Dear Angie,
This is to complain about National Termite Company. I have been with this company since June 2001 and it was good service until 2013, when in the preparation to do repairs to my garage door, I found evidence of termite damage. I called National Termite to come out and do an inspection.
They said I had to remove some vinyl siding to do an inspection; I called them back when I had some siding removed. The inspector determined that there was termite damage, but that he would have to go back to the office and talk with his boss, several days later they got back to me and told me that their report showed that I had wood in contact with the ground, and therefore they would not do any repairs. I did not have any wood that touched the ground, and I argued that the termites had climbed up the brick wall and the drywall to get inside the house. They said their treatment was a barrier, and I told them that their barrier didn?t seem to working, and that therefore they should pay for repairs. They said no.
Not wanting to haggle with them right now, I decided to have the repairs done now. The company I hired gave me a price to replace the vinyl siding, (I decided to replace the vinyl siding vs. putting the old siding back on) and the tentative price to do repairs for termite damage.
Upon removing the vinyl siding and gain a better look at the damage done by termites, it was ultimately decided that the repairs would take eight sheets of plywood and 199 foot of two by fours. Their cost to me was 3,223 dollars, which is what I asked to be reimbursed.
I sent National some pictures and told them there was no active termites when repairs were done. They said that was good and it showed that their product stop the termites, I said then why do I have all this damage.
REBUTTAL TO COMPANY RESPONSE:
1. Their claim of a dead tree stump, there was never a dead tree in my yard, in their reports they never stated anything about a dead tree.
2. The moisture damage they keep referring to is called dry rot, but what I have read termites don?t like dry rotted wood.
3. The active termites that were found were tunnels of mud up a brick wall, and a sheetrock wall (not wood). This tells me that termites will try to get into your house even if it is not with wood touching the ground.
4. October 08 this company gave me a termite and moisture letter, which stated no visible evidence of wood destroying fungus, was observed, and that no visible evidence of wood destroying insects was observed.
5. The door jams were never in contact with the cement slab, they were at least 1 inch above the concrete.
6. All of my windows were replaced in March of 20O8 by Mr. Rogers windows Inc.
7. They say the damage could have been there since 2001, but the majority of the wood that was damaged look like it was new wood, not wood that had been aged for 12 years with a light brown color of aged wood.
8. They said I needed to do proper maintenance to maximize efficiency of the warranty, I say that with the known termite infestation of the Tidewater area, that I should have received more than just granules sprinkled around the house and spot injections over a period of 12 years.
9. I did not threaten a bad review, I said I would post a bad review on Angie?s
10. If they cannot reimburse me for repairs, then a refund of 12 years of payments 90.00 x 12 yr.?s =$1080 and initial treatment cost $675 = $1755, would be acceptable.
