"Hired them to level one corner of an addition which was sinking and had broken the slab foundation resulting in a crack and non level floor in that corner. They jacked up the sunken corner and supported it with footings. I was generally satisfied with the work. However, the contract specified that they were to then come in and cut out a two foot trench (one foot each side of the ~15' crack in the slab), remove the rubble, drill in rebar to the two sides and refill the trench with concrete. After jacking up the corner, the two management level guys oohed and ahhed about how good the crack looked. They suggested that cutting the trench was not necessary. So, what I got was a guy spent a few hours grinding the two sides of the crack smooth in a few places and then pushing concrete into the crack. I was OK with that. However, that's a LOT of work they had just been relieved of and I felt a price adjustment was appropriate. That was not forthcoming. They charged me the full amount even though they did not have to do a big chunk of work they had signed a contract to do. So, despite what I felt was generally good work, I came away from the experience with a bad taste of "bait and switch". Be prepared for that if you hire them."

While heat pump water heaters are more expensive than gas-powered water heaters, the ROI is higher for heat pump units. Not only are heat pump water heaters more energy efficient, meaning immediate savings on your energy bill, but they also last longer than traditional gas versions, meaning you won't have to buy them as often.

Water expands when heated and also when freezing. When water is heated, it expands by around 4%. For a full water heater, this is one of the main reasons malfunctions occur—the hot water has nowhere else to go but out. Due to the constant expansion and reduction in volume, it’s recommended (required in most places) that an expansion tank be installed.

An average-sized empty water heater weighs around 150 pounds. Tankless water heaters are much lighter, weighing between 10 and 50 pounds. The smaller size and added convenience come at a price, though—tankless water heaters average about twice the price of their traditional counterparts.

While many older homes don’t need hot water heater expansion tanks, they’re necessary in most newer homes and are required by building codes. These tanks are required by code in areas where there are backflow preventers or pressure regulators on the incoming water pipe between the public water pipes and the water heater. However, tankless water heaters don’t require expansion tanks.
