"I am writing to express dissatisfaction with our $27,000 furnace and A/C replacement from Logan Services. Our sales rep, Cameron Young, misled us with a "Bait and Switch" tactic. He promoted a free accessory with the furnace purchase, offering options like a Whole House Humidifier, which we discussed specifically for our downstairs unit. After installation, we found that the humidifier was missing and instead received an April Aire Merv-11 filter, which was never mentioned. When we contacted Cameron, he claimed we misunderstood and refused to resolve the issue without extra charges. Customer service was unaware of the filter and kept confusing it with the humidifier. Despite escalating the issue to management, they sided with Cameron and refused to honor the promotion. Logan Services’ failure to resolve the issue and their unprofessional handling have led us to decide we will not do business with them again."

But these eight words are more than just a slogan at CARE Heating and Cooling. They are our motto and the basis of our business philosophy, and the way we want to be remembered by you at the end of the day. From the beginning I wanted CARE be a different kind of company. After spending many years working for other heating and cooling companies, I became alarmed by the trends I was seeing in the residential heating and cooling industry. “Increase sales”, “raise your prices” and “make every employee a sales person” became the operating statements of many companies, leading to the biggest fraud of all: paying service technicians to sell replacement furnaces and air conditioners. In the 1980s a major manufacturer began to promote to its dealers a unique sales technique – have service technicians sell replacements. The rationale was that a service technician had the inherent trust of the consumer. If a repair was needed a service technician had ability to take advantage of that trust and offer to install a replacement system. This provided an immediate solution to an immediate problem that would lock out any competition, result in a much higher than normal selling price and much higher profits. Because companies make more money, a lot more in fact, selling you a new system rather than fixing the one you own this approach was widely adopted over the next couple of decades. To generate even more sales and profits many companies today apply a lot of pressure to service technicians to sell even more. Several local companies’ guidelines state specifically that a consumer is to be advised to replace their furnace if a repair, even a minor one, is needed whenever a furnace or air conditioner is over 10 years old. They set goals for their service technicians to turn at least 1 in 10 service calls into sales leads and pay them a commission when a unit is sold. Service technicians can also get caught up in the quest for more money, with some diagnosing problems that may not actually exist just to earn a commission. This is how “cat toys in furnaces” and “chipmunks with attitudes and power drills” became major problems. So what makes CARE Heating and Cooling different? It is my philosophy that we are in business not only to get new customers, but more importantly to keep them. Never will anyone in the service department profit by recommending to a consumer to replace their furnace or air conditioner. Not only do we offer free second opinions for a diagnosis of a bad compressor or heat exchanger, we will often second opinion ourselves when condemning equipment to be sure we have not made a mistake. "Based on advertised claims, called them to fix an AC cycling problem. Tech told me that furnace was "old" and I should replace it, and then gave me a quote on replacing the furnace motor. Neither of these issues was the problem and this type of advice was exactly what I was trying to avoid. (I own seven properties and need someone who can actually "fix" an issue, not try to upcharge me). I called them several times to protest their charge of a housecall fee and one hour labor, since they did nothing to identify or fix the problem. Told them I didn't think I should pay the excessive charge but they already had my credit card number and wouldn't cancel or adjust the charge until I was called by someone. Was told some guy named Alex would call me about it, but he never calls, even though I have called their office at least 5 times to resolve the issue. Don't use these guys, there are much better providers around."

He spoke and dressed very professionally and didn't try to upcharge me for services that were unneeded. I feel like he is someone who I can trust and spent his time well working the entire time he was here. He seemed very knowledgeable about the issue and how to tackle it. I'm worried about other companies who just try to sell a new unit rather than fixing them. I'm glad to say that he didn't try to sell a new unit but to repair the one we had. "After failing to fix the furnace correctly the first time, the attempt to have them come and actually do the job they were supposed to do has been a disaster. We submitted a request through the AHS warranty, and gave them a (707) area code number, which they were able to to call to schedule the service. I was then called by a very friendly woman who asked me which phone number they should call day-of service. I gave her my (614) number. We had a window from 1pm-5pm. Day-of I check my email and see that the tech is on his way at 11:15am, and would arrive at 12:15am. Just after 11:30, I see that the tech is "on the job." I texted him and said I was on my way. Rather than stay, he chose to "leave town" and leave us without a furnace...for an entire weekend. The woman answering the phones LIED saying the only number they had was (613) area code--yet the day before they called our (707) number and then specifically asked me for my (614) number. She hung up on me twice, lied repeatedly, and made no effort to solve the problem, even though the fault was entirely ON THEIR END."
