"In the early Spring of 2022 we hired Millspaugh to build a 10X24 feet porch over a deck. They gave us a bid which seemed reasonable, and began work shortly thereafter. We were very pleased with all aspects of their work. They were prompt, exactly on budget, on schedule, and very nice people with whom to deal. We highly recommend their services! Sincerely, Dr. J. "Ricardo is very knowledgeable about plant maintenance. He and Leon removed the roots of the few blackberry plants that decided to take up residence in my yard, Ricardo did from scratch my boxwood that’s had been growing, into perfect topiary pieces of art. I said I wanted a snowman, a basketball and a football. He did exactly what I wanted. The only casualty was a slice in my lightweight wire fence from the metal blade on the weed eater while doing my country fence line."

"We needed a new vinyl click lock floor installed throughout our house. Adam and Jack were wonderful. It was a pretty big job, and they did amazing work. Very conscientious about doing a great job, timely and cleaned up every night, as we were living in the house while they worked. Can’t recommend them enough, 5 stars ⭐️ Plus !"

"Highly recommend Marshall! Prompt and professional client service as well as quality work. He did an incredible job on our Christmas light installation outside and did it at a righteous price. We booked Marshall to come back in January to take down the lights as well as clean out the gutters. We're so happy to have someone like Marshall we can count on for all future work like this at our home. Looking forward to hiring again!"

Holiday Decorating questions, answered by experts

The most likely cause of accidentally flashing lights is that a regular bulb has been replaced with a flash bulb by accident. If that’s not the case, you should look for a bulb on the strand that is not quite seated properly and will lose its connection when it’s touched or moved.

Hiring a professional for holiday decorating, especially for hanging lights, is often well worth the investment for several reasons. A key benefit is safety; if you are physically unable to hang lights due to injury, or if your home has multiple stories or other high places that pose a safety hazard, a professional can handle the job securely. They also have the expertise to assess your electrical system to ensure it can handle the load. Hiring a pro is also a great option for homeowners who lack the time or capability to decorate. Professionals can create a stylish, chic, and upscale look that will wow your guests, and they may even save you money on decor. Finally, many holiday lighting experts include maintenance and repairs as part of their rates, ensuring your display looks great throughout the season without any extra effort on your part.

Yes, tackling blown fuses and broken light bulbs is definitely safe. Fixing the wiring on a strand of Christmas lights isn’t a good idea, though, because of the danger of shock and fire. However, if you don’t feel comfortable working with any type of electricity, consider hiring a professional Christmas light installer to manage the job safely and efficiently.

Aside from a professional light installation company, there are a few other pros who may be able to help you hang Christmas lights. Along with specialty holiday decorators, a handyperson near you can also hang Christmas lights (and can fix that pesky drippy sink while they’re at it). Either way, not all of these pros will offer the service, so be sure to call ahead and get multiple quotes before you hire.

You can take a few steps to prolong the life of your holiday lights. Make sure to replace burnt-out bulbs as quickly as possible to avoid overloading the rest of the circuit and knocking out more lights. Before packing them up each year, plug each strand into the wall to confirm everything is still working. Wrap the lights carefully back into their original packaging or something similar—winding a strand tightly together or leaving it to hang loose in a storage bin can lead to frayed or damaged wiring.
