"The gentleman who came out and made my key at 9:00 pm which was a lifesaver. I live in Bracey Virginia and I had been trying to find a locksmith to come out and make a key after 10 calls to locksmith everyone of them said we donâ t serve that area even though the companyâ s I did call were in South Hill which is about 15 minutes from me. Luckily for me I found this locksmith and he was very friendly called when he was on his way and called when he arrived. I will definitely keep their number in my contacts and pass it along to my friends. I am very satisfied and grateful to them for being so professional and getting the job done. So thank you to the gentleman who came out and did this for me!"

"After calling several companies that said they would be several hours from the call, this company was able to be there quicker than the others. My daughter had locked herself out of the house and needed to get back in and we were not around to help her so we called this locksmith. He did the job quickly and my daughter was able to get on with her day. Thanks for being honest, quick, and reliable.

"The locksmith technician Larry was right on time and did the required work within an hour. He is a pro at what he does and you could tell from his work ethos. Plus the Angie's List discount coupon was honored as well.

".Chris  came to my house in about an hour after I called.  He assessed the situation and fixed the problem in about 20 minutes.
The door latch was loose and extremely hard to open. He removed the latch, assessed the problem and had it in working order in a very short time.
I have called on him in the past and highly recommend him to anyone who needs a locksmith.

"I picked Pop-A-Lock from Angie's List as they had high ratings and I'm glad I did. They were all very professional. The technician, Emanuel, did his best to fix the lock before informing us that it needed to be replaced. He stopped over a couple of times to try different methods of fixing the lock before noticing that a spring was missing and the lock mechanism had finally worn out. The replacement part was it's own price so I will not hold that price against the company. I don't have much experience with locksmiths and their pricing but I thought it was a fair price for the work that was required. I'm happy to have worked with Pop-A-Lock and would recommend them to anyone should they need their services."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

As with any computer, smart locks can be hacked by someone with the technical skills to do so, but most people do not have that ability, making smart locks relatively safe. If you have any concerns about a compromised smart lock, opt for an encrypted smart lock, change your Wi-Fi password, and make sure that you only give out your password to trusted family and friends.

Yes, with better technology now available, it’s possible to add a smart lock on your sliding glass door. Smart locks can be easy for almost everyone in the family to operate and can connect to other safety features in the home, like smart lights. Plus, they’re harder for would-be criminals to pick. However, keep in mind that smart locks can potentially be hacked, and some completely rely on phones or Wi-Fi, which can be an issue if the power goes out.

Whether or not keyless door locks are safe and trustworthy depends on the visibility of the programming code—and a trespasser’s determination. Even if you carefully guard entry and programming codes, those trying to break in may be able to crack open the lock’s faceplate with a screwdriver and change the codes. The same goes for manual models.

Some find smart locks the safest option because it’s harder to manipulate codes without access to your phone. But it’s possible to get hacked even then. Consider installing an extended security system, like door and window alarms or surveillance cameras, to enhance security.

When the temps drop, sometimes you need to thaw a lock to regain access. Options include warming the key with warm water, applying a de-icing spray, or using a hair dryer on low heat. Avoid using boiling water to prevent damage. To prevent future freezing, consider installing a cover or shield over the lock to keep water and ice out. Remember to be patient and gentle during thawing to avoid damaging the lock or key. If all else fails, consult a professional locksmith.

There are many types of deadbolts, but these tips work on most. First, address any grime buildup. A bit of WD-40 will loose up rust and dirt so the deadbolt can turn. Inspect the door and frame alignment if this doesn't resolve the issue. Adjust the strike plate or the deadbolt's position to improve alignment. If the problem persists, disassemble the lock to inspect for damaged or worn parts. If you are unsure how to do it, hire a local locksmith.
