I am afraid and I do not have time to wait". We hired Joe about a year ago to do some minor work on an exterior doorframe. It went fine. I just reached out again to have him come back to look at additional projects. He is so busy right now that it was very difficult to schedule him to come for a quote. After two weeks of calls and emails, he finally just told me that he has decided he won't come out for a quote after all. I responded, politely enough, with my frustration about the waste of time in having so much back and forth, to end that way. He just responded, also politely enough, but now saying he is not ever interested in coming to do work for us again. Soooo he just blackballed me permanently, because I'm frustrated he's ghosting me on a quote appointment? OK. Super weird and unprofessional. Just like I was really surprised by those actions, I'm also surprised that he is now saying I was "very rude." I'd love to hear any examples of that. Here is one of my "rude" emails -- when he wasn't available for a date we hadn't been sure about: "That's fine. Hopefully we can schedule soon. This is a lot of emails/calls already, and we are both busy folks! Cheers, [my name]" That apparently prompted him to decide not to come for this quote after all. He was polite enough about it, as I said. My (very rude?) response: "Thanks for letting me know. That's frustrating, as I feel like I've wasted these past two weeks in trying to schedule this. But nothing to be done about it. Thanks, [my name]" And THAT (?) is what prompted him to say that he won't have time to do any work for us in the future? Ultimately, yes he did seem to do good work for our minor job a year ago. And I get that he is busy and he gets to make his own decisions about who to work for. But I'm busy too, and I don't appreciate contractors who waste my time. And I really don't appreciate insults like "she needs to work on her people skills." Again, I'm just confused about the weird and unprofessional turn this all took, seemingly out of the blue. I wasn't planning to write so much here, and if Joe responds again to have the last word, then sure thing. Good luck to you, sir.

"This lady was very rude in little comments she made to me this time and the last time when I did work for her - I remembered her from before - she kept it up so I told her I would not be interested in any future work - I am not obligated to work for people who are rude and snippy with me and do not appreciate my skills or time - she needs to work on her people skills I am afraid and I do not have time to wait -- I think it is quite obvious why I do not want to work for this person with the ranting ....... and if she remembers correctly , I was ready to come by on a Sat. ,emailed her , waited 2 days ,got no reply , called her and she said she had not gotten back to me yet because she was debating whether to go camping with cicadas or not .....but she forgot about that I guess ...so who was wasting who'[Member Information Removed] time ? Good Luck to you Madam...."

We were very pleased with Mr Cox’s services, and strongly recommend him. He was professional, punctual, and communicative throughout the process, and his skills and hard work made the project come together on time, on budget, and as promised.

We highly recommend Joe Cox as a handyman. We couldn’t be happier with his work. Not only does he do excellent work, but he’s extremely clever in coming up with solutions to just about any problem. Added to all that, he’s very pleasant and hard working.

Joe installed the backer board and Joe recommended Eric Tolman to install the shower and floor tile supplies that I provided. I had checked with two other companies where one never returned my call and the other had a "ballpark estimate that was out of the park". Eric and his two other workers appeared on schedule and worked steadily until they were at a stopping point on the first day. The second day was much shorter with only wall grouting and floor tile setting. The third day was even shorter with floor grouting only. In my opinion, they did a great job. The best part of the work was when Eric saw the mural during his estimate walk-thru when he explained how to get the mural tiles out of their frame by soaking them with water for a day otherwise they would break. He did a great job!!! Without his assistance, I would still be carrying and cutting drywall and brushing dust off myself. Even as a homeowner with some skills, Joe's years of experience and skill in the business make quick work of a difficult job that you might consider doing yourself. He makes every move count for the finish of the work. I learned a lot from his expertise in that he will be called before the next phase of the project begins. Also, the three pocket doors looked like a "1,000 piece" puzzle that took him mere minutes to lay out and install precisely--no gaps at the edge, and trim neatly ready for painting. All I needed to do was buy 2x4s and drywall and stay out of the way... JAH

I found Joe on Angie's list with hundreds of 'A' ratings. I had all the hardware in place so all I needed was the expertise. Joe installed the lock and latch, but I am not writing this for the simple job that was done. Joe brings more to the table than your average contractor. He tinkered with the plates and catches so that the door smoothly swings shut and latches. There is no "put your shoulder against it in winter" or "you have to twist it just so..." He took the extra time to make sure the job was done up to 100% Not mostly done Not kind of done Fully done, I have a secure, sharp looking latch and lock that I wanted when I began. He could have just installed the hardware and left, but he didn’t, and I am happy to recommend him to friends and family.

Joe is always extremely professional and his work is very high quality, with very fair price. He is also very receptive to my ideas when I want something custom.

Mr. Cox is very good at all that he does. Our job required a great deal of patience because it was full of furniture etc. and required many short visits to finish the job. He works fast and is very thorough using his experience from years in the trade. We will have him install some custom bookshelves that he will make from his own design later when we finish the painting.

The work went great. Joe was straightforward with his pricing and kept to schedule. He was punctual, thorough, considerate, and gave great attention to detail. There were a few changes I made along the way and Joe was very accommodating. Some changes he performed at no cost and others were performed for an additional cost that was reasonable and in line with his original quote. He is my first choice for any type of carpentry work.

Great! Joe is an excellent craftsman who takes a great deal of pride in his work. He is very professional, has all the necessary tools and more, and is a good communicator to boot. He comes out to the house to look at what we want and talk over the options. He returns with a contract which he honors to the letter - no surprise added on costs. He has worked for us four separate times this year and we will definitely call him if we have further carpentry or handyman needs. Nice guy of the old school who does all his own work.

This is the second time we have used Joe. He does excellent work, has all the necessary tools, is very professional and punctual, and is friendly and easy to work with. He explains everything, offers options and design ideas, and writes a professional, easy to understand and comprehensive contract. He cleans up very well after each day of work. He has many years of experience and knows exactly how to handle each little problem or quirk that arises, like door frames with out of whack angles. We recommend Joe - he is a real craftsman.

Joe does excellent work. He is a self-described perfectionist and it is true. His work is of the highest quality while at the same time his prices are reasonable. He does all of the work himself. He returned our call very quickly, estimated the job with an on-site visit and presented a comprehensive contract. He is very experienced, has all the necessary tools and more, professional and punctual. He is a good communicator, explaining everything to us and offering alternatives for us to consider. And he is a nice guy too. We recommend him and will definitely use him again as needed.

We had a rental home that was occupied for 5 years. When the renters left the house was in such poor shape that we had to remove the kitchen, all 3 1/2 bathrooms and all of the flooring. We decided to completely renovate and move into the home after such a large investment. Accordingly, the "rental grade" finishing were upgraded, we moved walls and generally did a job comparable to "Flip or Flop". The home was in Fredericksburg, Joe is in Burke.
When I originally called Joe we hadn't spoken in a few years but he remembered me. He doesn't usually drive to Fredericksburg but I paid him extra to get him to go out there (a 2-3 hour round trip drive) because I trusted him and his work.
This is the thrid time we have used Joe for general carpentry work. This time it included building all new walls and drywalling as well. Joe is a true professional - he has very high standards for himself and his work reflects those standards. He communicates effectively meaning there are no surprises - if there is an extra charge he did not quote for he tells you up front. His prices are all inclusive so you will not get extra/hidden charges when using Joe. His prices are very reasonable for the quality of work he performs - he's not the cheapest or the most expensive. He is very clear and careful about making sure the materials he uses are of the first quality.
Joe is the only contractor that has the code to my home and I trust him implicitly. I cannot recommend him highly enough. He's coming back to do more work after our floors are in - he will be installing wainscoting and shoe molding.

Joe is great. He obviously prides himself on trying to be a curmudgeon (and fails). At the same time he REALLY likes doing woodwork and does a great job.
He does an excellent job for a reasonable price. If you are looking for a quick job at a cheap price, go to another provider, you will probably just p*** him off. But if you are willing to pay a reasonable price, he will give you great results.
But the details. I called Joe and made an estimating appointment. He showed up 10 minutes early and measured. He sent me an estimate via email. I called and accepted and he scheduled the work about 2 weeks later. He did call after a week and ask for an extension for some other emergency. Since it was a week out from the start, it was easy to accept.
He then called and re-scheduled the work and showed up about 0720 for two days and did the work. He finished on time. He brought, and used, cardboard to reduce the mess. He left the kitchen immaculate each day.
He was good with our dog, even keeping her in the yard when she discovered an opening. He blocked the opening and called and told us about it.
Highly Recommend.

Mr. Cox was such a pleasure to work with. Joe finished building the cases over a year ago and we've been happy with them ever since. Everything looks the way it did when he was done with the project and we are still really happy with the way the book shelves have turned out. It took Joe about 10 days to two weeks to complete the work and the schedule had been previously agreed to. In fact Joe was particularly meticulous about making sure that every little detail concerning the work, the schedule or the end result had been agreed to before he began.
We have since contacted Mr. Cox to get a quote for another (small) project. Joe was punctual and easy to work with. Although his quote was once again competitive, for financial reasons we decided to complete the work on our own.
I am hoping we'll have a chance to work with Mr Cox again in the future!

From the first contact by phone, appointment for the estimate to the day of work, Joe was on time, detailed and thorough. We had all of the materials so the $400.00 was labor only. He did a beautiful job and we could not be more pleased. I am delighted that we found Joe. Looking forward to checking additional projects off the list with Joe's assistance!

Over the course of time and multiple jobs that Mr. Cox has done for me, I've developed a deep appreciation for his attention to detail and knowledge of his craft. I have developed a trust in him and his work and know that I will be more than happy with the results. I've often joked with my wife when calling her from work and said "I can't wait to see what Mr. Cox has done today". He is very efficient with his time, communicates better than any contractor I've ever dealt with and is as honest as they come. He breaks down the work to be done in his contracts in a way that is easy to understand. His prices are competitive and in my opinion, very honest which are a reflection of his integrity. I have happily referred him to friends and family in the past, all of whom have had nothing but great things to say about him. I am a very handy person myself and am very critical of work that is done for me so speaking so highly of others is not something I often do but when you are this good at what you do, I believe people should know. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about Mr. Cox.

Joe was very helpful and completed the work in about a week. I plan to call him back for a bookcase. He does really nice work. His pricing was in-line with another estimate I received and I was satisfied with the price.
