"I'm sorry this homeowner is allowed to put up a review that is both inaccurate and unjustified. Against The homeowners disapproval he was ordered by a judge to remove all his remarks to all online review boards and ordered him to sign a letter stating the Judges order for the homeowner to remove and dismiss all actions against Signature Kitchen & Design. The judge dismissed the case and Angie's list should do so as well. As it is not accurate or complete in all the work we did do on the project or the losses we sustained. If you wish a copy of the order to be emailed please do not hesitate to email us your request. We are open and honest in all of our business dealings and never want to hide anything from potential customers. The homeowners letters of dismissal also included the CCB and the BBB which he also has erroneous claims submitted to. Both companies have received the homeowners dismissal of the case and have removed his remarks. However the claim still remains. Unfortunately, the claims although closed and dismissed still lowers our overall online ratings which is very upsetting. Our last resort is to go to court, as in this case we needed the Judge to step in and try and correct the homeowners wrongful actions. MY HOPE IS THAT THE PUBLIC sees this very negative review and realizes that for the thousands of very happy clients it seems that more often than not those that speak up are the negative ones, so please let us email you a huge list of referrals, some of whom will let you visit their project, for proof of quality and expertise. Again just to reiterate our first inclination and reaction is not to go to court or be hasty or harsh in dealing with clients that result in any form of disagreement. We have worked for many different personality types, always striving to please all people, all walks of life, never making anyone feel like they don't suit us, rather "what can we do for you " type of attitude. Thank you for your time."
It did not go so well.
Signature Kitchen and Design way overbook themselves with projects and the customers suffer. I was promised on the contract that it would be completed in 8-10+ weeks. It took 22 weeks! There were weeks that no one showed up to work or they worked for a couple of hours. The electrician got sick after about the 16th week which further delayed the project. Had the timeline been close to what was projected then the illness would not have been an issue. I had to beg to get my kitchen in usable condition so I could cook a Thanksgiving dinner. I never dreamed at the beginning of this process that it would not be finished by Thanksgiving. Even then it took until just before Christmas to get finished.
Ericka, is the PR person and she does the design and the bidding. Adam, Ericka’s husband, is the contractor. I made a recommendation to them that Adam take a more active role in the bidding. During the consultation, Erika talked about lots of different amenities that I believed were part of the bid. The contract was vague and I stupidly believed that since they are the contractors they know what they are doing. The communication between Ericka and Adam was not great in terms of what was being included and what was extra. Adam thought many things were extra and I was under the impression they were part of the contract. In addition, at the beginning of the project we had expanded the location of the kitchen into another room and an arbitrary price was added to the original kitchen remodel contract. That arbitrary price was way under bid and it ended up costing me an additional $27K more once the construction was finished. I was made aware of a couple of extra charges but I had no idea it would be so much. Should you decide to use this contractor, get a detailed contract!
Communication with Ericka was frustrating for me. I sent an email to her before the project started about placing the microwave in the island and it didn’t happen. I had to tell her 3 times what quartz I wanted on the island. The flooring didn’t get ordered by Ericka after we picked it out and Adam had to do that. I liked 2 different sinks and faucets when we were picking out the plumbing fixtures. I asked Ericka to tell me the price difference and then I would decide. She wrote down the 2 sinks and faucets but never got back to me on the prices and nothing got ordered until later when it was time to install them and Adam asked which one I wanted. She also wrote down the board that the cabinet pulls were on, but not the actual pulls that were chosen. Ericka promised me that at the end they would go over everything with a fine tooth comb to make sure it’s right and that never happened. I had to contact Adam to get things fixed.
One of their carpenters is good, the other 2 are just okay (some stuff had to be fixed because not done right the 1st time). The subcontractors were fine with the exception of the plasterers who had to come back and redo some areas that were not done correctly.
I like my kitchen now that is finished, but it cost me way more than I had planned on. I would not recommend using this company.
"We'd like to respond in a positive manner as we loved the outcome of the job and the satisfaction of the homeowner is very important to us. As with any story, there is always two sides. Let's start by saying the extra amount added to the contract was for items the homeowner added, changed or not apart of the job. At the beginning of the job we provided a thirteen page itemized cost breakdown that was very detailed. Some clients may not understand all the categories, but we go over every line before it is signed. If any questions come up, we explain it. Some homeowners have very little construction experience as was the case on this job site. Some items must have not made sense to her. Such as, the contract stated that she was to provide all materials and labor for the painting category. She asked us to let her children do that for her. So we put zero on the contract for this. However, during construction she said she couldn't do that, and we would be doing it. Of course we have to add on for this, we could not just do it for free. And, this is only one of many items that went this way. As a huge amount of items got added to the job after we started, the timeline needed to be adjusted also. Most homeowners realize this but apparently she did not get this and we wish we could have been able to add so much work to the job for the same amount of time and money. But it's not reasonable. As far as the blame game of who should have ordered what items and when, we have all that internally organized as to who and when each item is ordered by and when. Not sure why this was of concern, as everything was taken care of. Our double checking with the homeowner about her selections came from the homeowner not being able to make up her mind, and changing it back and forth multiple times, thus giving us cause for concern and reconfirming she hadn't changed her mind. This was not because we didn't know. I really think this was us just trying to do the right thing and giving her plenty of room to make any changes etc. We have emails that state this very clearly. Here is a partial list of items she added to the kitchen remodel after the contract was signed: 1: Added a huge living room and family room of hardwood 2: dining room cabinets, including counters backsplash and undercab lighting 3: solid cherry pantry doors 4: added recessed lights to family room, 5: new siding on the outside of house in areas 6: removed a full fireplace and corrected the hole in the family room 7: added painting to the entire project (was supposed to by done by the homeowner) 8: all the demolition was originally supposed to be done by the homeowner and that got added on to the project. Included a full kitchen of tile floors and counters We would be happy to clarify any other questions or concerns you may have. We have completed 1000's of kitchens and bathrooms and every once in a while we have someone like this. End result is the kitchen is a wow kitchen. We would be happy to take you through an extensive list of references."
Our contractor Adam and his fabulous crew made our vision into something real. Adam visited the site often and was always reachable by phone or text. He was easy to talk with, always open to changes I would come up with, and did an excellent job at staying on top of the many different things going on at our house. He also had some great ideas along the way that added some very nice touches to the project. If there were problems or mistakes made along the way, he was always fair and quick to fix things.
One of the reasons we chose Signature Kitchen and Bath was that they were a small and personable company. The finish carpenter who came today was the same one who came yesterday. We knew all the workers on a first-name basis. Adams?s subs not only did their jobs well, but were professional, friendly, and respectful. I was comfortable with them in my house.
I am happy with the work Ericka and Adam did for us - from the initial design to the finished addition. They gave our family something we have dreamed of for years. They built it well, they built it beautifully, and they made the process as painless as possible. I highly recommend them and will use them again for future remodeling projects.
"[Member name removed] have been a delight to work with. With the modifications to their home, I'm sure the comfort, usefulness and resale value that has been added to their home will stick with them for years. We are very thankful for the privilege of bringing about this change for the [member name removed]."
"This member was a delight to work with! She was easy to convey ideas with and always ready and willing to meet with the various crew members. We really enjoyed seeing the end result and transformation of her home. As with any remodel, there are unknown issues that may come up, and this member respected our wish to bring her home up to code and create a very functional yet beautiful kitchen, pantry and laundry room. I would not hesitate to work with this member again on any future home remodels she may have."
Since the remodel, I have has back surgery and truly appreciate the shower bench and the grab bars. We also have a grab bar by the comfort height toilet which has been a lifesaver. I would have hated to go through my recovery and rehab in our old bathroom with the low toilet and no grab bars. Those extra touches have made all the difference for me.
One of our shower head fell on the tile floor and broke several months after the project was completed. Adam picked up a new shower head and came out and installed it for us, only charging the cost of the shower head.
We are pleased with our new master bath and still show it off to visitors. We think this was one of the best investments we ever made.
Ericka helped out with much of the purchasing, taking me shopping to plumbing stores, granite stores, flooring stores, appliance shops, etc. I feel like she helped me understand products and steered me to a better quality kitchen than I would have had otherwise and not necessarily at a higher cost.
After the design process was finished, Adam came on board with his crew. Adam was easy to work with and honest in his appraisal of what could or could not be realistically done within money limitations. He's a problem solver and saved the day several times, because he could see a solution where his crew or I could not. I feel like we got quality work from his experienced crew and that they were timely, polite, honest, and as professional as could be. Any concerns that I had got addressed quickly and Adam was always willing to sit down and discuss the project at any time. Our remodel was not an easy one, with support beams being removed, new basement foundation support being poured, changes on my part requested, etc., Adam was entirely capable of handling everything and he has great taste! I feel he directed me to some changes that I am ever so glad we made!
My husband and I have been on some home tours in the months since our project was completed and after each one we look at each other and say "Boy, are we glad we hired Adam and Ericka!". The inside of our house is fantastic now and the kitchen is so extremely functional as well as beautiful. We appreciate Adam and Ericka's work more and more as time goes on and we hope to use them again as we start work on the outside of the house.
