"It was hard to rate this service. There were positives and negatives. I normally handle my own plumbing problems, but I'm getting old and crawling around to do plumbing is getting to be a problem. In this case, I had a problem that I was having trouble with and thought a professional might get it done with less collateral damage to the faucet. I assumed that a plumber would have better tools and some experience with my faucet (not a common model). Neither of these were true, and the lack of sufficient tools and supplies caused my low rating. I had already diagnosed the problem, so what I got was a good plumbing assistant with strong hands and a good back. I supplied some of the tools and supplies, and he made the repairs under my supervision. My problem got fixed, but it took a long time. On the positive side, the plumber was a hard worker and very personable. Furthermore, the charge was reduced based on my helping with the job, so I got a reasonable value for the visit."

"My wife and I are very, very pleased with Tidewater Pro Build’s remodel of our master bathroom, and we are not the easiest customers to please. We had discussed a remodeling project for several years but it became a necessity when our master bathroom shower developed a leak that started to stain and drip through the ceiling of the room below it. After two different plumbers could not find the source of the leak, we knew something drastic had to happen, and that is where Tidewater Pro Build comes in. I called and left messages with several contractors and posted inquiries on several contractor websites. A few of them ignored my requests. One contractor said that most of his men lived in Virginia Beach and would not want to drive as far as Suffolk for a job. Tidewater Pro Build responded to my website inquiry in the middle of a Sunday morning. Frank, the Sales Manager said that when he saw that we were having a leak through the ceiling, he knew the job was urgent and wanted to make contact as soon as possible. Frank met with us later that day and just a day or two later, Tidewater Pro Build was at our house to troubleshoot. They had to take down the drywall around the shower to find the leak, but once it was isolated and the living room ceiling dried out, they did a beautiful job in repairing and painting the ceiling. We did a total makeover of the bathroom. Frank made some design recommendations during the initial walk-through planning. We met with Trey and Brian to develop our design and lay out our plans. Along the way, Trey made several very helpful suggestions that kept our supply costs under better control. He recommended strongly that we stick with one line of plumbing fixtures to ensure that the finishes matched throughout the room. Trey offered a very creative solution to our problem of where in the bathroom to relocate the linen cabinet. The demolition phase went very quickly. The rebuilding phase proceeded much more slowly, as they predicted it would. Quality work takes time. We needed the job completed by a wedding-date deadline, before out-of-town family started to arrive. And even though, about a week before the deadline, it looked like the project would not be finished, we had a fully functional master bathroom in time for the wedding. It was not a rushed patch-job to get the project finished; the last phases of the job were done as carefully and with as much craftsmanship as the earliest. There were a few touch-up items that needed to be addressed after the wedding and those were done on schedule. When we found a few more add-on punch list items we wanted fixed, Tidewater Pro Build did not hesitate to come to our house and correct them promptly. Sales Manager Frank even came out to inspect the project when it was completed to ensure our satisfaction. This is the kind of customer service anyone would want from their home contractor. We now have a beautiful, designer-quality, custom master bathroom that is one of the prettiest rooms in the house and one of the nicest you will ever see. I will forward photographs to Tidewater Pro Build to post on their Facebook page when we have all the furnishings and décor in place. There are a few already. My wife and I would not hesitate to use Tidewater Pro Build for our future remodeling projects. Thank you Trey, Caleb, Brian, Frank, and Kevin!"

"Erik Quam and Titan Construction worked two major projects and a few minor jobs - all went extremely well. Bottom line up front: Highly recommended and I would engage Erik again for other major work without reservations. First they removed a sunken hot tub from our 16 x 20 sunroom floor and placed it on our rear deck. The hole in the floor was covered including floor joists and sub-flooring. They removed all the existing ceramic tile, placed new underlayment and retiled the floor - all work on all projects was completed by Titan with the exception of moving the hot tub electrical panel from the sun room the the deck(completed by a licensed electrician). They repainted the entire sunroom which was no easy task(19 casement windows, 2 doors, 2 custom windows and vaulted ceiling). Sunroom - A+ | |The other big job was the Master Bath. Here they removed a jetted tub and separate shower. They removed all old ceramic tile - the double vanity and sinks were the only things left in place. Erik framed a new huge custom shower and plumbed in an amazing Kohler shower 'system' with 3 wall sprays, a shower head and a separate wand. The best! His crew installed new underlayment and re-tiled the entire bathroom including floor and walls to the ceiling - the tile work is perfect! New huge Kohler medicine cabinets were installed flush at each sink and new lighting throughout the bathroom. A new American Standard toilet was installed - a major improvement over the 'contractor grade toilet' that frequently required a 'double-flush'...never have double-flushed the new toilet! Extremely happy with the entire job. Erik's crew also repainted the kitchen and a guestroom. Some other minor jobs were completed as well. The price included all materials, some quite premium. The bathroom tile was expensive as were the medicine cabinets and the valve set so accounting for these costs - the price was very competitive. Master Bath - A++! Erik did not provide computer modeling to visualize the project - a service some other contractors provide. Erik needs to improve his method for invoicing a job. The invoices were not the easiest to read but his accounting as the jobs proceeded was accurate. Last note, a large acrylic glass block window in the master bath was regrettably damaged during the bathroom renovation - Erik engaged a respected regional window contractor to replace the window at his cost. The window was replaced in a timely and professional manner. I'm sure this significantly impacted his net profit on this job but he took responsibility and made it right without question - an honorable act that I appreciate greatly. I cannot say enough how pleased we are with Titan and recommend them without reservation."

"They were in did dimmo and fixed behind the walls, new plumbing by a master plumber, built the new shower. I was allowed to watch and take any pictures I wanted. They cleaned up better than I handed it over to them, and they were gone in a day. It looks great."

"Two plumbing projects: install a whole house water filter system at the main water line and install a utility sink in the garage (install drain line, cold/hot water lines). The estimate process went well and very good price for work to be done. The estimator took detailed notes and pictures of the project area and material to be installed. The project was scheduled for two weeks after the estimate. Received a call in the morning of scheduled service stating I was the second call for the plumber assigned. Received call and text about 30 minutes prior to plumber showing up. The plumber assessed work and had to depart twice to get supplies. Completed the whole house water filter (replaced existing piping and valves, and installed new pipe and valves), and installed utility sink drain line, and installed cold water line, but did not install a hot water line, and said he would come back next day to finish. At noon the next day, I sent a text asking when he would be at my house and the company dispatch called and said the next opening would be next week. I am happy with the work and price, but the delay in completing work is a little frustrating. At least I can use the utility sink, cold water only, but it works until they can get back out to finish the job."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

National emergency plumbers usually have greater availability to address emergencies because they have more professionals at their disposal, but local plumbers may be located closer to your home and can arrive faster. We recommend contacting one or two local plumbers first to see how quickly they can arrive. Move ahead with the service if it’s within a reasonable time frame. If not, contact a national company to see if they can get out more quickly. National companies sometimes outsource work to third parties, which can often mean faster response times.

If you've discovered a rather frightening buildup of brown and black gunk below your shower cover, you're not alone. The smelly sludge is often a collection of mildew and biofilm. Biofilm comes from the breakdown of soap scum, hair, skin cells, and bacteria that collects during shower time. It's quite common in a humid space and relatively easy to clean with a gentle DIY cleaning solution such as baking soda and vinegar.

Yes, a water leak poses a major fire risk at your home because water is a conductor of electricity. Water that comes into contact with sparks or electrical wires can instantly ignite flammable materials. Additionally, any type of exposure to water can cause wires and other electrical components within your home to corrode. When assessing categories of water damage, it's important to know that even a small amount of moisture near wiring could cause sparks that lead to a fire.

The average lifespan of plumbing ranges from 20 to 100 years, primarily determined by the pipe material. For example, PEX piping can last 80 to 100 years, while copper and cast iron pipes have a lifespan of 50 to 100 years. Other materials like CPVC, brass, and steel typically last between 50 and 70 years, and galvanized steel pipes have a shorter lifespan of up to 50 years. The longevity of any pipe material is also affected by factors like soil acidity, extreme temperatures, and proper maintenance, which is crucial for ensuring a long service life.

If the drain is frozen, the pipes connecting to the washing machine are likely frozen. If the hot water trick doesn’t also unfreeze the washing machine pipes, you can gently apply heat with a hair dryer on the lowest setting. Start at the end of the pipe closest to the faucet to prevent pressure from building in the pipes, and make sure the faucet is open to drain the water as it melts.
