"We are incredibly pleased with the work done by York River Outdoors LLC. They exceeded our expectations, and we believe their work deserves to be showcased in TV commercials. We would not hesitate to hire their younger team members again. If you need decking, fencing, or handicap ramps repaired or installed, we strongly encourage you to contact them. "Mark along with the crew arrived on time to install a wooden privacy fence with walkable gate enclosing my backyard. After Mark went over the project, the crew removed the old fence, organized the materials, and systematically completed each task. A few more workers joined the crew, eventually leaving two to finish the job. By the end of the day, they were finished and cleaning up. I appreciated being consulted on site about clarifying my preference concerning the gate instead of doing “what’s standard”. Also, Mark was available by phone to answer a question, and came by the next day to go over the project with me. He even took care of a minor detail himself on the spot."

Customers say: Quality work

"OUTSTANDING! Cannot recommend any higher! Great job from start to finish . Repaired three fence gates in preparation for pool opening May 1. Very professional. Provided prompt response to bid request. Gave estimate, said he could take care of the following week. Gave $500 deposit and he came back when he said he would and took half day to do the work. The repaired gates operate better than when the fence was originally built: I guarantee it. He said I owed him $650.00. He and his associate got $750.00 cash from me and I’m not sure the $100.00 “top” was enough. But, that’s all the cash I had. Hire this guy. If he says he can do it: he can do it. P.S. Miguel, your DeWalt battery charger is still on my front porch….."

"Fast efficient. They made a total yard clean and disposal of debris look easy. They did total yard weed kill and put down pre-emergent. They are coming back to touch up weed kill if required. I will call them anytime I need help in my yard. Excellent work."

"We highly recommend Steve Phillips. He has fully remodeled one of our bathrooms, replaced our barn roof, put a roof on our pergola and repaired two of our skylights. We were absolutely thrilled with the results of all of the projects. His quotes are reasonable, he's very thorough, easy to reach by phone, completes the projects in the estimated time frame and leaves the project site impeccable upon completion. Steve is top-notch very trustworthy and we look forward to working with him again on future remodeling projects."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

The best wood for a farm fence is pressure-treated wood that will stand up to various weather conditions, animal contact, and moisture. Farm fences need to resist rot and damage, so choose a species such as cedar or redwood. The natural oils in these woods give them decay resistance, which also makes them ideal for other fence types, such as a wooden snow fence.

You can use soil and gravel instead of concrete when setting fence posts. However, concrete is more durable and longer lasting, so it's worth considering if you want your fence to withstand the test of time. You should especially consider concrete if you live in a region that experiences severe weather, which can damage your fence.

Paint your fence, install customized fence slats, or attach a bamboo screen for a more appealing yard aesthetic. Paint can give your yard a unique and fun look, and adding fence slats gives you a classic fence appearance. Bamboo screens are probably the most unique option that can add a fun vibe to your space.

There’s no definitive answer to this question because dog owners and experts are conflicted about the efficacy and morality of electric fences. However, physical fences are typically considered a better option since they provide guaranteed containment for your pup, provided they are tall enough, and your dog can’t dig under them. Physical fences can also provide privacy, which might stop your dog from barking at people or animals walking by. Physical dog fences tend to be more expensive, but most homeowners find them to be a better option overall.

There are many types of wood fencing that you can choose from. For split rail fencing, the most common wood types are cedar, pine, black locust, and chestnut. The best wood for you will depend on if you like the way a certain wood looks and the availability of the wood type in your area.

Most of the wood types you can find at your local home improvement store are good choices since they all have rot-resistant properties or are pressure-treated with pesticides. If none of the wood options speak to the look you’re going for, check out vinyl fencing.
