"Did a great job. Right on time, gave me a call beforehand. The actual time he took to install the water softener was just less than originally estimated. He was neat, courteous, and knowledgeable. I highly recommend him."

"I recently had the pleasure of working with J & O Plumbing, and I couldn’t be happier with the service! From the moment I called, they were prompt, professional, and courteous. They arrived right on time, quickly diagnosed the issue, and explained everything clearly before starting the work. The repair was done efficiently and with great attention to detail. What really stood out was how clean they left the area with no mess at all, which is always appreciated. Their pricing was fair and transparent, with no surprises. It’s rare to find tradespeople who are this reliable and respectful of your time and home. I’ll definitely be calling them again for any future plumbing needs and highly recommend them to anyone looking for honest, quality service."

"Steve was great to work with. Easy to talk to, understood what I wanted, knew what to do. Quality of the work is excellent. Price is very fair. I've recommended him to some friends who are also having issues with low water pressure in the City of Newport, RI. (we all live near the high point in Newport, so we get the lowest pressure).
I would recommend Steve and use him again.

"Did a good job. Took a little longer than needed. I am updating my review. The well pump replacement was done on September 9, 2020. I never received a Receipt that explains the work done. I made several phone calls and was told I would be getting one. I was always asked to except a phone text. I do not use a cell phone and they know it. Apparent Shamrock will not use mail or email either! My last call was strange because Quote ""Shamrock only is interested in well water for homes not lawn irrigation. I WISH I KNEW THIS BEFORE HIRING THEM."

"Replaced water softener valve hardware on existing system with new digital unit. Response was prompt, professional and courteous. Happy with results although I could have used more coaching in how to operate the valves digital controls. Valve was left in factory default settings without explanation of how to adjust it for my water softening requirements."

"All three jobs went great. For the water heater replacement Lewis came to my house at a convenient time for me, removed the heater changed out the rotted pipes and installed a new one with warranty. The price was great too. This job was time sensitive and he made me a priority to get it done. For the bathroom tub drain unclog he was very professional and did a great job. My garbage disposal was leaking and I came home to a pool of water in my cabinet and on the floor. Lewis came out quickly to resolve the issue for me. He replaced everything under the sink and showed me what he was doing each step of the way. I think that he is a great plumber if you want to get quality work and learn about each job too."

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

Hard water stains can be a headache because they will reoccur as long as hard water flows through. Thankfully, hard water stains are not permanent. With the right tools and an appropriate cleaning routine, you can prevent hard water stains from ever building up. However, you might feel like you are stuck in a constant cleaning cycle. In that case, you may consider hiring a contractor to perform routine cleaning.

Most of the U.S. has hard water, especially across portions of the West and Midwest. The areas with the hardest water include parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Illinois, North and South Dakota, Ohio, and New York. You’ll find soft water in parts of New England, the Southeast, the Pacific Northwest, and Hawaii.

Whether you need a license or permit for water softener installation depends on your location. Some municipalities require the installer to hold a plumbing license, while others may only require a permit and an inspection. In some cases, both a permit and a licensed installer are necessary, and some areas have no requirements at all. Often, only certified plumbers and electricians are allowed to pull the necessary permits. To find out the specific regulations in your area, you can contact your local building department. Alternatively, a local water softener installer or plumber will be familiar with the requirements and can typically pull the permits for you. Regardless of local laws, it is always recommended to hire a licensed professional to ensure the system is sized and installed correctly. You can use tools like Angi’s state licensing tool to verify an installer's license status.

Routine maintenance involves recharging the resin bed with salt or potassium, cleaning components, and periodic inspection.

The most accurate way to determine whether you have hard water is to purchase a water test kit from a hardware store or send a tap water sample to a lab. But there are some signs you can look out for without professional testing. For instance, if you're consistently dealing with mineral stains on your glassware, windows, and shower doors, you're likely to have hard water. Hard water can also make it harder to lather and rinse soap, so if you're struggling to work up a good lather in the shower, hard water might be the culprit.
