"Terence came out today for my slow kitchen drain. We have had problems with it in the past and discussed the previous issues with him. He gave me my options from snaking the current setup to replacement of different sections. We went with replacement of larger segments of our older pipe and Terence included clean outs for easier access if we ever have problems further down the drain in area that we didn’t replace. He came out right away and did a great job. I’m very happy."

"After Hours Home Improvement built a roof structure over the porch at my front door. Reid and his team are everything you would want when you hire a contractor. They started the job precisely when they said they would, and they worked continuously every weekday until the job was done. And, at the end of each day, they cleaned up the entire work area. The workers were first-class: friendly, professional, highly skilled, and took great pride in the quality of their work (that last quality is quite hard to find these days). The finished product is absolutely beautiful and looks like it is part of the original build of the house. I am very pleased now to have a roof structure over the porch to protect package deliveries. Also, it is worth noting that I worked as a licensed engineer in the building construction industry for 40+ years, so, I have seen it all -- the good, the bad, and the ugly. These guys are very, very good!! One last comment -- the foreman, Walter, has been with After Hours for 16 years. Hence, this company takes care of not only its customers but also its people."

"The original project I hired them for was to replace leaky faucets in both the kitchen and bathroom. Frank, the owner, was responsive and professional. They scheduled the work promptly and showed up on time. Unexpected issues were discovered that required a second trip and additional work. They communicated everything clearly and the additional costs were handled separately and transparently. They also cleaned up after the work was done. I would hire them again."

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

You could be smelling sewer gas in your kitchen because of a dry P-trap, clogged vent pipe, or leaking plumbing seals. If you smell a rotten egg odor, check your sink’s P-trap and plumbing connections first. A clogged or damaged vent pipe can trap sewer gas and push it back into your kitchen through the plumbing pipes. Loose or deteriorated seals around drainpipes can also allow sewer gas to leak out. If you can’t find the source, call a local plumber for expert help.

Homeowners insurance usually doesn’t cover sewer backups because it’s typically an avoidable problem with proper maintenance. The only exception would be if the backup is occurring because of local flooding and only if your city uses a combined drainage system for stormwater and sewage. If that’s the case, your policy should cover any resulting damage.

One way to save money on sewer lines is to install a sewer cleanout since it makes sewer line maintenance easier. Keeping up with maintenance is key to reducing the cost of repairs, so be sure to schedule annual plumbing inspections, install drain guards to stop objects from accidentally falling down drains, and only flush human waste and toilet paper to protect your pipes.

In the majority of cases, homeowners insurance will not cover a main sewer line root clog. The reason is that most insurance companies consider tree root damage to sewer lines as common wear and tear, which is also preventable. However, you may be able to buy optional add-on coverage, such as "service line coverage" or "sewer line endorsements," that would protect against root damage to your sewer line.

Professionals use augers, hydrojetting equipment, and cameras for precise clearing and inspection.
