"John did a great job for me. I have an extensive outdoor low voltage system. Somewhere there was a short which was difficult to find. John took his time and through some trial and error, he found the problem. He also installed two new lights for me. He did a great job for us."

"Everything turned out fine. When it first arrived, it was damaged in the shipping. It took them quite a while to get something back to us, or even to call me back when I wrote to them. But then, once they got the ball rolling, it went very quickly. It took them probably about a month to even get back to me. The price was very good. Once somebody actually did speak with me, they were very responsive. They were pretty professional when I spoke to them. I just think that they were light on manpower."

"R&W Electric was always polite and very professional. It is very nice to see good people with a great work ethic complete a job on task and on budget. We opened up our kitchen and needed to move switch locations, outlet locations, new circuits, ceiling fans and added under cabinet lights. I am glad we hired R&W Electric and would recommend them to anyone."
Removed switch and outlets on this wall
The original kitchen before cabinet demolition. We moved the hood and range outlet and changed the outlet locations for the countertop height outlets.
We changed the location of the outlets and added under-cabinet lighting
All the wiring was removed from this wall.
We have placed the switches and outlets just ready for tile.

"Keith and crew did a great job on my backyard.  We were having some big water problems in our back yard and Keith and his crew installed a drainage system that will take care of it for good.  His plan was the lowest cost option of 3 contractor's that I interviewed.  When I asked him about the more expensive options that the other two had recommended, he defended his option and convinced me that even though his was the lowest cost, it was the best plan.
We also asked him to build a patio with a fire pit.  We had a rough idea of what we wanted, but no real plans.  He showed us a couple of different options and helped us pick the design that was best for our yard and budget.  At key points in the project, Keith got us involved and made adjustments as needed.  We are very happy with the end product.
Keith and his crew did a great job for us and we will be calling on him again with future projects.

Lighting questions, answered by experts

If your lights are shorting out during rain storms or other winter events, you should probably replace them. These shorts indicate electrical issues that could cause serious hazards. Look for outdoor-rated lights with connectors made for rainy conditions to replace them. But if your Christmas lights are new and you want further protection, you can find weatherproof covers to add to the male-end connectors of your Christmas light strings. These can minimize the risk of shorts.

Professional repairs involve diagnosing issues, replacing components, rewiring, or repositioning fixtures to restore optimal performance.

One possibility is that they aren’t getting enough sunlight during the day, which could be due to a lack of sunshine in your area or trees blocking the solar panel. Alternatively, if the solar panel is dirty or the batteries are dying, your solar lights might not operate at full brightness.

The five common types of landscape lighting are up-lighting, down-lighting, spotlights, built-in lighting, and pathway lighting.

  • Up-lighting casts light upwards from the ground, mostly for aesthetic purposes.

  • Down-lighting directs light onto the ground, lighting pathways, or outdoor space.

  • Spotlights cast direct, focused lighting in any direction.

  • Built-in lighting integrates lighting into an outdoor feature.

  • Pathway lighting illuminates walkways, increasing safety.

Your maintenance needs revolve around the type of foundation you choose, as well as how you furnish or decorate it. Patios require little else other than the occasional hose-down, but decks and other wooden structures will require annual power washing and sealing. You may also need to restain the wood every two to three years.

Adding a solid roof rather than building a pergola or leaving the space open will make maintenance much easier. Without a roof, you will need to spend more time sweeping, washing, and covering your furniture to protect it from UV bleaching.
