"This lady was very rude in little comments she made to me this time and the last time when I did work for her - I remembered her from before - she kept it up so I told her I would not be interested in any future work - I am not obligated to work for people who are rude and snippy with me and do not appreciate my skills or time - she needs to work on her people skills I am afraid and I do not have time to wait -- I think it is quite obvious why I do not want to work for this person with the ranting ....... and if she remembers correctly , I was ready to come by on a Sat. ,emailed her , waited 2 days ,got no reply , called her and she said she had not gotten back to me yet because she was debating whether to go camping with cicadas or not .....but she forgot about that I guess ...so who was wasting who'[Member Information Removed] time ? Good Luck to you Madam...."
Joe has the patience of a chess master. He built two bookcases for us into our basement using a quick sketch and the tools of an experienced master carpenter. His plan had to be modified to fit the usual oddly configured spots and unlevel floor. I've finished their primer coat and these cases are built solid like rocks--they will never move.
Before selecting custom cabinets, we looked at several commercial sources that were wildly over priced or had delivery times measured in months. Joe is a treasure!!!!
With a few measurements and a check of his and our schedule, he made his quote and put us in his queue. The rest happened like clockwork. All he required from us was power for his tools and a space in the garage to cut the lumber.
We have recommended him to our neighbors who have asked.
We will use his services again.

It was a pleasure to work with Mr. Cox on our fireplace remodel, custom bookshelves, cabinets and fireplace mantle project. He has great ideas and recommendations to get the most out of the project. Joe is a great craftsman and did a fantastic job with all of the woodworking that was required for this job. He had a nice point of contact when it came to the tiling portion of the job and it turned out great. My wife and I could not be happier with the way the entire project came together. We recommend Joe Cox to anyone that has a custom woodworking project.
Joe always kept us updated on the progress of the project and made sure to communicate with us when there was a decision to be made. Joe gave us a fair price to do the work and he was very efficient with his time. He made significant progress each day he came to work. Joe always made sure to clean up after each day and was a genuinely nice guy to work with. We would use Joe again for future projects.
When I originally called Joe we hadn't spoken in a few years but he remembered me. He doesn't usually drive to Fredericksburg but I paid him extra to get him to go out there (a 2-3 hour round trip drive) because I trusted him and his work.
This is the thrid time we have used Joe for general carpentry work. This time it included building all new walls and drywalling as well. Joe is a true professional - he has very high standards for himself and his work reflects those standards. He communicates effectively meaning there are no surprises - if there is an extra charge he did not quote for he tells you up front. His prices are all inclusive so you will not get extra/hidden charges when using Joe. His prices are very reasonable for the quality of work he performs - he's not the cheapest or the most expensive. He is very clear and careful about making sure the materials he uses are of the first quality.
Joe is the only contractor that has the code to my home and I trust him implicitly. I cannot recommend him highly enough. He's coming back to do more work after our floors are in - he will be installing wainscoting and shoe molding.
He does an excellent job for a reasonable price. If you are looking for a quick job at a cheap price, go to another provider, you will probably just p*** him off. But if you are willing to pay a reasonable price, he will give you great results.
But the details. I called Joe and made an estimating appointment. He showed up 10 minutes early and measured. He sent me an estimate via email. I called and accepted and he scheduled the work about 2 weeks later. He did call after a week and ask for an extension for some other emergency. Since it was a week out from the start, it was easy to accept.
He then called and re-scheduled the work and showed up about 0720 for two days and did the work. He finished on time. He brought, and used, cardboard to reduce the mess. He left the kitchen immaculate each day.
He was good with our dog, even keeping her in the yard when she discovered an opening. He blocked the opening and called and told us about it.
Highly Recommend.
We have since contacted Mr. Cox to get a quote for another (small) project. Joe was punctual and easy to work with. Although his quote was once again competitive, for financial reasons we decided to complete the work on our own.
I am hoping we'll have a chance to work with Mr Cox again in the future!
