The addition of TSP helps remove oxidation and ensure a strong bond between the surface and the base coat. The addition of soap helps the chemical mix stick to the sides, allowing it to be the muscle that works the surface and allows for an easy lower pressure rinse. My method of extensive prep start with proper cleaning. Trench Perimeter and protect surrounding areas, as needed with plastic and/or tarps. Paper may be used on concrete walkways. Wire brush rusty and/or exposed nail heads, both in the siding and trim/trim accents. Set the nail. Spot prime each set nail with Rust Inhibitive Oil Primer, twice. This will encapsulate the surface rust and not allow it to continue the corrosion process. Repair the set hole. Repairs should be made with exterior grade spackling compound or wood filler. Sand repairs until smooth. Spot prime said repairs with an exterior grade multi surface primer.
