"I had an issue with my water well over the weekend. J&S were first to respond and had a team here within two hours. Fault was fixed quickly and professionally. Only improvement would have been to explain the invoice to me."

"My good friend was offshore onboard a research vessel conducting oceanographic research. He received word from his HOA that his water hadbeen turned off due to a large leak outside his house. He contacted me to see about getting it repaired and having his water turned on. I called Action Plumbing and not only did they promptly schedule an appointment, but were happy to work with me on my friend's behalf. They even agreed to bill my friend and have him submit payment upon his return. Great job Action Plumbing!

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

You should not use a water conditioner with a water softener because a water conditioner changes the chemistry of the water and causes the ion exchange in a softener to be ineffective. Choose a water softener if you have hard water or well water, and use a water conditioner if you need to remove certain contaminants.

There are several things that can shorten the life of a water softener. Homes with very hard water may have to replace the unit sooner because the water softener works harder to filter out the hard minerals. High water usage and infrequent maintenance can also put more strain on a water softener.

Yes. To get soft water, you can install a water softening system, which will replace the calcium and magnesium ions in the water with sodium or potassium ions. Water softeners cost anywhere from $200 to $6,000, depending on the size and complexity of the system. You can either install a water softener for the whole house or just at your shower heads. If you’re sensitive to sodium or potassium, you can install a salt-free water conditioner.

Selecting the right system depends on testing your water to understand the contaminants present and considering your household's water usage and specific needs, such as removing specific contaminants.

Softener systems extend appliance life spans, improve skin and hair health, and reduce pipe buildup by removing minerals like calcium and magnesium.
