"Steve and Paul from Charleston Electric came promptly at scheduled time. Although I had stated over the phone that I had wanted specific projects addressed, but the time they showed up, I had made some changes. Steve and Paul adjusted with no problem and helped me to make decide what would be the best course of action. They hung the ceiling fan and lights with skill and efficiency -- I was impressed with how focused they were but at the same time friendly and polite. My four dogs were barking and it didn't seem to phase either of them. They completed their work in a little more than an hour, which I was very impressed by, and I was also impressed by the price which was very reasonable especially given the quality of work. I would highly recommend this company and especially these two guys Steve and Paul -- they were awesome!!!

"I called Mr. Electric to tackle a list of varied electrical jobs at our home- installing ceiling fans, changing out light fixtures, and adding dimmer switches to name a few. They went above and beyond on each task with great attention to detail. Very easy to communicate with. I highly recommend Mr. Electric!"

"We undertook a very thorough selection process of identifying what contractor to use for the project, and had a number of contractors come to the home to provide estimates (initial estimates were only provided for the popcorn ceiling removal and trim/handrail/baseboard project).  Commonwealth Contracting LLC was the most prompt, prepared, and thorough for this activity, and the quote came in at the lowest amongst the respective contractors.
Once an agreed starting date was set Commonwealth worked extremely hard in order to meet the ending time dictated by myself due to some visitors arriving.  The entire ceilings were removed and repainted within the span of one week, the crew worked many days with extended hours in order to make sure the timing was met.
Upon completion of the textured popcorn ceiling work we were impressed with the quality and timeliness of the work that we decided to go ahead with painting the wall/handrails/baseboards throughout the home.  Commonwealth was very accommodating to significant project scope creep and responded by stating the activity on the Monday following the request on the previous Friday.  The work was then completed by the following Friday.
Overall we were very please with the work Michael and rest of the crew at Commonwealth Contracting LLC did, the quality of work by the team was very thorough and met our very particular expectations.  They were very accommodating to work with us on various timing constraints, response to various inquiries, and was very good about communicating progress of the project (positive or negative), as apposed to us having to ask the questions.  I would highly recommend Commonwealth, and we will certainly use them for various projects in the future."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Whether you can install a ceiling fan yourself depends on if you're replacing an existing fixture or installing one where no wiring exists. If you are replacing an existing fan, an experienced DIYer may be able to do the job, which can save on labor costs. This work typically doesn’t require a permit, but there’s always a safety risk when dealing with electrical components, so hiring a pro is still a good idea, especially if you aren't handy. Keep in mind you may need a special ladder for high or vaulted ceilings. However, if you are installing a new ceiling fan where there is no current fixture, you must hire a licensed electrician. In most areas, it is required by law that a professional runs new wiring and pulls the necessary permits. Attempting to install wiring yourself can be dangerous and a code violation.

Most ceiling fans have a lifespan of anywhere from five to 15 years or 10 years on average. Just how long your ceiling fan lasts depends on the quality of the parts, how much it’s used, and how well you maintain it. A fan with a weak motor that runs on the medium setting nonstop is likely to have a shorter lifespan compared to a fan with a powerful motor that runs on the slowest setting for air circulation.

Ceiling fans can be a great way to cool your home without the expensive utility bill of running an air conditioner. Plus, ceiling fans can sometimes run in both directions, pushing hot air down in winter and pulling cold air up in summer. With that said, air conditioning might be the only thing that helps if you live in a very warm climate.

Fans not turning on, wobbling, noisy motors, or faulty remote controls are common issues requiring repair.

To convert a ceiling fan to wireless, you’ll need to install a canopy module to access the lighting and fan controls. Many options are available, all of which help you control specific elements of your ceiling fan, so you have plenty of choices depending on your needs.
