"He found the problem and fixed it that same day! We had no idea that the problem was a pipe outside the house leaking until he took the time to find it. We were told by two other plumbers that the problem was in our bathroom and it obviously was not the problem. If we have any other plumbing issues he will be the plumber we call. He did an amazing job and we are extremely greatful!!"

"Beyond great experience. Great customer service. I originally was interested in tankless. Paul went over everything in detail. He had a better option. I will be using him as my new plumber. No fuss, no muss. Great overall experience. Highly recommend for any of your plumbing needs."

"As always, wonderful job! A+++++++ Quality work, fair pricing! We have been using Ben Franklin, for I think about seven years now :-) We will go with no one else. I’ll be honest, in our area, professional behaving plumbers, are actually quite rare to find. SAVE yourself! So you don’t have to experience substandard work, exorbitant bills, or upsetting experiences with RUDE, unprofessional business owners. We are in Georgetown, and never found a good fit for us with any of the companies down here.(we did not try all) At BEN FRANKLIN, EVERY single technician, receptionist, owner, or other employee that has ever helped us, has ALWAYS been friendly, respectful, professional, kind, helpful, and pretty much any other positive quality that you would want in a business and more importantly, the qualities of someone who you would come into to your home! A++++++"

"From the time we first called them until the repair was completed they were professional and timely.  We did have to wait several weeks as the part was on back order, but they came the day after the part arrived. Would highly recommend them.  I especially  like the way they email a picture of the repairman to you.

"Just moved to Myrtle Beach. The former homeowner highly recommended ARS to maintain the two Carrier heat pumps ARS installed. So we joined the PROS Club @ ARS. Very happy to learn that ARS also does plumbing and electrical. Weâ ve already used Plumber Alan to fix a toilet problem. Electrician Shane installed a whole house surge protector, installed surge protectors on both ACs and both air handlers, and installed a plug at the electrical box for a power generator. Electrician Bill followed up to investigate why certain lights flicker when the clothes washer agitates. All three gentlemen were professional, friendly, and clearly described how they would help us. The PROS Club reduced our costs and helped us receive help sooner. We are happy with our first experiences with ARS and highly recommend them. - Laura & Mark VanValkenburg, The Bluffs on the Waterway"

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Clean regularly with non-abrasive cleaners, avoid pouring grease down the drain, and check for leaks under the sink.

First, find the cleanout pipe in your yard. Unscrew the cap—you may need a wrench to do so. Then, get a drain snake. You can use a non-motorized one, but a motorized snake will make the job a little easier. Feed the snake through the pipe until it reaches the clog. Spin the snake continuously, but don’t try to feed it through the pipe anymore. Keep spinning until you feel it break the clog apart.

You can often identify a freeze-proof faucet by its structure. Unlike a traditional spigot, a freeze-proof one will include a long supply pipe that extends into your home and connects several inches back to your water supply. Many freeze-proof models also have an extra valve on top of the exterior of the spigot, which is the anti-siphon feature that protects against water backflow.

You can drain a hot water heater yourself as long as you take some safety precautions. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the unit before starting, let the water in the tank cool down for a few hours, and wear safety equipment to protect yourself, including heavy-duty rubber gloves and safety goggles.

While some building codes allow galvanized pipe for natural gas, it shouldn’t be used for propane. Propane can cause the pipe to wear down, leading to dangerous leaks. Instead of galvanized piping for propane, you should consider coated copper, black iron, or corrugated stainless steel tubing (CSST). For underground propane line installation, you can use polyethylene (PE).
