"After failing to fix the furnace correctly the first time, the attempt to have them come and actually do the job they were supposed to do has been a disaster. We submitted a request through the AHS warranty, and gave them a (707) area code number, which they were able to to call to schedule the service. I was then called by a very friendly woman who asked me which phone number they should call day-of service. I gave her my (614) number. We had a window from 1pm-5pm. Day-of I check my email and see that the tech is on his way at 11:15am, and would arrive at 12:15am. Just after 11:30, I see that the tech is "on the job." I texted him and said I was on my way. Rather than stay, he chose to "leave town" and leave us without a furnace...for an entire weekend. The woman answering the phones LIED saying the only number they had was (613) area code--yet the day before they called our (707) number and then specifically asked me for my (614) number. She hung up on me twice, lied repeatedly, and made no effort to solve the problem, even though the fault was entirely ON THEIR END."

"David was great. We determined the source of the water leak was a seam at the back of my Bradford and White water heater (1 of 2). After discussing options to replace both water heaters and choosing a couple of add-ons (electric anode rods and a membership) we questioned whether or not the water heaters were still under warranty. David determined they are under warranty, so all previous decisions were revisited. David didn’t flinch and quickly determined how we could move forward, and provided me with a new quote (labor) and timing for the replacement. Regular inspections, loop flushing, and checking heat exchangers help extend system lifespan.

An evaporator or swamp cooler is a common alternative for small spaces. These coolers blow moist air into a space to help cool it down. They are more affordable than misters and use much less water. However, coolers will not have the same cooling effect as misters, cannot help plants survive the heat, and only reach a small area.

If a geothermal heat pump is installed correctly, then you shouldn’t have to worry about having a backup heat source such as a furnace or oil boiler. However, there are geothermal systems installed that include a backup in case the heat pump fails due to extreme cold. This is simply a backup heat pump you’ll likely never need and not an alternative heat source.

Your HVAC manufacturer will give you instructions on how often you should service your system. Have your unit professionally serviced at least once a year when in doubt. 

Heat pump systems are different because they provide heating and cooling solutions for your home. In this case, you should have it serviced at least twice a year.

It’s a better use of energy (and your money) NOT to run an ERV system all the time. Most experts recommend that you cycle your ERV system on and off throughout the year. However, the recommended advice could change based on your climate, the number of people in your home, the size and style of your home, and your heating and cooling system.
