"Contacted S&S via Angies List to get a quote on some electrical work. Scott and his team were very responsive and helpful. It turns out that I did not use S&S for this work at this time, but I wanted to comment favorably on their customer service. Would consider them for future work and recommend others consider them."

"We completely lost power in our home just as it was getting dark on Monday night. I went to Angi and put in a request for an electrician. It asked if I needed to have a call right away and after saying yes I was contacted by Scott from Belcher Electric. I explained our situation and he asked where we lived. I told him and he said he was not far away and was picking up his dinner. He told me he could be here in about a half hour. He came right over and let me know the main on our electrical panel had failed. He told us he could get a crew right over and replace it for us as he did not want elderly people to be without electricity. We had previously had work done in August and were told we would eventually need to have our panel replaced. We were given a quote at that time but we were not in a position to cover that high of an expense. The quote Scott had given us was much lower and more in our price range, especially when he was going to come back with a crew and replace it immediately. He told us it would take about 2 or 3 hours to complete. He returned with his crew and everything he needed to do the job. In 2 hours we had power! He replaced the old 150 panel with a 200 panel and he and his men checked all the lights and the water pressure to make sure everything was good. He checked the line outside and because we still had a little flickering of the lights he suggested we contact National Grid in the morning and have them check the line at the pole as that may have been the reason for the failure. In the morning I did contact National Grid and they sent Someone out. He found there was a problem and he was able to replace a line. Thanks to Scott and the two men who came out and replaced the panel in the dark, we were Also able to have a problem with our outside line repaired. I am so thankful to him and National Grid for helping to keep us safe from an electrical issue that could have been so much worse. Also thank you for being so reasonable with your pricing."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Westerly, signs that electrical work may need attention include visible corrosion on outlets or panels, water stains near electrical components, or damaged outdoor fixtures. Frequent breaker trips, flickering lights during storms, or outlets that feel warm are warning signs. If your home uses extension cords as permanent solutions or lacks GFCI protection, it’s wise to have a professional assess your wiring and electrical panel for safety.

Helpful?

In Westerly’s coastal environment, intermittent power, burning smells, or warm outlets can quickly escalate due to humidity and salt exposure. Flickering lights during storms or repeated GFCI trips may indicate moisture intrusion or deteriorating wiring. Even a single malfunctioning outlet in an older home can signal broader electrical panel or circuit issues. Address these problems promptly to prevent more extensive repairs and maintain household safety.

Helpful?

Electrical systems in Westerly need regular care due to the coastal climate. Schedule annual inspections to catch corrosion early, test GFCI outlets monthly, and clean salt deposits from outdoor fixtures every six months. Inspect weatherproof seals on exterior outlets each quarter, and check your electrical panel for rust or corrosion yearly. After severe storms or before heavy appliance use, perform extra checks to ensure everything remains safe and functional.

Helpful?

Many homes in Westerly present unique challenges for electrical work, such as stone foundations, horsehair plaster walls, or limited space in the electrical panel. Elevated homes and crawl spaces, common in this coastal area, can restrict access for new wiring. If your property is historic or features complex layouts, expect more planning and specialized techniques to ensure safe and effective electrical upgrades.

Helpful?

In Westerly, making electrical projects safer for families means installing tamper-resistant outlets and arc fault circuit interrupters (AFCIs) to reduce shock and fire risks. Use weatherproof covers on all outdoor outlets to protect against salt air and curious pets. For older homes in Westerly, check that outlets are properly grounded and add pet-proof outlet covers, especially if you have outdoor electrical panels or invisible fencing.
