"Jake, Wil and the whole team are as professional as they come. They have extensive experience on the commercial side, which brings a ton of expertise to the residential. Couldn’t recommend them enough for their professionalism and quality of service. They will show up on time, you will be communicated to, and they’re going to go above and beyond to get the job done."

"This is the fourth project that Distinctive Irrigation has been hired to do for my yard. They did my irrigation 3 years ago. Two paver patios 2 years ago. Last month they added a drip line zone for my new garden boxes that I built. And today they repaired my paver patios that my neighbors trees caused an issue with. Every project has gone smoothly (weather permitting) and every project the owner has been at. The crew is always professional and I value his opinion on everything I do when it comes to my yard. I'm an older female and I appreciate when I find a group of tradesmen who won't try to take advantage of me. Distinctive Irrigation has my loyalty for the great work they put into every project and how they continue to make my yard beautiful year after year. I've already hit him up for my Fall project, drain pipe installation. One of my coworkers hired him for that and had no flooding there after."

"These guys are the best!!! Gabriel came by to give me a free estimate on my tree, price was very competitive, and he was extremely professional. He gave me the quote and in less than 24 hours was back to remove the tree. Once they arrived they went straight to work and in under an hour it looked like the tree was never even there. I will only be doing business with Velasquez Landscaping form here on out. They have a customer for life. If i could give more than 5 stars I would!!!"

"They arrived on time, were professional, and cleaned everything up nicely. Since yard work had not been done for awhile they had to do more at this visit. They didn’t ask for more money though they definitely deserved it. So far I’m happy with my choice to hire them to do monthly maintenance. They are insured, but not bonded. I think that is fine for routine lawn maintenance."

"We wanted tree and driveway lighting.  Bruce (the owner) was responsive to our call and promptly scheduled an appointment to meet with us at dusk so he could show us what each of the lighting options would look like at night.  He brought samples of different types of lighting and we were able to really see what the different options looked like in action.  On the day of installation, the team arrived on schedule. They were friendly, efficient and cleaned up after themselves.   We had a small problem with the "dusk to dawn" timer and when we called Bruce he arranged to come out and replaced it.  We are extremely pleased with the products and the services of Greatest Scapes Landscaping and highly recommend the company.

"I love them. They are a little pricey, but I love them. Everybody else's yards has those little yellow dandelions in them. Not me. My yard is green. I don't have anybody else to compare the price with. I love them. They are too punctual. They would come and my car is on the grass. I have asked them to call me before they come so I can get stuff out of the way. I am very pleased with them."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

The soil around your foundation should slope down and away from your home, not toward it. If the grading drops the farther you are from your home, you can enhance the slope by removing more soil. Mark off a few feet from your house and dig up some of this soil. Regrading around your fountain should encourage water to flow away from your home and not collect or “pond.”

There are some instances when you can use extra drywall in your garden. Ideally, unused scraps of new drywall are best for amending soil without the concern of additional chemicals or mold. However, drywall with paint, mold, or potential asbestos requires specialized disposal by a professional and should be kept out of your garden.

You may need to lay sod on the areas you dug up once you get the okay from the contractor. It will take about 30 to 45 days for the sod to take root. Consult a local sod installer to get an accurate estimate of the timeline of your specific yard-enhancement project.

If you live in an area with heavy rain or you like the idea of an extra layer of cushion under your feet, you may want to consider adding additional layers under your grass. There are pads that are purely for comfort and ones that can help accelerate drainage for those heavy rains.

There are two main times of year to apply mulch: mid to late spring and late fall. Spreading mulch in mid to late spring helps protect new seedlings as the soil warms up. It's best to wait until temperatures are steady, as mulching too early in the spring can slow down the soil's warming process and hinder plant growth. Fall mulching is also beneficial, as it insulates the soil and helps regulate its temperature when the first frosts arrive.
