He analyzed the situation and recommended snaking out the floor drain. After that, the problem still existed. David said the problem was probably with the main sewer line running from the house to sewer in the street. He removed the toilet in the basement bathroom and ran a larger and longer snake into the sewer line. Upon completion of that process, he ran a special camera down the line as far as the street. The final 20' or so of the line was still clogged with old grease and other debris. He then ran a "jetter" machine in the sewer line which blasts the line with very high water pressure to clear out the final clog. He had to do this four or five times. After that he ran a camera down the line one more time, and it showed a clear line all the way to the street. Davide said the grease buildup had probably been there for 15 years or more. Anyway, the entire process took about 3.5 hours, but we are now assured that our sewage line is completely clear. As always, David, his helper (Argardo), and Greg (the owner) who was also present, were all professional and courteous. This is an absolute FIRST-RATE company and we will certainly use them again for any future plumbing needs. Well, no one gets out of sewer line work for cheap. Quality is the key. And Long's is your answer. They came, they snaked, they dug. It cost a lot but I'm much happier having forked over my hard-earned cash to professionals like Sherry, Teresa and the crew with confidence than to the sketch dudes proposing bids 30-40 percent higher. We've had a several major crappy sewer line problems totaling almost $30k. So, I'm now almost a certified expert in line clearance and repair. I wish I'd called Long's three years ago. We've called emergency plumbers several times, each charging a minimum of $400-600 to snake , unclog debris and run a camera. When the BIG problems (tree root damage) came into play, excavation was required at $6000 (those rates can go up quickly from there based on pipe length and complexity of the dig). This last incident was a collapsed orangeburg pipe BEYOND the previous full sewer line excavation and replacement from 18 months ago. Arrgh! This required a $19,000 excavation below the street and sidewalk?.tacking on massive costs for permits and asphalt replacement. Long's took care of it end to end. Long's showed up for a non-emergency snake, camera and estimate the day after I called. Sherry went above and beyond two previous companies' efforts, breaking through the clogging debris AND clearing hefty collapsed pipe debris further down. She marked the damage spots and got measurements for an excavation estimate. Her work cleared the line well enough to get another month of regular use before the big dig would start. So huge points to Long's for having experienced personnel and good customer service going above and beyond. The dig was designed to minimize displacement and costs. Two deep holes were made (yard and street) then the crew burst out the old pipe while feeding new replacement pipe in. All done in a day. The alternative to this approach would have been a massive, deep 10-16' ditch. A secondary paving crew arrived later to do a VDOT-required finished pave -- a massive part of the expense. Overall, this was a totally professional and courteous crew. The intrusion was minimal. I can't say enough good things about Long's. They did a lot to ease the pain of this kind of major work. [Note for home buyers and Fairfax County residents: This work occurred in a 1950s-era development. Every month, someone in the neighborhood is replacing decayed or tree-crushed orangeburg sewer pipe. We did not think to inspect the sewer line as part of our home purchase inspection. Knowing what I do now, I'd demand it for any future purchase of a home older than 25 years. Also, In most every other place in America, the county/city takes responsibility for sewer lines at the sidewalk and beyond. in Fairfax, the HOMEOWNER is responsible for the ENTIRE sewer line from the home to the sewer main. Again, another hard lesson of homeownership in NoVa. I hope this helps someone else!] "},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/va/fairfax/long%27s-corporation-reviews-350116.htm"},"position":6},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Thomas E Clark Inc","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"VA","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Elliot W."},"reviewBody":"We were having a problem with sewage backing up into the house. This ended up being a big problem, with flooding and gunk backing up into the house [the problem would ultimately be diagnosed as tree roots growing into our sewer line]. Thomas E. Clark first sent out a plumber to do an initial check, and once he determined that we needed to send a scope and snake into our sewer line, he called a drain technician to come out. The drain technician who came out was incredibly nice and professional, but completely misdiagnosed the problem the house was having. No need to get into the weeds of his diagnosis, but after scoping the sewer line, he made what turned out to be a pretty basic error in identifying where the clog was. Sure, people make mistakes, but based on the faulty advice we got, we had to have technicians from the city come out that night (on an emergency call ), only to tell us of the error made by the plumber and that in order to have the problem fixed, we'd have to have the plumbers come right back out to diagnose it properly. I then called Thomas E. Clark to come back and take another look at the sewer line, to catch the problem that they missed the first time, and ultimately give me an estimate as to what it would cost to fix the problem. (Mind you, this will now have been a third visit from Thomas E. Clark, and by this point we had paid them about $700 -- and still had not gotten an estimate to fix the actual problem.) Here's where we had the biggest problem - the third guy to come out (Joe, who I believe is one of their managers) suggested that there was a chance that he was going to bill us again for the company's services if they were to take off our toilet and scope the sewer line again. By even making that suggestion, he failed at a basic principle of providing services - when one of your subordinates screws something up and you have to send someone more senior in to clean up the mess, you do not hold the client responsible. I then had what can only be described as a ridiculous conversation (for about ten minutes) with Joe where we haggled over whether I would have to pay another $600 or so for him to look into the sewer line again. They ended up not charging me for the visit, but that we even had to have that conversation was absurd. Then, two more problems. One, for what ended up being about a $10,000 job, his estimate was just scrawled as about two sentences at the bottom of an invoice - no substantive details about the work they'd do, or of the actual cost breakdown. For such a big project, it was perfunctory at best. And he was also incorrect about the permits we'd need - he suggested that we might need a $3,000 permit, which would be our responsibility -- this turned out to be inaccurate. The plumbers we ended up going with explained the permitting issues much better, and handled them all for us. The folks at Thomas E. Clark were all reasonably nice people and I'm sure they're wonderful plumbers, but after this experience, they came off as careless and a bit sloppy. They kept me informed of each step of work they did along the way. There were some things that happened during the excavation that they could not avoid, and they were pretty conscientious. Once they got down to the sewer line they kept us with sewer and water every night, which sometimes does not happen. They were conscientious with small kids. When they did the repair they pulled out the permits and all the licenses that were required and worked with the DC government really very well. They made sure that the repair that they did was done with the right speck as there was a good grade going through. You need a certain degree of drop from the house to main sewer so that it worked properly. They even repaired a piece that was underneath the pipe that was also in the wrong angle. They went above and beyond in finding and correcting everything with no extra cost. They supported the line appropriately. They back filled so that when it collapse there is no problem. They refilled the whole empty lines well. There were big pieces of rock and concrete that involves the filling. They put them on the side for disposal. They were excellent. I found a pipe and I did not open it or uncover it and when they came to put the camera down they said that it was sewer line. They picked a section of the pipe by hand and said it was an old cement pipe that was crumbling and I told them that I really thought that my pipe should have been cast iron. They said no that it was my sewer pipe and put the camera down the street and showed me where it was collapsed which it was. We were going to talk about replacing that section of sewer line and in the process of calculating that they said how are we going to hook it on to this the other end of the terrible crumbling pipe. They asked me if was sure that the pipe was good back the other way and I said yes because the guy put the snake down and he said it was good. They put the camera the other way and showed me where it was collapsed and when I flushed the toilet the water did not come out from the pipe. They got me to agree to replace the full pipe and that day they dug up the concrete under the porch and the pipe was cast iron and came back the next day and dug up towards the street and that part was cast iron too. There was a blockage there and they cleaned the blockage from there to the street and dug there to replace the pipe. I asked why was it cast iron at both ends and the cement stuff in the middle and the sub contractor that was going to pull the pipe through the middle and he said that the pipe up there is not my sewer pipe and I went in and flushed the toilet and the water came out. I asked them to stop all work and to bring the camera back and put it in my real sewer line and it took them about an hour and half and they brought the camera and out in the pipe and took it all the way back as far as they could take to the bend. There were no collapses at all in the pipe and there were only 2 tiny little roots and there were absolutely no collapses or problems in any of that area. I told them that I had a huge problem now with the area that was dug up that did not need to and they had gotten me to sign to replace a pipe that did not need replacing and that I was extremely troubled by this whole thing. They assured me that they would be back on Tuesday and replace the pipe, so the owner or the company said he would rework the whole contract and that I would be much happier having a new pipe. The guys showed up with their equipment on Monday morning to replace the pipe and I told them that they were not working. I have pictures of the real sewer pipe and the pipe that they told me was my sewer pipe. I have sent them e-mails and we have gone back and forth and I have a lawyer that has written them a letter to try and get my money back. I had to pay another contractor and plumber to come and complete the work to close up what they had done. They were late on both mornings they came to work."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/va/alexandria/john-c-flood--virginia-reviews-6385739.htm"},"position":10}]}

Woodbridge Plumbing Inc has been in business since Tom and Anne Kreutzer started it in 1973 in the basement of a house on Occoquan Road with just one plumber, Tom. After three years Tom hired his first employee, David McCullen, who stayed with him until Tom and Anne sold the business in October, 2006. As the business grew, it moved first to a rented space at Canfield Industrial Park for nine years, and then to the current office and warehouse in Telegraph Road Business Park in January, 1987, across Telegraph Road from the back of Target.
"AV was extremely helpful, put in the time to get everything right. And when I had a further question after the repairs, he called me back promptly. The office staff also has been unfailingly helpful and responsive."

The best way to confirm that your main sewer line is clogged is to hire a professional plumber to assess the situation and use a camera to inspect the inside.
In most cases, drain cleaners will not clear a clogged sewer line, and they’re likely to damage your plumbing. Sewer lines are several inches wide, meaning any material that clogs it will need to be large. Drain cleaner can work on small clogs, but it usually won’t clear a larger one in a sewer main. Drain cleaners can also easily damage and corrode your plumbing with prolonged contact, and a clog will keep the cleaner in contact with the pipes for an extended period. Hire a professional sewer cleaner instead for a safe fix.
You should not attempt to snake your sewer yourself. Accessing and snaking your sewer requires heavy-duty equipment, and while renting is possible, misusing it can damage your sewer main and leave you with very expensive repair costs, not to mention potential environmental issues and severe water damage. Accessing your sewer also exposes you to hazardous sewer gasses, and failing to seal the sewer properly after work can be very dangerous. It’s always best to hire a professional sewer cleaner near you to handle this type of work.
