"Why be stingy with your stars?! I would give them 10 stars if I could! I scheduled a visit with AquaRight, a couple of years ago. Mr. Naim Bey arrived on time, was neatly dressed and very professional. He meticulously tested the water in my home and provided me with his assessment of its condition. He patiently answered my numerous questions and then carefully and honestly explained my options. I subsequently chose a Whole-House water treatment system. Mr. Naim determined the best location for the system and returned to supervise its seamless installation. Ever since that time, I have been enjoying drinking, cooking, and bathing with my clean, healthy water. AquaRight is praiseworthy because not only did they do an exceptional, stress-free installation, but they have serviced my unit as promised. It has worked wonderfully and with a 25-year warranty, I am not worried. I highly recommend hiring AquaRight if an outstanding product and reliable service is important to you."

"First, I want to say how great it was to work with Advanced Water Systems of NC-VA. As a general rule, I always source at least 3 different quotes to see the different products, services and costs for each company. I’m this case I compared Moody’s, Rainsoft, and Advanced for my water softener and whole house filtration system. ADVANCED by FAR exceeded both other companies; performing a full inspection of the applicable plumbing and identifying not only the equipment I needed but customizing the plumbing required to maximize my overall house efficiency. All this with the added cost to come with it. Both Rainsoft and Moody’s sent salesman to our house. ADVANCED sent a plumber. The difference was HUGE. As someone who works with chemistry and water analysis, I was very happy at the technical expertise that Jeremy provided. Our discussion made it easy to see that Advanced was the right company, with the right equipment, cost, and customer service for the job. Also, they offered 0% financing which the other 2 companies did NOT; making a job like this way more affordable for those on a budget. About a week later, 2 plumbers came out to my house at around 0930 and by 1330, were showing me how to use my brand new water softener and whole house filtration unit. They even replaced the plumbing in my crawl space. I was so pleased, I bought them lunch!!! The water quality in the house is now fantastic! My family and I couldn’t be happier! HIGHLY RECOMMEND ADAVANCED WAYER SYSTEMS NC-VA!!!"

"Trevor solved the problem with our shower drain pipe. We consulted a lot of plumbers before him but they could not figure out what to do and so overpriced. Trevor worked on it on the spot. He is great! 5.0 is not enough. TRPlumbing will always be our go-to company for all our plumbing projects or issues."

"Spoke with Chris about the issues we were having with our water. He provided an abundance of information and options. He scheduled for the install the very next day and we couldn’t be happier with the work and professionalism of Paul, the technician assigned to the job. We would recommend them to anyone when asked. Thanks again Chris."

"For the last two years, I have signed a yearly contract with Sweetlands to do a twice-a-year check on my heating and air-conditioning service as well as On-Demand Gas Water Heater.....fall check before I use my heating system and spring check before I use my AC system. Each time, the service associate has been on time, courteous, friendly and very knowledgeable when answering any questions I may have. I've even had Judy show up to perform the bi-annual check once! As I mentioned previously, I had a bad experience with another company that led to me switching to Sweetlands. On the first check done with Sweetlands, the service representative found a flaw in the previous company's work that could have resulted in a dangerous event and was definitely costing me more money from an operational standpoint. So, the switch to Sweetlands literally paid for itself with my first visit! I definitely believe that Sweetlands is a great local business, and I intend to continue my association with them in the coming years. My annual maintenance contract covering twice yearly cleaning, maintenance and check of all three of my units (Heating, AC, and On-Demand Gas Water Heater) is $374/year."

"Repairer came very soon after called, was quite professional in his analysis of the problem. He gave us the information we needed to determine that the repair was too costly.  He offered to apply the cost of the visit toward installation of the dishwasher we would buy.  We planned to use that, but the new vendor offered installation at a lower price.  We plan  to use this business when we need appliance repair in the future.

"Lee was great! He realized I had no water working after a jack-leg repair by another "plumber", so he came back at 8:00 pm and worked until 2:00 am to get everything fixed. I definitely recommend Russell's!"

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

Experts recommend that you put two to four bags of potassium chloride in your water softener every month. This amount depends on how much is in the bag (40 pounds is most common) and what your water softener manufacturer recommends. For more specific advice, talk to a water softener pro in your area and read the manual that came with your system.

Yes. To get soft water, you can install a water softening system, which will replace the calcium and magnesium ions in the water with sodium or potassium ions. Water softeners cost anywhere from $200 to $6,000, depending on the size and complexity of the system. You can either install a water softener for the whole house or just at your shower heads. If you’re sensitive to sodium or potassium, you can install a salt-free water conditioner.

A water softener is a worthwhile investment if you live in an area with hard water. While hard water is safe to drink, it contains minerals like calcium and magnesium that can cause significant problems over time. These minerals build up inside pipes, reducing water flow and eventually corroding the plumbing system, which can lead to leaks and a shortened lifespan. Hard water also damages fixtures and appliances, potentially resulting in costly repairs. Additionally, it makes soaps and detergents less effective, meaning you'll use more product to get things clean. By installing a water softener, you can prevent these issues. The initial investment is often recouped through long-term savings, including lower energy bills, reduced appliance and plumbing maintenance, and spending less on soap and cleaning supplies. Other benefits include cleaner linens, dishes, and clothing, as well as softer water that is gentler on your skin and hair. In some areas, a water softener can also increase your home's value, making it a valuable long-term investment.

The most effective way to fix hard water in your shower is by installing a whole-home water softening system. This system treats water as it enters your home, removing the minerals that cause hardness before they can reach your shower or any other fixtures. While this is the most comprehensive solution, other methods are often temporary fixes. For a more affordable and shower-specific option, you can install a water-softening showerhead or a shower filter. However, these filters are generally less effective and may not remove all the contaminants that lead to limescale and hard water stains. By implementing a water softening solution, you can expect a reduction in mineral deposits and enjoy the benefits of cleaner-feeling hair and skin.

Most of the U.S. has hard water, especially across portions of the West and Midwest. The areas with the hardest water include parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Illinois, North and South Dakota, Ohio, and New York. You’ll find soft water in parts of New England, the Southeast, the Pacific Northwest, and Hawaii.
