Customers say: Quality work

"OUTSTANDING! Cannot recommend any higher! Great job from start to finish . Repaired three fence gates in preparation for pool opening May 1. Very professional. Provided prompt response to bid request. Gave estimate, said he could take care of the following week. Gave $500 deposit and he came back when he said he would and took half day to do the work. The repaired gates operate better than when the fence was originally built: I guarantee it. He said I owed him $650.00. He and his associate got $750.00 cash from me and I’m not sure the $100.00 “top” was enough. But, that’s all the cash I had. Hire this guy. If he says he can do it: he can do it. P.S. Miguel, your DeWalt battery charger is still on my front porch….."

"I needed a new fence installed in the backyard of my house. Though another company also responded I chose Lucas Renovate & Repair. Mr. Mark Lucas responded quickly to my posting. And came to my house the same day to talk and survey the area. The other company called, sent me a link to a google map of my backyard and asked me to trace (draw) my fence and upload it to their site. Then after someone review the uploaded images, I'll get a call from a Project Manager to schedule someone to survey my backyard. Really? I like in person conversation when it comes to conducting business for my house. The price Mark quoted me was cheaper and the quality of work was outstanding. He used a lot more cement than needed to set the new fence posts. And here's the best part, Mark torn down my old fence and everything with it. And installed my new fence in 2 weeks all by himself. Yes. . . just him. Throughout the whole project Mark kept me informed about everything. I will definitely hire him again."

"Provider was suppose to return and finish laying sand on the patio. Since job was very close to complete, I paid him rather than wait. I never heard from him again. The sand has since washed out in spots and another provider is correcting the situation with polymeric sand. Other than the sand issue, the patio looks good in the way it is laid out. Provider was punctual, and the project went very fast considering it was in the middle of the winter.

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Privacy fences in residential neighborhoods tend to stand between 6 and 8 feet tall, but local building code usually dictates the maximum height. Livestock fences that border large land plots range from 3 to 6 feet. Shorter, decorative fences, which are common in front yards, are around 3 feet tall, on average. Fence height also tends to vary by material, with wood fences usually sitting at 6 feet tall, and chain-link and wrought iron fences tending to sit at half that.

While power washing isn't a requirement before you stain a fence, it can make the job much easier and faster while reducing manual labor requirements. The stain will not work if the wood is full of dirt and dust, so power washing, sometimes called pressure washing, is a fast and effective way to prepare the wood for staining. Remember that you need to stain or repaint relatively soon after the wood has dried so that there isn’t time for dust and dirt to build up again.

Both nails and screws are common in fence construction, including on pickets. Some builders prefer to use nails when connecting the pickets to the rails and screws when connecting the rails to the posts. However, the best option usually depends on the type of wood fencing and the variety of wood you choose.

A silt fence should be buried in a trench that is 6 to 12 inches deep. A depth of at least 6 to 8 inches is necessary to prevent water and sediment from running underneath the fence. A deeper trench, up to 12 inches, provides better anchoring during wet and windy weather. To ensure proper installation, look for a red line on the silt fence fabric, which often indicates the correct burial depth. Always adhere to local guidelines and regulations; a professional contractor will be familiar with these requirements.

Regular cleaning, rust-proof coatings, and checking fasteners help prolong the lifespan.
