"Thanksgiving Day is a time for family and friends not greeting the Fire Department at your front door! As we found out, all our alarms went off at the same time because the hot water heaters in the attic were flooding into them. Hence, a frantic call for a Plumber. We would like to give a big thanks to Duane and Kris at Bluefrog Plumbing for coming out Thanksgiving weekend to replace our leaking hot water system. They arrived promptly and were able to locate the issue and provide us immediately with a new system. Duane even suggested to change the way our system was originally plumbed to make it more efficient and last longer. Duane is such a nice, personable guy. We even thought our dog would be willing to go home with him. We highly recommend Bluefrog Plumbing. Thank you Duane and Kris, John Mizerik"

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Older faucet fixtures may have some corrosion, leaving them stuck. Try a few techniques to loosen the fixtures.

  • Wrap the fixture with a towel and tap the base with a hammer.

  • Use a putty knife to gently remove any caulk that may be holding the handle or fixture in place.

  • Apply a few drops of penetrating oil around the base of the fixture or around the nuts.

  • Purchase a faucet pulling tool to pop the fixture loose.

Yes, copper pipes can freeze, crack, and burst in cold weather. In fact, of all piping types used for plumbing, copper pipes burst most easily when frozen. This is because copper conducts energy and loses heat more quickly than other types of plumbing. Copper also won't expand when the water inside freezes. Instead, it bursts or splits to accommodate expanding frozen water.

Yes, before you can connect to a public sewer, you must gain permission from the water company near you. You'll also need to ensure that you comply with local regulations prior to connecting to a public sewer line. Apply to your local water authority by looking at their website for an application or by giving them a call to have your home ready for a seamless sewer line connection.

The standard size of a pipe for the main water line ranges between 3/4 inch to 1 inch in diameter, but ultimately, the size will depend on your household size and its square footage. Depending on the size of the property, the water line size can range upwards to 1.5” in diameter for a very large house nearing 10,000 sq. ft. Incorrect pipe sizing can lead to potential damages and leaks. To avoid incorrect sizing, consider getting help from a local plumbing professional who can help you choose the right size and material for your pipe.

Knowing the signs can alert you to a clogged drain line. Clogs cause slow drainage or cause no drainage (if there’s a complete blockage). You may also notice foul odors, gurgling noises, water backing up in other appliances on the same line, or a poorly flushing toilet. If you experience any of these issues and think your line might be clogged, call a plumber.
