"They went above and beyond when we hired them to build a deck for our hot tub. They not only built the deck for us but also helped us move the hot tub (which was not easy) and get all of our perments in order."

"Tracy called us immediately after requesting a quote. He took his time to understand the problem and was available immediately to come take a look at the door. Tracy assessed the damage around the frame and recommended putting installing a storm door after making repairs to entrance. He was very knowledgeable, professional, and took his time in making the repairs and installing the storm door. He was also kind enough to pickup the storm door we ordered from Lowe’s. Price was great and the work was clean and excellent. Would definitely recommend Tracy for any job. Thank you very much for working with us especially that we were dealing with you from another state."

Small jobs welcome

"Mr. Davis was very fast, efficient and completed my project, a deck extension, on time. He did a great job of keeping me up to date on the progress of the project from start to finish. He even completed the project in a little less time than first projected. He not only made sure he found matching paint to the current deck, but also left the can he used for future reference, in case I want to have the paint job touched up in the future. Thanks for a Great and Professional job!!"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

There are approximately 5.33 board feet in a 2x4. You can use the board foot calculator in this article to easily find the answer. A 2x4 is 2 inches of thickness by 4 inches of width, so you need to find the length, with 8 feet being the most common. You’d use the calculator here to multiply 2 times 4 times 8, and then divide by 12, arriving at a total of 5.33 board feet.

Homeowners can increase the usefulness of their garage space in other ways, and one option is to extend the length of the garage by making it deeper. The process is similar to traditional garage extensions, but the end product is a garage with a different layout rather than additional parking spaces.

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.

One of the most common house framing basics for decades has been using wood for the framing work. However, some framing contractors now suggest using steel frames. Steel is lightweight, resistant to fire, and resistant to moisture, all of which are areas where wood framing could cause problems. However, steel framing is more expensive than wood and limits your ability to insulate the home.

It’s best to use two screws to secure deck boards into every joist. Securing the boards to every joist makes the deck more structurally sound, while using two screws on the outer sides of the boards can help prevent warping and cupping.
