Yes, PEX pipes can burst from freezing. However, they tend to expand as the water freezes, so they are less likely to burst than other piping materials, like copper. Usually, the issue with frozen PEX pipes is that as they expand, this can cause leaks around the pipes’ connections. PEX pipes aren’t immune to bursting, so it’s best to prevent PEX pipes from freezing.
